Sharing “The Funny Side of Life” as part of the Fresno City College Speakers Forum
As a 1985 graduate of Fresno City College Sheryl returned to the campus on Monday, Sept. 21 to
present “The Funny Side of Life” as part of the Fresno City College Speakers Forum and the
California Endowment. After graduating from Fresno City College with an associate degree in
liberal arts, Underwood attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where she earned a Bachelor
of Arts degree in liberal arts. She later earned a master’s degree in media management mass
communication from Governor State University in University Park, Illinois.
Sheryl Inspires Students at the University of Illinois
On September 9, Sheryl inspired students to get involved and make a
difference. She also left them feeling that anything is possible. Sheryl,
as a former intern for Oprah Winfrey on WLS-TV and with WBBM
radio as an undergraduate, remembers a time when women of color
were a minority in the entertainment industry. Sheryl illustrated the
power of encouragement by saying that because someone at UIC said
she could make it in media and entertainment, she believed she could
do it.
