About the Position
The Senior Officer, National Education is responsible for providing support to the National Education
Leader in promoting and fostering continuous quality improvements in education and care services.
The Senior Officer, National Education reports directly to the National Education Leader, who leads the
Education, Consistency and Operations (ECO) group. The position works closely with teams across the
organisation.
About the Education, Consistency & Operations (ECO) Group
Led by the National Education Leader, the ECO Group is responsible for ACECQA’s operational functions
under the National Quality Framework (NQF), monitoring and promoting consistent implementation and
administration of the NQF, in particular:

assessing education and care services for the Excellent rating (the highest possible rating under
the NQF)

undertaking ‘second tier’ reviews (the final review option for an education and care service provider
that is unsatisfied with the rating they have been given by their regulatory authority)

assessing qualifications of educators for equivalence to the prescribed educator levels (e.g.
certificate III level educator; diploma level educator; early childhood teacher) under the NQF

undertaking ACECQA’s consistency and review functions

providing training and support to authorised officers in state and territory regulatory authorities.
About the National Education Leader Team
ACECQA’s National Education Leader works in collaboration with government and non-government
agencies and peak organisations to promote and drive best practice and continuous improvement in early
childhood education and care and school age care.
Responsibilities of the National Education Leader include:







providing expert advice and recommendations on pedagogy
providing strong leadership role in driving strategies for developing and implementing educational
program and practice to enhance children’s learning and development
playing a pivotal role advising on training programs and best practice, excellent rating applications,
second tier reviews and teaching qualifications
recommending innovative programs and service delivery
working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and externally with government jurisdictions,
families and the early childhood education and care sector
delivering presentations, workshops and addresses and developing articles and resources that
build an understanding of and commitment to the implementation of the NQF
undertaking the role of spokesperson on early childhood educational issues in public forums and
through social media.
Key Duties of the Senior Officer









Undertake research and consultation and provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on
issues related to education and care pedagogy.
Draft briefs, reports and policy papers for the ACECQA Executive and Board and external
stakeholders.
Research and develop engaging newsletter articles, journal articles, resources and papers relating
to early childhood education and care (ECEC) and school age care, as well as drafting social
media posts to keep stakeholders informed and engaged with current issues in education and care.
Contribute to the identification of excellent and innovative practice.
Develop high quality interactive presentations for conferences, training programs, meetings and
workshops, as well as presenting at events as required.
Liaise effectively with colleagues across ACECQA to achieve organisational goals.
Build effective working relationships with peak organisations, the Australian Government and State
and Territory regulatory authorities. Complete tasks and projects in a timely and accurate way.
Assist with the organisation of meetings and conferences as required.
Maintain consistent, transparent and accurate records.
Selection Criteria
1. Experience in the delivery of early childhood education and care programs and services.
2. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to
communicate effectively across audiences and genres (including social media, print and web
based) and negotiate confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
3. Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and conceptualise complex multifaceted concepts and
issues, developing proactive and innovative outcomes.
4. Effective teamwork skills, including a proven ability to work with internal stakeholders to achieve
organisational goals. Proven ability to develop productive working relationships with external
stakeholders and peak organisations.
5. Ability to develop and deliver informative and engaging presentations and articles that promote
quality education programs and practices.
6. Knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of relevant legislation, contemporary
research, policies, practices, theories and trends relating to education and care.
7. Demonstrated ability to use a range of technologies and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Pre-Requisites
1. Qualification/s in Children’s Education and Care (Teaching qualifications will be highly regarded)
