Vaccination
Reminder
The students in Gr. 5 & Gr. 9 were given vaccination consent packages in the last few
weeks. This is a reminder for all Gr.5 & Gr. 9 students to please return the vaccination
consents to the school nurse via the teacher as soon as possible. If you do not wish
consent for the vaccinations at this time, please write “refused” on each consent and
return to school.
In Alberta, the HPV vaccine is offered to all grade 5 and eligible grade 9 students as
part of the provincial routine school immunization program. In support of the HPV
immunization program, Alberta Heath Services has developed an interactive, online
resource to provide parents with the information to make an informed decision for their
child. This tool is available at: www.albertapreventscancer.ca
Volunteers
Teaching Awards
This year we have revised our volunteer form to gather new kinds of information about
you and your talents! If you are interested in volunteering please consider completing
the new two sided form and returning it to the school.
The Excellence in Teaching Awards gives Albertans an excellent opportunity to honour
teachers and principals for the outstanding work they do in the classrooms across the
province. I encourage you to promote the Excellence in Teaching Program and
consider nominating deserving teachers in your school. Follow this link to nominate a

This year, October 31 is a professional development day for teachers so there is no
th
school for students. We do have some Halloween activities planned for the 29 and
th
30 . Our student leaders will be setting up a haunted house and a door decorating
contest. In addition, students will participate in special activities in P.E. class and there
th
will be a costume parade on the 30 . Students are welcome to wear costumes on the
th
30 that do not include weapons, masks that obstruct visibility or those that are adult
themed. In addition our Race for Change Club is challenging students to participate in
the We Scare Hunger Campaign. Instead of collecting candy on Halloween night,
students ask for a donation for the Calgary Food Bank.
