Testing methods Appearance: visual Total Nitrogen: according to SR EN 15478:2009. The Nitrogen from the urea is mineralised in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid; ammonia is distilled in an alkaline environment, and it is absorbed in an excess solution of sulphuric acid; the excess of sulphuric acid is titrated. Biuret: according to STAS 8495-89 and SR EN 15479:2009. A red-purple complex is formed between biuret and the divalent copper ion, in an alkaline environment, in the presence of a potassium sodium tartrate solution; the coloured complex is photometrically measured at a wavelength of 546 nm. Water content determination: according to SR EN 13466-1:2002, Karl–Fischer method. It is a testing method for specific determination of the water contained in fertilizers, through titration with Karl–Fischer reagent, using methanol as a medium for water extraction. Granulometry (determination of particle size): according to STAS 8495-89, section 4.6, mechanical sieving on sieves with mesh size of 1 and 4 mm and to SR ISO 2591-1:1998. Alkalinity: is determined according to SR ISO 1593:1999 (standard cancelled) and STAS 5698-87 section 4.8., by dissolving 50 g of urea in 200 cm3 of water and 0.01N HCl titration in the presence of a mixed indicator solution (Methyl Red–Methylene Blue). Formalin: the determination is based on compounding the formalin in a strong acid environment with chromotropic acid and measuring the absorbency of the pink-purple compound at a wavelength of 570 nm. Borden test: 16 g of urea is dissolved in 80 ml distilled water, after 10 min of stirring, it is added 2 ml formaldehyde solution 20%, after about 10 min it is read at pH-meter at t=20°C. 4. The tests number 3, 5, 6 are carried out at the client’s request, but the manufacturer guarantees the values specified in the technical specification. 3. Testing methods • Aspect: visually • Concentration: urea content in urea solution is determined by physical analysis method: is determined the solution density at a temperature of 15°C, according to SR EN ISO 12185:2002 and using density concentration table, is determined the urea content in %. By calculation is determined the concentration expressed in % N. The chemical analysis method is used to confirm the results as follows: nitrogen from urea according to EC Regulation 2003/2003, method 2.6.2. It is determined gravimetrically with xanthydrol. Xanthydrol forms a precipitate with urea; co-precipitated biuret is considered as nitrogen from urea. The error is small, its concentration in absolute value, in compound fertilizers is usually low. The result is expressed in % urea and % N. Date of issue: 12.08.2014 Version: 7 Page: 1 / 3 • • • • Alkalinity: is determined according to SR ISO 1593:1999. Free alkalinity is given by the free ammonia in the product. The testing procedure is based on determining free ammonia by neutralisation with acid, using mixed indicator solution. Density at a temperature of 15°C is determined in vacuum according to SR EN ISO 12185:2002 using an electronic densimeter. pH is determined according to STAS 8619/3-90, using a laboratory pH-meter. Freezing point is determined according to STAS 8671-78, section 4.4.2. The sample is introduced in a test tube, which is introduced in another vessel filled with alcohol, and it is then immersed in a cooling mixture at -30°C. The temperature that indicates a constant value is read on the alcohol thermometer introduced in the test tube. 4. Quality inspection Quality inspection is done on batches of approximately 20 tons, during production execution and when loading in cisterns to delivery. Delivery batches are done and analysed countersamples are kept at the provider. Each delivery is accompanied by the conformity statement. At the client’s request, the product is accompanied by a test report. 5. Packaging The products is loaded in stainless steel or plastic recipients, resistant to corrosion, in auto or CFR cisterns. The accompanying documents must be edited in at least one official language of the European Union (for export). Identification data for the product delivered in bulk or in packages that exceed 100 kg is mentioned in the accompanying documents: • Product name: Urea solution 40%. • Declared content for each nutrient: NITROGEN N 18,6% expressed in mass percentage. • The nutrients must be declared in words as well as in chemical symbols. For example Nitrogen (N). • Net mass for the urea solution 40%. • Name or trademark and the producer’s address. • Name, commercial name or trademark and the address of the person responsible for selling the product, established in Romania or in the European Community. 6. Tolerances Producers will not use systematically the advantage of tolerances. According to EU Regulations 2003/2003, annex II, tolerances are negative values in mass percentage. N in urea - 0.4% 7. Handling, storage, transport and guarantees The product is packed and stored in tanks or containers at atmospheric pressure, tightly closed in order to avoid spillage of urea solution. The tanks and containers (including accessories: pipes, flanges, etc.) are made of materials compatible with urea solution: Cr-Ni or Cr-Ni-Mo based stainless steel, or plastic material (polyethylene, polypropylene, isobutylene, and polyfluorethylene).
