The Avermetrics™ Test and Measurement System
The Avermetrics™ Test and Measurement System has been engineered from the ground up for production line testing of electronic products, subassemblies, boards, and components. It was designed by an engineering team with extensive product development and testing experience, with performance and the total cost of testing as clear design criteria. mands via Telnet. The XOS operating system interprets these commands, routes them to the proper module or modules, collects the results, and sends them back to the host computer in an easy-to-parse XML format. Literally any programming language and operating system that can open a networking socket will support XOS and this system. This system, and the currently available range of plugin modules, offers a wide range of test capabilities, from professional, semi-professional, and consumer audio product testing, to basic board level tests, to process control, and more. New modules to add new tests are being added to the library every day. Software Support Modular System This is a modular system using a custom 1U rack designed to hold up to 4 modules. The system is highly scalable: Racks may be interconnected using the AVERLINK™ connectors on the back of each rack unit; up to 64 rack units holding up to 254 modules can be connected in a single system. Internally, each module has an array of processors, and the system is organized as a large, interconnected two-dimensional array of these processors in a distributed intelligence configuration. Because each module is intelligent it does its own analysis, so tests across multiple modules occur in parallel, significantly reducing testing time. Communication XOS™ is an XML-based operating system that is at the core of the test system. To define tests or do other operations, a host computer sends simple XML com- Avermetrics supplies documentation, C++ classes that handle all aspects of communication with the system and parsing of XML commands and results, and example applications (with complete source code) to get you started. One of those example applications, AverTest, provides full-featured test execution using simple XML test and limit definition files so you can start testing on the production line right away. Future Proof The system supports a complete Device Firmware Update capability so new features and updated firmware can be programmed into existing systems in the field, with no downtime. Adding new tests and more channels is as simple as plugging new modules and racks into an existing system. Your investment in testing never goes obsolete. Modules Currently, there are six different modules available to test audio and analog signals, and to control process operation and interact with external sensors and digital signals. More information and pricing for each of these modules is below. 1116 Colorado Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90041 T: (323) 230-0515 | F: (323) 704-3316 [email protected] | www.avermetrics.com Rev. B P/N 770-00004 9140 1U Rack Unit 4021 Analog Audio Input Module Every system has at least one 9140 Rack unit. Up to 64 rack units may be interconnected to create large, unified test systems for multi-channel audio and diverse testing requirements. Each rack accepts four modules. Any number of 4021 Input modules may be installed in a given system. This module provides two high-performance audio inputs, supporting tests over the entire audio spectrum and a wide range of signal levels. Each channel operates simultaneously and independently, doubling effective throughput compared to conventional audio test systems. Multiple modules in a system all operate in parallel, greatly reducing test time for multi-channel measurements when compared to switched, repetitive testing. Two AVERLINK ports (A and B) are supplied on the back panel. Interconnect racks by connecting A to B or B to A using the supplied Cat5 cables. (See the Hardware Installation manual for more information on interconnections between racks.) This module provides communication between the system and host computer, and performs test scheduling and results formatting tasks during test execution. Communication with the module is done via Telnet, and an embedded web server provides access to configuration settings and status information. A white front panel LED indicates system activity and status. Signal inputs are via balanced XLR connectors. Singleended signals are supported by grounding the cold input (pin 3) to ground (pin 1) and driving the hot input (pin 2) relative to ground. Ground lift is also selectable for completely floating balanced inputs. Currently available native tests are: FFT (32 to 65536 points), Level, DR, SNR, THD+N. This module provides two high-performance audio outputs, providing audio stimulus signals over the entire audio spectrum and at a wide range of signal levels. Each output may be set to different frequencies and/or levels. Three very low distortion oscillators are available for generating complex stimulus signals and may be assigned in any combination to either or both outputs. Rack units require that all four slots be filled with modules to ensure proper internal communication and signal integrity. For rack units with fewer than four modules to meet this requirement each unused slot is filled with a filler module, which provides needed signal routing and termination. Because the inputs and outputs are all completely isolated from the system ground and internal signals, this module is perfect for controlling processes in noisy environments or adjusting sensitive analog signals internal to test devices. The eight opto-isolated inputs can be used to sense the state of external signals, such as proximity switches, out of limit sensors (overtemp, overvoltage, etc.), switch closures, test status, and other binary events. Similarly, the eight reed relay outputs can be used to close circuits during board-level tests, actuate motors, valves, or other process control components, light annunciators, etc. These are very high reliability relays; they are rated at 109 cycles at low signal levels, and can handle up to 10W. This supply can provide power for small external sensors and other test-fixture circuits, and in some situations may simplify external connections to the system. This isolated power supply provides up to 100ma of current across any of the available 12V, 5V, and 3.3V outputs. All outputs are short-circuit protected and current limited. Power is available on both the input and output connectors. Cost 3102 Isolated I/O Module $900 3103 Digital I/O Module This module provides eight opto-isolated inputs and 32 digital voltage level outputs, along with a dual bidirectional SPI control port. This module is ideal for control of external test sets, test devices, and manufacturing processes. The opto-isolated inputs are identical to those on the 3102 Isolated I/O module. No power is supplied by this module to drive external circuitry, other than what is available directly from the digital outputs. The outputs are selectable (in 8-bit banks) between 3.3V and 5V logic levels. These are high-current outputs and can source or sink up to 12ma each. The SPI connector has MISO, MOSI, SCK, and two CS signals and can support two bidirectional SPI ports for control and initialization of test devices and/or test sets. These signals are independent of the 32 digital I/O outputs and opto-isolated inputs. Cost 3103 Digital I/O Module $750 6020 Slew Rate Measurement Module This module performs direct slew-rate measurements of digital and analog test devices. Its two pairs of inputs and outputs are fully differential and independent, and can be used in either differential mode or single-ended mode, depending on requirements. When not actively measuring slew rate, this module passes through all input and output signals to a second set of outputs and inputs. These can be used to interconnect a 6020 module with a 4021 Input module and 4121 Generator module so that only a single connection to a test device is required to make both analog audio and slew rate measurements. These signals are passed through using reed relays, so all connections are completely galvanic, with no active devices in the signal path when the 6020 module is not active. Slew rate is measured by driving the outputs between any two programmable voltages and measuring the elapsed time between two programmable threshold voltages on the inputs. This scheme accommodates devices exhibiting gain or loss, over a wide range of possible input and output voltages.
