Dear Everyone
HARVEST CELEBRATION:
This was a wonderful event on Monday morning, and we were delighted that over 90 of you were
able to join us. The student council raised £321.04 (and still rising) to send to Save the Children for the Iraq Appeal.
Also, thank you for sending the produce for the Food Bank. It was fantastic to be able to fill the back shelf of the
Church.
HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIAL DIET PROCEDURE:
Following new legislation the providers of our school dinners (Food with Thought) require all children with special
dietary requirements to complete a request form and, in the case of an allergy/intolerance, to submit a medical note
from their child’s GP or dietician to confirm the allergy/intolerance. Food with Thought cannot accept a special diet
request without this medical note. Please ask Mrs Walton or Mrs Addis for the Special Diet Request form at our
reception.
SHARING ASSEMBLY:
It will be Mrs Bardsley’s farewell sharing assembly next Friday, 24th October! (Please note that if you photograph or
film any event in school, you should not upload film or photos to any social media site; for personal use only, please.)
SHOES:
Please make sure your child has both indoor and outdoor shoes. The field is very muddy, and while we have no hard
playground, we do not want all the mud inside school. No crocs or slippers please, and wellington boots are a good
idea!
SESA:
Dear Parents/Carers,
We are holding our second Quiz Night at St Ebbe’s on Friday, November 14. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
Our aggressive yet hilarious quiz-master will be John Sweeney, star of the BBC’s Panorama, a man who has quizzed
President Putin and shouted uncontrollably on national television.
Would you come and take part? We have a brand new trophy for the winning team and other prizes. Last year it was
terrific fun. Ask anyone.
Simply register your team on the sign-up sheets at St Ebbe’s in the weeks beforehand. Entry is £2.50 per head,
payable at the door, with a maximum of eight to a team. We hope to have up to ten teams.
Refreshments, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, will be on sale as well as crisps and nuts etc. But eat supper first.
All proceeds from the quiz will go towards SESA (the Saint Ebbe's School Association). Last year we raised almost
£1000.

AUTUMN CONCERT:
Our autumn concert is on 22nd October at 2 p.m. The orchestra will be playing two pieces, the choir will sing and we
have a few instrumentalists playing solos. All parents are very welcome to join us. Please remind your children to
bring their instruments to school for the concert! We want as many children as possible to be involved, so if your
child has music lessons at home rather than at school, please let us know so that we can include them in the concert.
E-SAFETY AWARENESS FOR PARENTS:
E-safety education is essential to help to keep children safe whilst using modern technology. On Wednesday evening
we had a presentation that provided information to help parents to keep their children (and themselves) safe when
using the internet, mobile phones, etc.

There will be another chance to come to an e-safety awareness presentation for parents on Safer
Internet Day, Tuesday 10th February 2015. We plan to run a session in the morning after drop off
and another session in the evening at 7pm – please put this date into your diary! In the meantime,
there are excellent online resources you can access from charities such as Childnet, Thinkuknow
(CEOP) and the NSPCC including:

YEAR 6 SECONDARY SCHOOL TRANSFER:
The closing date for secondary applications is 31st October 2014. All parents should have received a letter from the
Local Authority explaining the application process. The LA expects applications on line but we do have paper copies in
the office if you prefer. You are advised to make an application even if you are considering independent education at
secondary level. Do speak to the office staff or to your child’s teacher if you need any sort of help.
NEW FOOTBALL CLUB:
After half term there will be an after school football club for Years 2 and 3 commencing on Monday 10th November.
This will be available for boys and girls with places limited initially to eighteen. If you are interested please register
with Miss Forbes (Diana) in the hall between 8.40 and 9am. The coach Matthew Reece is an FA licensed coach and
coaches at Hinksey Park FC. The cost will be £4 per session and the session will run from 3.10 to 4.10 each Monday.
Your child needs to bring boots (plastic studs only) and shin pads if they have them; if not trainers and suitable socks.
They will also need shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a warm fleece and a 'kagool type' waterproof to wear in addition to
any football top they may wish to wear. A water bottle and a quick snack to eat after school such as a muesli bar
would be good but please no cakes or sweets as we will also talk about sports nutrition.
INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST:
Breakfast club are hosting an open breakfast on Friday 24th October for all families. The children have chosen an
American theme, and they will be serving waffles, pancakes and other delights from 7.50 a.m. Tickets should be
bought in advance from the office. £2 per adult and £1 for every additional family member.
Oxford Science Adventures:
Free activities and real scientific studies at Oxford University’s Experimental Psychology Department.
This half term, researchers from Oxford’s Experimental Psychology Department are running three days of activities for children
aged 5-10 years. From Monday to Wednesday, parents can book a morning or an afternoon slot to bring their child along to take
part in interactive activities, including real studies looking into children’s numeracy and attention. For more information and to

SOAP & Lake Street Playgroup present Family Friendly Fireworks at SOAP, Wednesday 5th November 5pm
Fundraiser for Playgroup and SOAP. Aimed at younger children (preschool and KS1) but all families are welcome. Limited number
of tickets available, advance only (There will be none for sale at the gate). On sale from Monday in the school hall at drop off
through Noelie Chaddar, or call her on 07967 542776. Tickets also available at SOAP everyday after school.
Woodcraft Folk – South Oxford Woodchips
We are looking for new members to join our exciting group. Woodchips is for 3-6 year olds, along with their parents and
younger siblings. We meet on Thursdays 3.30pm-4.30pm in South Oxford. If you are interested in exploring, camping, den
building, making things, playing outside, cooking on campfires, reading stories, singing, sharing and making friends then South
