AUCC Weekend Preview
AUCC Weekend Preview
It`s a big weekend for our premier men`s side as they attempt to topple the
reigning one-day premiers at Colin Maiden Park, while our Senior A and B teams
are looking forward to getting their own seasons underway.
AUCC Premier Men v Suburbs New Lynn – Colin Maiden Park
Our men`s premier team put their undefeated record on the line against the
reigning one-day champions of Auckland, Suburbs New Lynn, at Colin Maiden
Park tomorrow afternoon.
The visitors are the powerhouses of the premier grade, winning both the one and
two-day competitions last season, however our boys will not be daunted by the
challenge they will face after being one of the few teams to defeat Suburbs last
season.
The visitors have featured Blackcap Martin Guptill as well as Aces Michael Bates
and Jeet Raval in their line-up for the first three weeks of the season, but with the
Plunket Shield now underway Suburbs will not see much of the star trio.
However, they will still name a formidable team for tomorrow`s clash headed by
former Blackcap wicket keeper Reece Young.
Varsity skipper Marc Ellison has been forced to dig deep into his fast bowling
reserves this weekend with Aces seamer Warren Barnes out injured, Chris
Dineen unavailable, and Josh Fisher doubtful for the key clash. Ketan Patel comes
into the side for Dineen with James Partridge also ready to step in should Fisher
be declared unfit.
AUCC Premier Reserves v Ellerslie – Orakei Domain
After a washout last weekend Nigel Fletcher`s premier reserve side will be keen
to get back onto the park this Saturday when they face Ellerslie at Orakei
Domain.
The reserves lost their season opener to Howick Pakuranga before the second
game of the season against Parnell was abandoned after just 20 overs last week.
Fletcher has been forced to make at least one change with Ketan Patel moving up
to the premier side. Fast bowler Tes Taliuli takes his place while Ben Lewis is on
standby to replace James Partridge should the premier team require the allrounder.
AUCC Senior A1 v Waitakere City – Colin Maiden Park D Block
A youthful AUCC Senior A1 side will face Waitakere City at Colin Maiden Park to
kick-off the senior season.
With the absence of school cricket on Labour weekend returning skipper Jamie
Grupen-Hall has taken the opportunity to give three junior players their senior
debuts. Brothers Jack and Will Ormiston play their first games for the club after
moving from Australia last year. Older brother Jack will open the bowling with
Will opening the batting alongside Auckland Grammar School teammate Dillon
Wijisinghe.
Also making her first appearance for the Senior A`s is premier women`s captain
Anna Peterson while Jonty Dineen will be looking to continue the pre-season
form which has seen him score 187 runs in two innings.
AUCC Senior B3s v Grafton United – Cox`s Bay
A lot has changed for our fourth Xl over the winter. Not only was the team
promoted into a new grade but also a new captain has been appointed with
Donald White taking over from Doug Sainsbury who has had to step down
because of work commitments.
White will, however, lead a familiar looking line-up into the opening game of the
season with the likes of Dave Lewy, Cameron Lynch, Jordan Service and Vijay
Chauhan all returning for another summer.
