PMA 31st International Biennial Medical Conference
Pakistan Medical Association Lahore is holding its 31st Biennial Medical Conference from
7th to 9th November 2014 in Lahore, the capital city of Punjab. PMA Lahore is hosting this
mega event after an interval of 8 years under the auspices of PMA, the parent body of the
medical profession in Pakistan. In keeping with the PMA tradition, the three day conference
will be a high profile event that is expected to attract more than 2000 participants, including
eminent doctors, and experts of the medical profession from all over the country and
abroad.
Event Highlights
Theme of the conference, “Medical Education, Patient Care, Maternal & Child health’’
reflects current pressing health care issues in the society and some of the millennium
development goals for the country. Enlightening debates, Workshops, Free Papers,
Symposia, Seminars, and discussions will incorporate the theme and highlight important
topics and key issues such as Diabetes mellitus, Hepatitis, Hypertension, Gynecology &
Obstetric care, Cardiovascular diseases, Radiological advancement, Infection control,
Asthma, Diarrhoea in children, Dengue and Tuberculosis etc.
Dialogue on medico-social themes like health policy, quackery, medical ethics, maternal and
child health, reproductive health, blindness, human rights, child abuse, safe drinking water,
substance abuse, tobacco addiction, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV – AIDS and Career
structure for medical professionals will also fair prominently and will be of great interest for
the delegates.
Pre conference workshops on a range of topics in most of medical and surgical specialties
will be led and conducted by experts in their respective fields. These activities will provide a
rare opportunity to the participants to witness live demonstrations and learn about the
latest advances in the medical field as well as to actively participate, interact and get the
opportunity of hands on training for various procedures.
Weeks leading to the conference will be filled with sports and cultural events including
cricket, badminton and table tennis matches arranged in various medical institutions of the
city to facilitate and encourage maximum participation from the medical community.
Debates, Mushaira and dinner to honour medical celebrities and life time achievers will be a
conspicuous and thrilling event. Exciting cultural and social activities will culminate in Gala
dinner and exhilarating musical programme.

The City of Lahore
The beautiful city of Lahore is the capital of the province of Punjab and the second largest
and the second most populous city of Pakistan. Lahore has great geopolitical importance in
the world and renowned for its rich culture, art, beautiful historical buildings and for its
mouth-watering traditional food. In 2006 it was rated by the British newspaper 'Guardian' as
the 2nd best tourist destination in Pakistan after Taxila and often referred to as the "City of
Gardens" due to the historic presence of gardens in and around the city dating back to the
Mughal period. Some of the major tourist attractions in Lahore are Badshahi Mosque,
Lahore fort, Minar-e-Pakistan, Shalimar Gardens, Lahore Museum, Tomb of Jahangir, Tomb
of Nur Jahan, Lahore Zoo, Safari Park, Fortress Stadium, Anarkali Bazaar, Jallo Park and the
Race Course Park. Wagha border between Pakistan and India with spectacular ‘Lowering of
flags ceremony’ every evening is an exhilarating experience to watch. The historic walled
city of Lahore with its magnificent gates is full of mysterious history and never-ending charm
that attracts thousands of visitors locally and internationally.
The city is also known as Pakistan’s educational capital. It has many world renowned
educational institutions including medical universities and colleges recognized by
International medical registering bodies and academic institutions. University of Punjab,
University of Engineering & Technology, King Edward medical college University,
Government college University, Forman Christian college, Government Islamia college and
Kinniard college are among the oldest educational institutions in the subcontinent.
Pakistan’s most prestigious arts college, National College of Arts, is located here. In recent
years an upsurge in private universities, colleges and schools has revolutionized the
education sector in the country.
Visitors who want to take souvenirs back home or buy gifts for their loved ones will find
many shopping malls all over the city with an extensive range of merchandise including
traditional hand made products very popular with the tourists.
Visiting Lahore is special and the spontaneous expression ‘’Lahore is Lahore’’ sums up the
unique experience of many first time visitors to the city.
