There are multiple programs that can be used to increase student achievement. Research
says that everything can impact student learning; the secret lies in what has the greatest
impact with the least amount of school resources being used. Come learn the secrets! Use
the data you receive to report improvements for your reauthorization and DSP's for Charter
Schools.
Kris Johnson, M.Ed.
Kris has been a Teacher, a Principal and a Curriculum/Instruction Coach and Director of Federal Programs for
20 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Arizona State University in Secondary Education,
Social Studies and English; her Masters is in Educational Technology. In recent years Kris has become
fascinated with the role data can plan in ensuring teachers are being given the best information to make the
best choices.

Transforming Online Learning: Colorado River Union High School District
An overview of how online learning has evolved in the school district over the past 3 years.
Discussion on how the program has expanded to a "blended" learning environment to
provide increased learning options in semi-rural area, focusing on completing high school
credit requirements and increasing the graduation rate.
Heather Engelhardt, Director/Principal CRUHSD Academy, Colorado River Union High School

Heather Engelhardt is the director of CRUHSD Academy in Fort Mohave, AZ. Heather earned a Bachelor of
Arts, History, Teaching Certification, and Master of Science, Education Administration from California State
University, Fullerton. Heather taught elementary school for 8 years in Southern California and 2 years in
Montana. She began working for the Colorado River Union High School District in 2011 as a guidance
counselor at River Valley High School. Heather is now the director of the online program for the school district,
enrolling students from both high schools in credit recovery courses, while also working as the principal of
CRUHSD Academy, the district’s online high school, where enrollments varies between 65-75 students.

readers where they are at without making them feel like elementary students.
12:30 - 1:10 Elaine Kendrick, MTESOL, Instructor American English and Culture Program, Arizona State University
Elaine Kendrick is an ELL expert who currently teaches for the AECP program at ASU. As a bilingual educator,
she has worked with English language learners at all levels, from elementary students to adult learners as well
as international students. Most recently, she developed curriculum for and taught groups of high school
students from Brazil.

Professional Development in Payson Unified School District has gone from 0-10 because of
Educational Impact! As a rural school district, 100 miles away from Phoenix, obtaining quality
professional development was challenging and costly. The implementation of EI district wide has
afforded our district the opportunity to offer all employees unique opportunities to grow their
professional practice! In addition, EI has become a very useful tool as all of our educators build their
individual SMART goals for professional growth. Join us to hear how we are using this resource in our

Brenda Case, Ed.S., Director of Student Achievement, Payson Unified School District

Brenda was born and raised in Arizona and completely Arizona educated! She received her education degree
from Grand Canyon College (University), her masters degree from Arizona State University and her Educational
Leadership Degree (EDS) from Northern Arizona University. Brenda spent her initial years as a teacher in Deer
Valley Unified School District and then Paradise Valley Unified School District (15 years). Her career in site
administration kicked off in Washington Elementary School District (10 years) and she has been enjoying
district level administration in the cool pines of Payson, Arizona for the last 2 years.
Brian Mabb, M.Ed., Principal, Payson Unified School District
Brian has served as a Principal at Paradise Valley High School and as an Assistant Principal at Queen Creek
High School (QCHS). He started teaching in 1998 when he joined Teach for America. In addition to working
with children, Brian has also been an adjunct faculty member of Northern Arizona University where he taught
several courses for their M.Ed Bilingual/Multicultural Education program. Brian is currently serving as the
President of the Arizona School Administrators Secondary Division and was recognized as Arizona’s Assistant
Principal of the Year in 2012. He has a M.Ed in Bilingual/Multicultural Education and a M.Ed in Educational
Leadership. Brian is a native to Arizona and currently resides in Payson with his wife and 4 children.

Nancy Foote, M.Ed., Higley Unified School District

Nancy received her B.S. in chemistry (minor in physics) from Loyola University of Chicago. After working as an
industrial chemist for several years, she returned to school to earn her M.Ed. from Arizona State University.
Holding a National Board Certification in the area of mathematics, Nancy spent many years as a classroom
teacher, curriculum specialist, and elementary school principal, and is currently a math and science teacher for
the Higley Unified School District. She has received many awards, including the prestigious Presidential Award
for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and the 2012–2013 AZ Middle School Science Teacher of
the Year award. The proud grandmother of nine, and proud runDisney half marathoner, Nancy maintains a
popular YouTube channel and is the author of several blogs including Science You Can Sink Your Teeth Into – a
science blog and The Unintentional Geek – an educational technology blog. Her latest book is Teacher
Resource Guide to Algebra 1.
