2014 Fall Technical Committee Letter Ballots
During the AWPA Fall Technical Committee Meetings in Portland, Maine, the committees approved 59
proposals to move forward to letter ballot for the Fall 2014 Standardization Cycle. All ballot forms and
documentation have been posted to the applicable Technical Committee web page (member login
required), and ballot forms were sent by email to all current Technical Committee members on October
15. The ballots will close on Friday, November 14 or when a 60% return is achieved, whichever is later.
All committee members are encouraged to vote as soon as possible. A status report for proposals is
found on the Standards Activity web page.

Nominations
In addition to membership dues and publication sales, AWPA relies heavily upon voluntary contributions
from organizations that support AWPA’s objects and purposes. Through our Organizational Sponsorship
Program, AWPA recognizes its sponsors at meeting, on the website, in publications, and other printed
materials. If your organization sponsored AWPA in 2014, look for a renewal form in the mail in the next
week or two, or you can renew online in the AWPA Store. If you are not currently a sponsor and you’re
interested, please visit the “become a sponsor” web page or contact AWPA for more information.

Penta Standard Reference Materials
Through a joint project between SPTA, Cox Industries, KMG Chemicals, Mississippi State University, and
AWPA, Southern Pine/Pentachlorophenol Standard Reference Materials (SRM) which may be used to
calibrate X-Ray Fluorescence analyzers are now available for purchase. The cost is $210 per set (includes
$10 shipping charge). AWPA members may purchase SRMs using a credit card by logging into the AWPA
store then clicking “SRMs” on the right-hand side of the page under “Categories”. Alternately,
companies may purchase the Penta SRMs by sending a check for $210 (U.S. Funds drawn on a U.S. bank
only) with a letter indicating that the SRMs will be used to calibrate laboratory equipment.

AWPA has recently learned of the death of the following AWPA Life Member. We express our most

 Donn Keefe (Consultant) passed away September 25, 2014. AWPA member since 1972.
Position Announcement
Full-time position in Birmingham, Alabama to assist in managing AWPA and ASC O5. Projects and events
include collaboration with members, oversight of standardization procedures, editing publications,
developing written materials, organizing meetings, maintaining website and social media content,
providing technical support to users of the AWPA and O5 standards, and other general management
activities. Applicant should have good general knowledge of wood deterioration and protection
concepts, very strong computer skills, excellent written and oral communication abilities, dedication to
rules and procedures for standardization, must be a fast learner, and have a member service oriented

Nominations for AWPA Officers, Award of Merit
In the next few months, AWPA members will be nominating individuals to serve as Officers, Executive
Committee Members, or Nominating Committee Members. If you know of an eligible AWPA member
that would serve AWPA well in these positions, please contact Nominating Committee Chair Rich Ziobro,
or you may submit the nomination directly to AWPA. Also, the deadline for nominations for the 2015
Award of Merit is December 1, 2014. Please consult the Award of Merit Policy and submit your
nomination of a worthy individual to AWPA.
Committee Meeting Minutes and Annual Reports
As they are received from the Technical Committee Officers, minutes from the Portland meetings are
posted to each Technical and Special Committee web page in the members-only portion of the AWPA
website. The deadline to submit Annual Reports to the General Chair is November 1, so please send
them as soon as possible.

the Spring and Fall 2013 Standardization Cycles as adopted by the AWPA Technical
