ACSA Child and Family Centre Early Childhood Educator Part-time 1 Year Contract Beginning November 2014 (Possibility of extension) 23 hours/wk - $16.50 per/hour Closing Date: October 27th, 2014 Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA) is a nonprofit, multi service agency at the heart of Agincourt addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities. ACSA’s Child and Family Centre is currently seeking an Early Childhood Educator for its Child and Family programs. The Child and Family programs run 6 days a week at four separate locations throughout the Steeles L’amoreaux and Dorset Park neighbourhoods. Reporting to the Child and Family Services Coordinator, the ECE is responsible for planning and facilitating high-quality programs for children ages 0-6 years old with their parents/caregivers that promote the development of strong and sustainable parent-child relationships through play based learning. Program objectives include supporting the healthy growth and development of children through program activities and educational opportunities for parents/caregivers. The ECE will address developmental domains through program activities and will work with parents and caregivers to strengthen parenting skills and provide additional supports based on family needs. Responsibilities Plan, develop, and implement parent-child programs including a preschool curriculum designed to support children’s psycho-social, physical, cognitive and emotional growth Ensure consistent, high quality programs for infants and toddlers and contribute to a safe and stimulating environment that is welcoming and supportive of parents Provide support and resources to parents and caregivers regarding children’s developmental milestones, behaviour management and parenting support. Actively participates with children and seeks opportunities through program activities to deepen connections and increase engagement of parents and children Responsible for daily attendance records and for reviewing site specific safety protocols Ensuring budget compliance and purchasing of program supplies. Using a positive framework when addressing behaviours and challenges Providing program staff support with program planning, behavioural challenges and additional program needs Working alongside additional staff and volunteers, while engaging in the program. Lead and oversee general housekeeping duties to keep a safe and clean environment for participants, including sanitizing toys and program equipment Respecting confidentiality of program participants and information received, following agency policies Maintaining professional conduct at all times Identify new and emerging needs within the community and reflect these changes in program planning and structure. Flexibility to facilitate programs at various satellite sites on weekdays, evenings and weekends Qualifications ECE or RECE diploma A minimum of two years experience planning and leading play-based learning activities for children 0-6 years old and parents/caregivers Experience implementing strength focused interventions for the early childhood ages Experience working in a multicultural setting with families from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds Understanding of issues related to poverty, housing, welfare, discrimination, child protection and parenting Strong knowledge of family and early childhood resources and referrals Mandatory CPR and First Aid training Mandatory police reference check (vulnerable sectors) Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organization and leadership skills.
