VET355-CISCO NETWORK TECHNICIAN FUNDAMENTALS SMALL NETWORKS MODULE DESCRIPTION: This module is designed to prepare students for the (C)isco (C)ertified (E)ntry (N)etworking (T)echnician exam. Completion of this course provides students with the skills needed to install, operate and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. The curriculum covers networking fundamentals, WAN technologies, basic security and wireless concepts, routing and switching fundamentals, and configuring simple networks. CCENT certification is also the first step toward achieving CCNA, which covers medium size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections. Upon completion of this course students should take exam 100-101 ICND1 to earn their CCENT Certification. See additional exam information below. Prerequisite Course: VET 304 – Technical Foundations for IT Professionals Upon completion of VET355 students should be able to: Install, operate and troubleshoot a small switched and routed network Understand the operation of a data networks Explain the OSI and TCP/IP models and protocols Implement a small switched network Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP services to meet network requirements for a small branch office • Describe basic routing concepts (including: packet forwarding, router lookup process) • Describe the operation of Cisco routers (including: router bootup process, POST, router components) • Manage Cisco IOS • Implement password and physical security Page 1 of 3 Published: 11/04/2013 • • • • • VET355-Cisco Network Technician Small Networks 201310 • • • • • Verify network status and router operation using basic utilities (including: ping, traceroute, telnet,SSH,arp, ipconfig), SHOW & DEBUG commands Describe standards associated with wireless media Identify security threats to a network and describe general methods to mitigate those threats Describe different methods for connecting to a WAN Configure and verify a basic WAN serial connection MODULE CONTENT (SUGGESTED ORDER): Topic 1: Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 1 (ICND1) 1.2 SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Networking, Communications, and LANs (2.0 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Operating Cisco IOS Software (1.5 hrs) 1.4 SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Ethernet Operations (2.5 hrs) 1.1 1.3 1.5 1.6 1.7 1.8 1.9 1.10 1.11 1.12 1.13 SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Switching Operations (1 hr) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Understanding IPv4 Addresses (2.0 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Address Blocks and VLSM (1.5 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: The Transport Layer and Router Configuration (1.5 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Packet Delivery and Static Routing (1.5 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Access Control Lists and Network Address Translation (2.0 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: Managing Network Device Security (2.0 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: VLANs and DHCP (2.5 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: WANs and Dynamic Routing Protocols (2.0 hrs) SS Course: Cisco ICND1 2.0: IPv6 (1.5 hrs) Assessment Required? √ √ √ √ √ √ √ √ √ √ √ √ √ SUCCESSFUL MODULE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS: 1.
