THE 53rd FLYING FIFTEEN INTERNATIONAL
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE CONDUCTED ON
BRAMBLE BAY, BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND FROM
3rd JANUARY, 2015 TO 10TH JANUARY, 2015.
SANDGATE YACHT CLUB INC. IS THE EVENT HOST CLUB AND WILL ACT
ON BEHALF OF FLYING FIFTEEN INTERNATIONAL AUSTRALIA AS THE
ORGANISING AUTHORITY.
NOTICE OF RACE
1. RULES
1.1 - The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), which
may be modified in accordance with RRS 86.1(b).
1.2 - The following additional rules, conditions, by laws and regulations shall apply:
a. Class Rules of Flying Fifteen International (FFI);
b. Conditions of the Coweslip Trophy of Flying Fifteen International Australia Inc. (FFIA);
c. National Championships By Laws of FFIA; and
d. Yachting Australia (YA) Prescriptions and Special Regulations Part 2 for small open ballasted
boats.
2. ADVERTISING
Advertising shall be in accordance with Class Rule B17; however the forward 25% section of the hull length
on each boat’s side shall be reserved to affix event advertising and bow numbers.
3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
3.1 - The regatta is open to all boats of the International Flying Fifteen Class which:
a. Hold a valid FFI Measurement Certificate; and
b. Are either entered on the FFIA Register of Boats or registered with an association established
outside Australia affiliated with FFI.
3.2 - Both helm and crew shall be financial members of YA, or affiliated to an alternative Member
National Authority (MNA)..
3.3 - The boat’s owner shall be a full financial member of a recognised State or National Flying Fifteen
Association, with affiliation to FFI. In addition, the boat’s helmsperson and crew shall each be a current
member of a recognised State or National International Flying Fifteen Association.
3.4 - Persons nominated on the entry form to sail in the National Championship may not be substituted
without the permission of the Race Committee. Any substitute thus permitted shall not helm the boat.
3.5 - All entrants will compete in the Open Division, while entrants may also elect to be scored in one of
the following:
a. Classic division: – Open to boats with sail numbers up to and including 2700, but excluding boats
which have had substantial hull shell modifications, and in addition, including unmodified boats with
sail numbers above 2700 derived from genuine Classic moulds. A definitive listing of boats qualifying
for Classic status is published on the Flying Fifteen International website at www.flying15.org
b. Silver division: – The Silver Division is open to all boats with registrations from 2701 to 3400 and
also includes any boats with sail numbers below 2701 that do not meet the criteria for Classic
Division.
c. Any dispute regarding the eligibility of a boat in either of the above sub‐divisions will be resolved by
the National Measurer whose decision shall be final.
3.6 - Eligible boats apply for entry by completing the Entry Form accompanying this Notice of Race, and
sending it by Friday 28th November 2014 together with the required fee of $A350 to:

3.7 - Late entries, which must be received by the Regatta Office at SYC by 1600 hrs on Wednesday,
31st December, 2014, will be accepted on payment of an additional fee of $A100.
4. FEES
The Entry Fee for the Regatta, which includes a souvenir shirt for each registered crew member for each
boat entered, and one ticket for each crew member to attend the Welcome Function and the Presentation
Dinner is $A350.
Additional shirts and tickets to any of the social functions outlined may be ordered, and must be paid for
together with the Entry Fee.
5. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
5.1.- Registration will be held at the Regatta Office of Sandgate Yacht Club on Saturday, 3rd January,
2015 and Sunday, 4th January, 2015 between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs.
5.2.- Measurement and Inspection will be conducted at Sandgate Yacht Club on Saturday, 3rd January,
2015 and Sunday, 4th January, 2015 between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs.
5.3.- A Competitors’ Meeting will be convened prior to the start of the Regatta at Sandgate Yacht Club
on Sunday, 4th January, 2015 at 1630 hrs.
5.4.- The series will consist of seven (7) races, dates and times of racing are as follows:

5.5.- Where more than one race is scheduled in one session they will be sailed back to back with a short
delay between them. No more than two (2) races will be sailed in a session.The Sailing Instructions for
the Regatta will detail the schedule of events.
5.6.- Social Calendar
Welcoming Function: Sunday, 4th January, 2015 at 18:00 hrs at SYC
Presentation Dinner: Saturday, 10th January, 2015 at 19:30 hrs at SYC
The Annual General Meeting of FFIA will be held at SYC on Wednesday, 7th January at 1830 hrs.
6. REGISTRATION AND MEASUREMENT
6.1.- At registration all entrants are required to present the boat's measurement certificate, together with
proof of current financial membership of a Flying Fifteen International Class Association.
6.2. - As part of the registration process boats must be presented for equipment and measurement
inspections.
6.3- In the event that a sail or spar has been lost or damaged during the course of the championship and
to such an extent that it cannot be used, the Race Committee may authorise the use of a replacement
sail or spar.
6.4.- As required by the Race Committee or as directed by the Protest Committee, a boat may be
inspected and re-measured at any time during the Regatta.
7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The Sailing Instructions will be available on the regatta website. www.syc.org.au/flyingfifteen
8. VENUE
The Regatta will be conducted on the waters of Bramble Bay (a part of Moreton Bay situated between the
mouth of the Brisbane River and Redcliffe Peninsula), in an area east of the mouth of Cabbage Tree Creek
at Shorncliffe.
9. THE COURSE
The courses to be sailed will be outlined in detail in the Sailing Instructions and will consist of a combination
of windward, leeward, and triangle legs.
10. SCORING
10.1. - Four races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
10.2. - When fewer than five (5) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her
race scores.
10.3. – When five (5) or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her
race scores excluding her worst score.
10.4. - Handicaps for the Allen Brooke Trophy will be determined by back calculation based on the
finishing times in the first three races. A boat’s handicap may be adjusted according to its results in
subsequent races. Points will be awarded for handicap results in accordance with 10.2 and 10.3 above.
A boat that finishes in the first three places in either the Open, Silver, or Classic Divisions will be
ineligible to win the Handicap Trophy.
11. SUPPORT VESSELS
Support vessels shall clearly display code flag “U”. Coaches and other support personnel shall not
encroach within 50 metres of any competing boat in the race area between the warning signal of any race
and the finishing time of the last boat of that race.
12. RADIO COMMUNICATION
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make nor receive radio communications whilst racing. This
restriction also applies to mobile telephones. [This changes Class Rule B14.5].
13. BOAT PARKING AND LAUNCHING
The Regatta will be a “dry” regatta, with each boat being allocated individual accommodation within the
grounds of Sandgate Yacht Club. Launching and retrieval of boats is exclusively via a launching ramp
situated within 50 metres of the boat parking area. Throughout the Regatta the ramp will be controlled by a
Ramp Marshall, and a team of volunteer helpers shall assist with launching and retrieval of boats to
expedite the procedure for all competitors.

14.2.- Sponsors Daily Prizes will be presented at the conclusion of racing each day at an informal
barbeque held at the Club for the benefit of competitors and their guests. Other prizes may also be
awarded at the discretion of the Organising Committee on these occasions.
14.3.- Major Championship Prizes will be presented at the Presentation Dinner.
15. DISCLAIMER
Entrants are reminded of the Fundamental Rule: Decision to Race which states: “The responsibility for a
boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”
No responsibility will be accepted by the Organising Committee and Sandgate Yacht Club (Inc), their
officers, members, volunteers or staff or any Sponsor connected with the Regatta for any loss of life,
personal injury or loss or damage to property which may be sustained by reason of participation or intended
participation in the Regatta or howsoever arising in connection with the Regatta.
