HAWAIIAN LUAU PARTY
Date: Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Senior Center
Time: 11:30 a.m.—2:30 p.m.
Cost: $12.00 per person
All are invited to don your tropical attire and join us for a festive summer luau.
Ticket price includes: lunch (Hawaiian chicken with rice, tropical salad, ambrosia
salad, rolls, beverages, and dessert), entertainment, luau themed party games with
prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets are on sale now! Tickets can be purchased at the
Main Office until Tuesday, July 22nd or until filled. Transportation to this event will
be provided by S.M.A.R.T. Call the Senior Office to set up a ride .
DAY CAMP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Calling all seniors...We need your help again with the Summer Day Camp Program.
This time we have two dates available: Thursday, July 10th and Thursday, July 17th from
10:00 a.m.—11:30 a.m. On both days, we will be playing Michigan Jingo for awesome
prizes that were made in Michigan. If you would like to volunteer for this fun activity,
please sign up in the Senior Office.
RECREATIONAL AUTHORITY SHUT DOWN
The Recreational Authority of Roseville and Eastpointe will be going on shut down during
the last two weeks of August, for cleaning and maintenance. The building will be closed at
the end of business hours on Friday, August 15th, and will re-open on Tuesday, September
2nd at 8:30 a.m. Please mark your calendars, as there will be no activities scheduled during
this time. Also, in conjunction with the shut down, there will be no van service
available the week of August 25th—29th.

SIZZLIN’ SUMMER NIGHT
Tuesday, July 15th from 6:00 p.m.—9:30 p.m.
All are welcome to join us for the Recreational Authority’s First Annual Sizzlin’ Summer
Night on Tuesday, July 15th from 6:00 p.m.—9:30 p.m. at John F. Kennedy Park (24517
Schroeder, Eastpointe). We are so grateful to our community for supporting us all year
round, that we want to throw a party and celebrate with the people who make all that we do
possible! There will be an Amateur BBQ Cook Off (Sponsored By: Belledine’s Barbecue
Sauce), Vendor Show & Basket Raffle, Park*It Movie in the Park (Cloudy with a Chance of
Meatballs), Music (The George Brothers Band), Face Painting, Moonwalk, Kona Ice, Skate
Park Demonstrations (By The Pigeon Skate Shop Team of Eastpointe), NAAMA Karate
Demonstrations, Zumba Fitness Demonstrations, Pickleball Demonstrations,
Water Balloon Toss, Kickball, Scavenger Hunt, Petting Farm, and Dunk Tank! So mark
your calendar, bring your family and friends, and join us for a fun summer evening!
BARGAIN HUNTERS PARADISE
If you love garage sales and flea markets, then mark your calendars and plan to join us for
our Annual “Bargain Hunters Paradise”. This huge sale takes place on Saturday, August
16th from 9:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m. right here in the parking lot of the Recreational Authority
(18185 Sycamore). You will find kitchen/household items, tools, toys/games, collectibles,
clothes, books, and much more. All items will be priced to sell! In case of rain, the event
will be held indoors. If you would like to have a booth at the sale, you may purchase your
space at the Main Office. The cost is $15.00 for a parking space.
EASTPOINTE FARMERS MARKET
The Eastpointe Farmers Market will be open every Saturday through
September 27th, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The market is located at
the corner of 9 Mile and Gratiot in the East Brooke Commons parking lot.
Transportation is available for $1.00 for Eastpointe and Roseville seniors,
with shopping from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Call (586) 445-5085 to
schedule a pick-up. First ride is FREE! Please note: the market will
not be open on August 30, and September 20.
BUILDING EXPANSION NEWS
Our plans for the new building expansion are soon to become a reality. So that means we
will embark upon a transition period here at the Recreational Authority Center. Some
programs will have to be moved to different rooms and other programs will be cancelled until
further notice. The expansion will take place in phases and we will do our best to keep you
posted on the progress. Thank-you for your patience with us, and let’s keep our eyes on the
prize, as the new addition will be a wonderful asset to senior citizen programs and services.
VETERANS SERVICES
The process of finding, applying for, receiving, and maintaining veterans benefits can be
confusing and frustrating. The goal of the Veterans Services Department is to provide
outstanding service to the veterans and their families who reside in Macomb County.
John, our Advocate, will be available to assist those with questions on
Wednesday, July 2nd and Wednesday, July 16th from 9:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m.
Please call the Senior Office if you would like to set up an appointment.
BLOOD PRESSURE TESTING
On Monday, July 28th from 10:45 a.m.—12:00 p.m. a representative from
New Century Home Health Care, Inc. will be here to offer blood pressure testing.
Please join us in the lobby for this FREE service. New Century can help you if you are
homebound, in need of the skilled services of a nurse or therapist, recently discharged from a
hospital, nursing home or rehabilitation center, medically unstable or under the care of a
physician. You may qualify for Medicare Nursing Services if any of these pertain to you.

SENIOR VAN TRANSPORTATION
Senior Van Transportation is available Monday—Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The
dispatchers will make reservations for Eastpointe and Roseville residents, on a first come,
first serve basis. Rides must be scheduled in advance. The fee is $1.00 per way. Vans will
travel from 8 Mile to 15 Mile Roads and Jefferson to Hoover. You must be ready for your
ride 15 minutes prior to pick up time. For complete details, please contact the Senior Van
Transportation lines Monday—Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Eastpointe residents should call
(586) 445-5085 and Roseville residents should call (586) 445-5482.
COMPUTERS SIMPLIFIED
K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Seniors)
Our new computer classes are for seniors at all levels of computer capabilities and aptitudes.
Nancy Hartwig has had her own business teaching seniors computers in an extremely basic,
patient manner that lets you leave with knowledge and a new found confidence while on your
computer. Learn basic vocabulary and enjoy simple, clear explanations for terms and
functions that you have heard for years, but perhaps never really understood. Cut, copy and
paste, creating files and folders, the difference between save and “save as”, where does the
file go when you save it and how to find it, keyboard shortcuts, how to effectively use the
mouse, right click shortcuts, basic window management, email, Internet, and more.
Classes will run for six weeks and the fee is $48.00. The Tuesday class is full and there
are only a few spots still available for the Thursday class, which runs from
10:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m. beginning July 10th..
JUST FOR FUN
“PATRIOTIC” FUN BINGO
Calling all Bingo players!! Even though Independence Day has past, we are still going to
celebrate the “USA”. Our bingo prizes will have a patriotic theme. So put on your red, white,
and blue attire and join us for a fun activity. There is a $1.00 charge for this activity. The extra
funds will be used to offset the cost of the prizes. Mark your calendar for Monday, July 14th at
1:00 p.m. and plan to join us. You could be the lucky winner of one of our many prizes!
BOSTON COOLERS
Wednesday, July 23rd from 12:00 p.m.—1:00 p.m.
Despite the name, the Boston Cooler is a Detroit original. To be properly enjoyed,
Vernor’s is mixed with a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream and served with a
spoon and a straw. Please join us for these luscious treats.
We will be serving them in the lobby for the low price of just $1.00.
ATTENTION CARD PLAYERS
Come and play Rummy on Tuesday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. Also, every Wednesday
alternates between a Pinochle Tournament and an Euchre Tournament. Please join us at
12:30 p.m. to play. The cost is $2.00 per person (includes snacks & prize money).
Tournament play consists of eight games, with a break for coffee and cookies.
SIT ‘N KNIT/CROCHET
If you like to knit or crochet, please join us on Mondays and Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. If you
are just a beginner, we will teach you or if you need a refresher course, we can do that too.
Otherwise, simply work on your own project and enjoy the companionship of our group.
MOVIE DAY
Mark your calendar for the following films: On Monday, July 21st—The Lego Movie
starring Chris Pratt and Will Ferrell and on Monday, July 28th—Labor Day starring Kate
Winslet and Josh Brolin. Showtime is 1:00 p.m. Pop and Popcorn are $1.00.
RED HAT NEWS
All Red Hat “Chili Peppers” are invited to a picnic luncheon here at the Senior Center. This
activity is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 17th at 1:00 p.m. We will have a picnic
luncheon followed by games with prizes. Look for details in your July newsletter.
STROKE SUPPORT GROUP
Our Stroke Club is a support group for stroke survivors and their caregivers. We meet every
Thursday at 12:30 p.m. for fellowship, games, and snacks. Membership is only $1.00 each
week, unless we have a special event planned. New members are always welcome! Members
please mark your calendars for our annual Harsens Island Trip on Thursday, July 31st.
HEALTH & FITNESS
SHAPE—UP
This fun one hour class combines chair fitness along with low impact aerobics. Join us for a
great workout! The class is held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. (new time)
There is no charge for this class.
LINE DANCE
Put on your dancing shoes and join us at the Senior Center every
Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. You will learn repetitive steps to a wide variety of music.
The fee is just $1.00 per one-hour class. All are welcome!
PICKLEBALL
Pickleball is a fun game for all ages. The game itself is a cross between badminton, tennis,
and ping pong and is played on a small court with a paddle. Courts are available in the small
gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m. Court availability is subject to
change based on the building construction.
ZUMBA GOLD
Enjoy the Latin rhythms and dance yourself into fitness with Zumba Gold!
You’ll experience dances such as: meringue, salsa, cumbia, hip-hop, and more.
Class is every Thursday from 10:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m. The drop in fee is $7.00 per class,
or sign up for four classes for $23.00 or eleven classes for $60.00.
Why not give it a try? Your first class is FREE!
FOOT DOCTORS
Mark your calendars as Dr. Farrar will be here on Friday, July 11th
from 9:30 a.m.—11:00 a.m. and Dr. Somers will be here on Wednesday, July 16th
from 1:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m. Please remember to bring a towel with you if you schedule an
appointment with Dr. Somers. The doctors will be here to assist our seniors with their foot
care needs. Appointments should be made in advance at the Senior Office.
REFLEXOLOGY AND MASSAGE
We will not be offering sessions throughout the summer due to the expansion project. Details
on our fall sessions will be listed in the August newsletter.

ANN ARBOR STREET ART FAIR
Date: Wednesday, July 16, 2014
Cost: $20.00
Departs: 9:45 a.m.
Returns: 5:15 p.m.
This Bianco Tour includes round trip bus transportation to opening day of the Ann Arbor
Street Art Fair. Ann Arbor is transformed into an impressive outdoor art festival showcasing
the best in fine art and fine crafts. This award-winning fair features ceramics, painting,
jewelry, sculpture, photography, glass, wood, fiber, and much more! Fairgoers can also enjoy
lively street corner entertainment, artists’ demonstrations, children’s activities, and
the distinctive shops and restaurants of Ann Arbor.

CAESARS WINDSOR CASINO
Date: Thursday, August 7, 2014
Cost: $20.00
Departs: 9:30 a.m.
Returns: 6:45 p.m.
Trip includes round trip transportation, free time to gamble at the Caesars Windsor Casino,
and a ticket to the Bobby Vinton show. Mr. Vinton is one of America’s top concert
performers, audiences will enjoy hearing some of his classic favorites including “Roses are
Red”, “Mr. Lonely”, “My Melody of Love”, and “Blue Velvet”. Please refer to the flyer for
specific details regarding citizenship requirements for crossing the border . You may register
for this trip at the Main Office. Van transportation to the pick up point will be available
from S.M.A.R.T. for $1.00 each way. Call the Senior Office to arrange a ride.
MOTORCITY CASINO
Date: Thursday, October 9, 2014
Cost: $20.00
Departs: 11:45 a.m.
Returns: 6:15 p.m.
Trip includes round trip transportation, free time at the MotorCity Casino, and a players club
card with $30.00 in reward play (added to the club Metro Player’s card) good for any slot
machine. You may register for this trip at the Main Office. Van transportation to the pick up
point will be available from S.M.A.R.T. for $1.00 each way.

MACKINAC ISLAND TRIP SPONSORED BY N.E.R.P.A.
The members of the Northeast Recreation & Park Association invite individuals 50 or better
to “A Grand Experience at the Grand Hotel” on Mackinac Island. This all inclusive trip is
complete with five-course dinners, a wide variety of unique programs and activities such as
golf, tournaments, crafts, dancing, and carriage tours that make your stay
at this world class destination a truly Grand Experience! This trip departs on Monday,
October 20th and returns Thursday, October 23rd. The price varies depending upon the
number of individuals in a room or if bus service is desired. Please call the

MORNING MILE: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:00 a.m. It takes just a half hour to
complete 2 miles and you are energized for the day.
So join us to “Walk Away the Pounds” with the Leslie Sansone DVD.
DINING SENIOR STYLE: The Senior Nutrition Program is located in our Activity Center.
The MCCSA offers warm and delicious lunches which are served
Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. A suggested cost-share donation is $3.00.
Please note: there will be no meals served on Friday, July 4th in observance of the holiday.
CARDS: All are welcome to drop in each and every day to play cards in the Senior Room.
We are always in need of extra players on Tuesdays and Fridays,
especially if you play Euchre. Why not stop by and give it a try?
OPEN COMPUTERS: Five computers with Internet access and a printer are available.
Please note: computers will not be available during classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
BILLIARDS ROOM: Available daily for pool sharks, until construction begins.

PRAYING HANDS: Meets on the first Monday of every month from 8:30 a.m.—2:00 p.m.
HI-STEPS: Meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m.—10:30 a.m.
KEENAGERS: Meets on the third Friday of every month at 12:00 noon.
ROSEVILLE SENIORS CLUB: Meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at
11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 24800 Phlox Avenue, Eastpointe, MI 48021.
