Buy early because we usually run out!!! ALL STUDENTS: Halloweentown is coming to the Sadie’s Hawkins Dance, October 29th at 7:30pm. Girls ask the boys or come in a group of friends! You MUST have a signed DANCE CONTRACT to get in the door. Bring it with you. Dance contracts are available in the Activity Office. Dance contract will be good for the entire school year. Tickets are available at the door. Guests must be approved thru the Dean’s Office by Monday, October 27th. Wear your costumes but masks cannot cover your face. Hope to see you in Hallowentown! Don’t forget you must have the white dance contract with you at the door! ALL STUDENTS: Final found of voting for Mr. & Miss Liberty Homecoming candidates will be held Tuesday, October 22nd during both lunches in the quad. All students may vote! ENGLISH HONORS SOCIETY: We have a meeting today, Oct. 20th in Mr. Bishop’s room during 5thlunch. ALL STUDENTS: Congressman Kevin McCarthy will hold a forum in Bakersfield, on Saturday, October 25th for students in the 23rd Congressional District interested in attending one of the U.S. Service Academies. The forum will be held at the Kern County Board of Supervisors Chambers located at 1115 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, CA between 10:30 - 11:30 am. SENIORS: Applications are now being accepted for students interested in attending a United States Service Academy: Air Force, Merchant Marine, Naval and Coast Guard for the entering in June 2015. The application deadline is November 20, 2014 and congressional nominations will be made by December 31, 2014. Scholarships listed on reverse side SCHOLARSHIPS SENIORS: NIFB Young Entrepreneur Award programs are non-renewable scholarships created to recognize young people who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative. The scholarships are valued between $1000 and $15,000. The NFIB Young Entrepreneur program was established to raise awareness among the nation’s youth of the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the building of America. Students are able to apply October 1, 2014 thru December 18, 2014. Students can apply online at www.NFIB.com/YEA. SENIORS: Horatio Alger Association Scholarship. If integrity, determination and courage describe you – you have what it takes to be a Horatio Alger Scholar. Our scholarship rewards students who possess the character to succeed in life. To qualify, you must have at least a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance to go to college. To learn more and apply, visit www.horatioalger.org/schoarships The deadline is October 25. SENIORS: The Alger Association Scholarship. Recipients exhibit integrity, academic promise and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. They also had a household earnings of $50,000 or less and a GPA of 2.0. You can apply online at horatioalger.org The deadline is October 25, 2014. SENIORS: 2014 Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards. We have added a category to the 2014 Youth Awards: Community Service! This category is for community-minded students who have demonstrated excellence in volunteerism and leadership and who are committed to making a difference in our community. It has a special extension due date of October 31, 2014. You can apply online at bit.ly1npK5bS. SENIORS: Bakersfield Chapter is pleased once again to sponsor the DAR Good Citizens program in our area. The student is to be an outstanding young person in the senior class who has shown the qualities of Dependability to include truthfulness, loyalty and punctuality; Service to include cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others; Leadership includes personality, self-control and ability to assume responsibility; and of course, Patriotism, which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community, and nation. All of these qualities make for an outstanding Good Citizen. If you are interested please come to the counseling office to sign up for the DAR Good Citizen scholarship. Please sign up in the counseling office by November 3rd. SENIORS: The California Wine Grape Growers Foundation (CWGGF) is offering at least 6 scholarships in study 2015 to graduating high school seniors. Students may study the subject of their choice. At least two 4-year, $8,000 scholarships are available for any campus in the University of California or California State University system and at least four 2-year, $2,000 scholarships are available for any California community college. Continuation of scholarships is dependent upon satisfactory completion of at least 12 units per semester. Only the children of vineyard employees working in the 2014 or 2015 wine grape growing season are eligible to apply. However, children of wine grape growers may request a waiver from the eligibility requirement based upon financial need. Children of current directors or employees of the CWGGF are not eligible to apply. Applications are available in the counseling office. The deadline is March 27, 2015.
