ST. MARY’S COLLEGE
OCTOBER 2014
MOUNT RECEIVES
NEW $2.8 MILLION
FEDERAL GRANT
The U.S. Department of Education has
selected Mount St. Mary’s to receive a
new, five-year grant worth more than
$2.8 million.
This funding will help the Mount
strengthen our graduate programs, enable
the creation of new graduate degrees
and the updating of existing degrees and
certificates.
It will also allow the College to offer
development opportunities for faculty,
while increasing student access to vital
support services, scholarships and
additional online degree offerings.
The grant award is part of the U.S.
Department of Education’s Promoting
Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for
Hispanic Americans (PPOHA), a Title V
program.
PEP RALLIES KICK OFF
NEW MSMU BRAND
The two campuses celebrated the new
Mount Saint Mary’s University at pep
rallies held Oct. 7-8.
Both pep rallies began with a special
presentation revealing the institution’s
new logo and branding. ASB leaders
pumped up the crowd even more with
a “Who are we? Mount Saint Mary’s!
What are we? Unstoppable!” cheer after
the big reveal. At Chalon, a marching
band from the Mark Keppel High School
in Alhambra led students to the Circle,
where pizza and t-shirts were waiting for
them. Doheny students had their party at
the lawn in front of the Mansion.
The name change takes effect in
January 2015.

L.A. SCULPTOR DEBUTS NEWEST WORKS
AT DRUDIS-BIADA GALLERY
Renowned L.A. sculptor Peter Shelton is
showcasing his newest works until Oct. 25 at
the José Drudis-Biada Art Gallery.
Recognized for his humorous and
sensuous sculptures of grand scale, Shelton
might be best known in Los Angeles for
“sixbeastsandtwomonkeys,” a monumental,
and controversial, sculptural grouping on
Spring Street outside the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters.
Shelton’s new exhibit at the Mount, titled “littleBIG,” includes a mix of pieces in steel,
bronze, mixed media and mylar. And plenty of them require a sense of imagination – as
well as a sense of humor.
