AFTERNOON - Power Generation and
Renewable Energy
Moderator:
The energy sector continues to be the main
catalyst for developing Indonesia’s economy.
However the government faces ongoing
challenges of improving country’s energy
infrastructure to remove impediments of
economic growth, through development of
power generation and a streamlined
distribution.
Indonesia is home to 40% of the planet’s
known geothermal energy potential. Yet only
about 4% is currently exploited. The country’s
vast and growing energy needs are met
primarily by fossil fuels, yet Indonesia has
committed itself to significantly reducing its
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through
nationally legislated energy goals include:
 17% renewable energy generation by
2025,
 30% improvement in energy
efficiency by 2025,
 GHG emissions 30% below business
as usual forecasts by 2020.
As such, renewable energy sources will
account for 60% of the 10,000MW of new
energy capacity that Indonesia plans to
develop by 2014 to meet growing energy
demand.

AFTERNOON– Water and Waste Water
Management
Moderator:
Unprecedented demand for clean water and
waste water treatment in Indonesia is currently
being driven by strong economic growth and
rural-urban migration. Burgeoning urban
populations in cities such as Jakarta and
Surabaya are placing huge strains on municipal
water sources.
Effective management of water and wastewater
is a growing challenge in dense urban
settlements. Rapidly increasing urbanization and,
along with that, rising settlement densities in
low-income urban and peri-urban areas highlight
the need for sanitation technologies and
management systems that are robust and
affordable, and which lessen the pollution load
on local water sources. In many developing
countries, centralized wastewater treatment
system covers only a portion of larger urban
areas, and are often not yet planned for smaller
towns and densely populated, low-income areas
of cities.
The session will present priority projects for
water and wastewater treatment either B2B or
PPP and enabling participants to review current
policy from the government, investment
opportunities and exchange knowledge for this
sector issues, including technologies and services
that can reshape these sectors across Indonesia.
