Our thoughts and prayers are with Kormassa Soriba and family on the death of her brother-in-law, Thomas Kollie and nephew, Wozie Yan, who died recently of Ebola in West Africa. Ebola Crisis Appeal Alarmed at the growing Ebola crisis in West Africa, the United Church is responding with a church-wide appeal. Donations received will be sent primarily to ACT Alliance for its efforts to help contain the spread of the Ebola virus disease (EVD). Your generosity will help raise awareness about how to prevent the spread of the deadly virus and how to protect oneself when caring for infected loved ones. Working with member churches and community leaders in affected countries, ACT is also providing basic protective gear such as gloves and face masks, addressing stigma and discrimination, and providing much-needed psychosocial support to families who have lost loves ones. Contributions are urgently needed to mitigate this increasingly severe crisis: 1. Donate to provide much-needed support for humanitarian relief. 2. Pray for those affected and those engaged in relief efforts. 3. Learn more about the issues surrounding this crisis and United Church M&S partners. Your generous donations will be distributed through ACT Alliance and United Church M&S partners in West Africa. If one member suffers, all suffer together…if one member is honored, all rejoice together. 1 Corinthians 12:26 Our thoughts and prayers are with the youth and young adult leaders of Camp Chipembi (Carla Johnston, Brett Jeacle, Brendan Lines, Camille Audet and Kirsten Jeacle) who are leading worship at Centretown United Church this morning. Xavier Lamb October 20 Revitalization Pledging Drive (September 21 through October 12, 2014) The pledging drive to eliminate the remaining long-term debt associated with the revitalization project closed on October 12. As of October 15, we had received pledges adding up to 82.2% of the $661,000 target. For those who have not yet returned their pledge card, you may still do so by giving it to Keith Jeacle, Emmanuel’s Envelope Secretary. We hope that the 2015 - 2019 pledges, together with the additional donations and support for fundraising activities, will enable us to eliminate the revitalization debt by 2020. The Finance Committee will be presenting its recommendations to Council on October 21 regarding revitalization debt retirement over the next five years. Many thanks to all those who have made pledges for 2015 through 2019. Your contribution towards eliminating a portion of Emmanuel’s financial obligations is sincerely appreciated.
