KIMONOS







The Kimono is a traditional dress worn by Japanese people.
The type of Kimono worn depends on the occasion.
The Kimono goes from ones shoulders to their heels. It has long
sleeves that fall to the hand.
Kimonos usually only come in one size. But there are differences
between ones for men from the women's.
In the case of women’s formal wear, they have a belt which is 10
inches wide.
Today in Japan people only wear their kimonos on special
occasions.
Kimonos are mainly made from silk but, they can come in cotton,
wool and linen.
School Uniform
Girls'
uniforms
might
include a
gray
pleated
skirt and
white
blouse.
The most
common
uniform
worn among
the girls in
middle
school and
high school
is the sailor
outfit
The Japanese
word for this
type of
uniform
is seifuku.
The gakuran
or
the tsumeeri is the
most
common boys
uniform
worn among
the middle
school and
high school
boys.
Most boys
wear a
white shirt,
short pants,
and a cap.
EVERYDAY




CLOTHING
In the summer children and young adults wear Yukatas, which
are a lightweight, informal version of a Kimono.
Today young people prefer to wear clothing that is easier to
move around in. Eg T-shirts, jeans, polo shirts, and sweat suits.
Japanese people also take their shoes off before entering
houses. They do this as some rooms have tatami flooring, so
that they don’t get the flooring dirty.
They change into slippers once they have removed their shoes
so their feet don’t get cold and socks don’t get dirty.
