Maynard Meserve, Dave Robbins and I enjoyed a Saturday at the Alfred
Shelter giving rides for donations for their annual Apple Fest. Dave White
represented the club on Sunday. A report of monies raised for the Shelter
will be presented at our monthly meeting this Saturday.
Thirteen cars, twenty two members and two dogs turned out for our gathering at Brackett’s Apple Orchard in Limington on September 27th. Beautiful
weather and a gorgeous location. Everyone left with a bag of apples of their
choice that they got to pick themselves. Thanks Dave and Jody White!
Our regular monthly meeting on the 11th will include a presentation on
“How to Test a Condenser”, followed by lunch at a local restaurant yet to be
determined. Hope to see you there!

President, Roland “Doc” Hannaford called the meeting to order at 9:20 a.m.,
Twenty four members and one guest present. President Hannaford welcomed Scott and Debbie Lansberry new
members and gust John Kelly.
Secretary Report:
Minutes of the August meeting were accepted and stand approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
The August treasurer’s report was filed for audit. Susan Nourse asked if we have had applications for the Scholarship. Wayne Machado said Dan Keene’s nephew would receive one next year. There have been two other applications submitted.
Old Business:

Thank you—Pam Trafton and Wayne Machado for providing refreshments today.
•
Christmas Party: Plans continue to be made. Dick Bibber suggested the function room in Gray, at Spring
Meadows Golf Course. Possibly Back Street Grills new location in Sanford.
•
Valerie Ward reported that the Union Station Tour was a great success and excellent turnout.
•
Willowbrook Tour also a success. Our President was interviewed by a reporter from the Sanford Tribune.
•
York County Shelter’s Apple Fest: Members gave rides again this year. Donations were given to the shelter.
New Business:
•
September 27; Brackett Orchard Apple Picking Tour, Limington, ME 10AM, Dave White tour director.
•
Dave Robbins asked if members would consider meeting next year at the Trolley Museum. They would be
willing to open at 9AM.
•
The Vermont tour has been cancelled by the Wrights. The distance for one night was too great.
•
Bob Wright suggested the club purchase a storage unit. Dave White will check with the town to see if they
would allow us space to keep it at the Town Hall.
•
Bob Wright recommended the club sells tickets for a raffle instead of the monthly 50/50. Wayne Machado
said the entire amount would go to the Scholarship instead of sharing with the general fund. This will be revisited in near future.
Today’s tour is to Pulpit Rock Tower in Rye, NH Frank Kennedy made the arrangements.
Next months refreshments will be provided by Bev Wheeler and Jan Wright.
Frank Brown won the 50/50 raffle, he donated $38.00 to establish a lending library of books and tools.

For Sale: Model A engine block, June 1928 #A218030. The block includes the head,
valve cover, oil pan and front pulley. It does not have the flywheel, front bell housing,
oil fill tube, upper water outlet, side water inlet or dip stick. There are no visible
cracks, the engine is clean where cracks typically occur. The engine has green paint
on it and it can be turned easily. There is very little corrosion. The studs for water

After the discussion at the last meeting, Susan Nourse took it upon herself to provide us
some good information. Thank you Susan.
Contemporary plates. An owner of an antique auto, horseless carriage, street rod or antique motorcycle may use registration plates that were issued in the same year the antique vehicle was manufactured, as long as the motor vehicle: A. Is over 25 years old; B.
Is registered as an antique vehicle; and C. Carries a valid antique motor vehicle registration certificate and plates. Display of contemporary plates. Contemporary registration plates must have
matching plate numbers, be affixed to both the front and rear and conspicuously bear the year of
manufacture.
Related to the seatbelt question, the law applies to those vehicles that are required to
have them. If the vehicle was not manufactured with seatbelts, then the requirement to
use seatbelts is null. See below. I added the underlining. This applies to children regardless of their weight or age. I copied the following directly from the statute. When a
child who weighs less than 40 pounds is being transported in a motor vehicle that is required by the United States Department of Transportation to be equipped with safety
seat belts, the operator must have the child properly secured in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions in a child safety seat.
Low-speed vehicles. The Secretary of State may issue a registration for a low-speed vehicle upon
application and payment of an annual fee of $25. The registrant must provide a certificate of title
required by section 651, proof of financial responsibility required by section 1601 and evidence of
payment of the excise tax required by Title 36, section 1482. A low-speed vehicle registered under this section is issued a registration plate with the word "low-speed" instead of "Vacationland."
Operation of low-speed vehicles A person operating a low-speed vehicle on a public way shall
comply with the provisions of this chapter as they apply to the operator of an automobile and with
this section. 1. License required. A person operating a low-speed vehicle must possess a valid
Class A, Class B or Class C driver's license pursuant to section 1252. 2. Road restrictions. A lowspeed vehicle may be operated only on a road or street where the posted speed limit is 35 miles
per hour or less. A low-speed vehicle may cross, at an intersection, a road or street with a posted
speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour. The department may prohibit the operation of a lowspeed vehicle on any highway or segment of highway under its jurisdiction if it determines that
the prohibition is necessary in the interest of public safety. A municipality may prohibit the operation of a low-speed vehicle on any road under its jurisdiction if it determines that the prohibition
is necessary in the interest of public safety.
