INTERNATIONAL RECRUITMENT
APPOINTMENT LIMITED TO SERVICE WITH UNCCD
The objective of this Convention is to combat desertification and mitigate the effects of drought in countries experiencing
serious drought and/or desertification around the world, particularly in Africa, through effective action at all levels,
supported by international cooperation and partnership arrangements, in the framework of an integrated approach which is
consistent with Agenda 21, with a view to contributing to the achievement of sustainable development in affected areas.
Established by the UNCCD, the Global Mechanism (GM) began its operations in October 1998. As per article 21 of the
Convention, it aims to "increase the effectiveness and efficiency of existing financial mechanisms.” The GM also seeks to
attract and channel investments from innovative financial sources such as climate change funds, private sector operations
and micro-finance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Land Governance and Policy programme (LGP) of the GM, the incumbent
is responsible for the following specific duties:
1. Monitor the effective implementation of the project including preparing and monitoring the annual budget and
work plans in accordance with the “ FLEUVE” project (Front Local Environnemental pour une Union Verte –
Local Environmental Front for a Green Union) logical framework, in close coordination with main project partners.
2. Ensure the recruitment of experts and contracting of institutions as required to undertake tasks in accordance with
annual work plan.
3. Organize Project Steering Committee and Advisory Committee meetings, and support the organization of regional
workshops and other inter-country activities in accordance with the annual work plan;
4. Manage the “Great Green Wall of the Sahel and Sahara Initiative” (GGWSSI) partnership and knowledge
management platform, and regularly liaise with the GM Communications team to ensure harmonization of products
and approaches;
5. Provide quality control at all stages of the FLEUVE project cycle;
6. Maintain records of administrative and financial data of all FLEUVE project operations.
7. Support outreach and capacity building activities including development and dissemination of targeted advocacy
materials on best practices and lessons learned;
8. Prepare timely and quality project progress and implementation reports for submission to EC and other partners, in

accordance with reporting procedures.
9. Contribute to the mobilization of resources for relevant LGP Programme activities;
10. Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS

Advanced university degree in public administration, political or social sciences, management and development related
field.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a position related to natural resource management (NRM) and extensive
knowledge on financing instruments and mechanisms related to NRM.

Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other official UN languages, especially French, would be
an asset.

particular on management of EC projects.

