Target Student Tours at the Art institute of Chicago are sponsored by 2 Exhibitions The [Not So] Still Life Puppets! Through November 16 Ryan Education Center Opens December 6 Ryan Education Center The rich still-life tradition comes alive in this experimental gallery installation, where visitors can make their own small scenes with a variety of ordinary and notso-ordinary objects, then capture their creations with a drawing—materials are provided—or a photograph and share them via social media to become part of a digital gallery display. This interactive installation for all ages celebrates the art of puppetry, a form of entertainment used by many cultures throughout history. Following the success of the inaugural The [Not So] Still Life in our playful experimental space, Puppets! lets visitors explore the movement of shadow, hand, and finger puppets and perform for each other on small stages. The installation’s hand and shadow puppets, created by artists and puppeteers from the Chicago area, are based on creatures and characters from the museum’s collection— including James Ensor’s The Temptation of St. Anthony, the centerpiece of Demons: The Temptation of James Ensor. Across the hall in the Family Room, a variety of puppet-making supplies will be available so visitors can create their own unique puppets to use in a performance and take home. The Elizabeth Morse Touch Gallery Ongoing Ryan Education Center It’s all hands on deck in this gallery, where visitors are welcome to touch four bronze and marble sculptures of the human face from different times and places. You’ll be amazed by what your fingers can find out! This exhibition has been funded by the Elizabeth Morse Charitable Trust. 3 November 1 S at u r d ay 2 S u n day 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio 8 S at u r d ay 9 S u n day 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio 1 5 S at u r d ay 1 6 S u n day 10:30–3:00 Diwali Family Festival Day 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio 2 2 S at u r d ay 2 3 S u n day 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio ✓ 11:00-4:00 Teen Studio Workshop 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio 2 7 T H U R S DAY 2 8 F R I DAY 2 9 S at u r d ay 3 0 S u n day Family Room closed 10:30–3:00 Wreathing of the Lions 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio 11:00–2:00 The Artist’s Studio NO PROGR AMS SCHEDULED DURING YOUR VISIT? • Read a picture book, play games, or explore Curious Corner, a computer interactive, in the Family Room. • Pick up a family self–guide in the Ryan Education Center. • Explore the Touch Gallery or visit the Ryan Education Center’s experimental gallery. 4 December key All ages Ages 6–12 ages 3–5 ages 13–19 ages 9 –12 Sign-up programs are marked with a ✓.
