LET’S GET ACQUAINTED
By Midge Berry
Although born in Salt Lake City, Sheila LaPrade spent her “growing up”
years in San Francisco. Her passion for astrology led her to study at the
Astrological Faculty of San Francisco and become a member of the
American Federation of Astrologers. Later she became a member at the San
Diego Astrological Society. Astrology was a source of income through charts
and teaching for years. . A busy woman, she has worked in many fields
including Social Services here and in Tucson, manager of a private VFW Club, 8 years in the
ministry teaching, counseling, head of prayer circle and delivering Sunday Services. Sheila is
currently licensed in the State of CA through The Teaching of Intuitional Metaphysics. She does
weddings, funerals and is working on a Bible Study Class. On the lighter side, Sheila was with
the El Cajon Elks Lodge Follies and a Red Hat Queen for 10 years. Phew! All that and she finds
time to arrange the Dine Out dinners for WOW. We all thank you Sheila, and a special thanks
from WOW Members west of La Mesa for arranging luncheons in our area!

our members who are ailing

President’s Corner
I’m elated to report that the 2014/2015 Board of Director’s was
approved by the WOW membership in attendance (54) at the General
WOW Meeting at Big Rock Park on September 14th 2014. A big set of
THANK YOUs go to all of you who braved the relentless 104 plus
degree heat to come out to cast your vote and let your voices be
heard. My next set of THANK YOUs goes to those who graciously
volunteered to fill the vacant board and committee positions: Alice
Bush – 1st Vice President, Hazel Conklin – 2nd Vice President, Mary
Burgert – Secretary, Joyce Mills - Decorations Committee Chair and Laura Giyer – Luncheons
committee position. And I can’t give enough THANK YOUs to the board and committee
members who have so generously agreed to serve another year: Karl Ulle – Treasurer, Bob
Creech – Director (Membership chair), Sheila LaPrade Director (Dine-outs/Luncheon chair),
Dottie Zoellner Director (Reservations), Georgene Schorr – Director (Supplies), and committee
volunteers: Sunshine Lady - Grace Lassiter, Membership - Darlee Helmer & Nancy Acevedo,
Luncheons - Laura Giyer, Solos - Marcy Lawson, Lake Murray Walkers – Don Huckle, and last,
but certainly not least our Newsletter Editor & Web Master – George Cooper. Finally, a colossal
THANK YOU to the 25th Anniversary committee and all those that I failed to mention, and to all
of you who chip-in to help at the many events and functions—it is appreciated. We are looking
forward to the big 25th Anniversary/Installation party.
THANK YOU ALL!
Bob Walker, WOW
WOW President 619-444-0396
ON GOING ACTIVITIES
Need Exercise? A walking group meets at Lake Murray on Saturday mornings at 8:30, and Monday and
Thursday evenings at 4:00 during the Pacific Standard Time period. The walkers meet at the entrance of
the main parking lot on week days and at the bottom of the hill from the upper parking lot by the gate
on Saturdays. To get there take Lake Murray Blvd. off I-8 to Kiowa. Turn left and go all the way to the
parking lot. Just look for a group of lively-looking grey-haired people. They go to a place for food and
conversation following the walk. For additional information call Eva Turner (619-442-4078).
Dance Lessons: Got two left feet? Why not join us on Wednesday, 11:00 am at the Starlight Dance
Studio, 6506 El Cajon Blvd. to learn the dance steps you have always wanted to learn. Its fun and the
cost is only $7.00. The lesson focus for November is the East Coast Swing and December is the Tango.
Our fabulous instructor is Steve Showers. Call Dick Butler at 619-425-7407 for additional details.
