In 2015, a section of Beaconsfield Avenue from 9 Mile to Biscayne Ave. was
reconstructed with 7 inch PCC pavement in the City of Eastpointe. This is a
residential area of the city and required
great coordination and cooperation between the City, its engineer Anderson,
Eckstein & Westrick (AEW), and the
contractors. Reconstructing a residential street can have a profound impact
on each resident. The goal of this project was to complete the work with the
least amount of disruption, allowing the
residents of Eastpointe to continue to
move about their community.
Florence Cement created a proposal to
pave the project full width to minimize
the disruption to the community. The
City of Eastpointe and AEW approved
this proposal with the residents’ needs
being central to the planning process.
Florence teamed up with Chartier to
perform the paving and earthwork.
The construction of the two sections
were managed so that paving could be
continuous from north to south. Due
to project conditions and limitations,
Florence chose to set forms and use a
form riding paver to accommodate the
pavement construction. The pavement
was poured 31 ft wide with integral
curb and gutter. The chosen placement method, and coordination and
cooperation among Florence, AEW,
Chartier, and the City of Eastpointe
helped to make this an efficient and
successful project!
