Rosy Simas (Seneca) is a contemporary dance choreographer and teacher. Her work investigates how culture,
history, homeland, and identity are stored in the body and can be expressed in movement. The Tiwahe Foundation
grant supported traveling back and forth between Minneapolis and her home reservation in Cattaraugus, NY. S
imas unraveled traumatic and powerful stories of her grandmother’s life, which inspired her work, We Wait In The
Darkness. This dance is currently on tour in North America and has been nominated for two 2014 Minnesota Sage
Awards for Dance.
Douglas K. Limon (Oneida) is a traditional and contemporary artist whose beadwork is a spiritual
expression of ancient traditions and cultures that has survived thousands of years. His Cradleboard and Bandolier Bag
projects have been recognized locally and nationally. Tiwahe Foundation helped in launching his greeting cards. He
has received numerous awards and grants for his work and was recently honored with the First Peoples Fund Jennifer
Easton Community Spirit Award.
