She continues to lend her celebrity and insight to help strengthen communities and support education, especially Historically Black Colleges and Universities. So What’s Up with Sheryl? THE TALK kicks off a new season on September 14 With Sheryl at the table, CBS television’s THE TALK returned for season 6 on September 14. Like many of our favorite shows, THE TALK has been on summer hiatus, but the ladies have not been knitting at home, they’ve been traveling the country meeting and mingling; catching up on personal and professional projects and getting ready for a new, dynamic season of juicy conversation; entertaining and informative segments and amazing performances. Congressional Black Caucus Foundation invites Sheryl to Moderate and Participate in Annual Legislative Conference Panels Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, representing North Carolina's 12th District, invited Sheryl to moderate the "HBCU College and Career Fair" Panel as part of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference (CBCF ALC). The HBCU Panel, held on September 18, addressed the Importance of our nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities, both academically and economically. Panelists were Angela Burt-Murray Co-Founder of Cocoa Media Group and former Editor-in-Chief of Essence Magazine; Lance Gross, Actor, Media Personality; Dr. Ivory Toldson, Deputy Director for The White House Initiative on HBCUs; Meagan -more- Fitzgerald, Reporter, NBC4 and Angela Talton, Senior Vice President, Global Diversity and Inclusion for Nielsen Corporation. On Saturday, September 19, Sheryl participated in an Issue Forum on Caregiving in the African American family titled "Returning the Love: Conversations About Caregiving," hosted Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, representing New York’s 9th district. Other panelist were Congresswoman Clarke, actor Blair Underwood, radio host Donnie Simpson (Moderator), and Edna KaneWilliams, AARP SVP Multicultural Leadership. Though a card-carrying Republican, while at the CBCF ALC Sheryl had chance to chat with “her” President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The CBCF ALC is attended by over 9,000 people from across the country and features 70 public policy forums, a national town hall, networking sessions, procurement fair, prayer breakfast, the Phoenix Award Dinner and more. The Launch of Sheryl Underwood Radio – THE APP “It’s Radio In Your Hand” Sheryl has jumped into the “app pool” releasing Sheryl Underwood Radio-The App, a mobile gateway to all things Sheryl Underwood. From her radio show to her philanthropy, to breaking new talent, users can access full show episodes - all through The App. Sheryl Underwood Radio – The App is available in the App Store and on Google Play for just $1.99. Fans of her popular Sheryl Underwood Radio show can listen to full radio show episodes, heard around the country on terrestrial radio. She says “as a member of the Greekletter community and as a radio, TV and film entertainer, I understand the impact that media and technology can have on sharing the story of our organizations to the wider community. I’d like to continue doing my part to communicate the important legacy and positive impact that sororities and fraternities, and their members, have on our world and culture by inviting sororities and fraternities to write, produce and perform a radio theater presentation depicting the history of their sorority or fraternity. Not only will these productions be featured on The App, they will also be promoted on her land-based radio shows. She adds, “Each organization submitting a “show” will receive a $500 honorarium for their broadcast quality audio production.” The very first broadcast quality submission accepted for airing on the app, will be showcased on the terrestrial version of the Sheryl Underwood Radio show, which airs in markets across the country and on four HBCU campus radio stations, with more being added. Rob’s national career began as the Executive Producer for the Nationally Syndicated Michael Baisden Radio show and moved onto senior producer for The Doug Banks show, then senior-level 3 producer for the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show. A Time To Laugh brought Sheryl, and a talented slate of young comedians, to the event to the delight conference attendees. Sharing “The Funny Side of Life” as part of the Fresno City College Speakers Forum As a 1985 graduate of Fresno City College Sheryl returned to the campus on Monday, Sept. 21 to present “The Funny Side of Life” as part of the Fresno City College Speakers Forum and the California Endowment. After graduating from Fresno City College with an associate degree in liberal arts, Underwood attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts. She later earned a master’s degree in media management mass communication from Governor State University in University Park, Illinois. Sheryl Inspires Students at the University of Illinois On September 9, Sheryl inspired students to get involved and make a difference. She also left them feeling that anything is possible. Sheryl, as a former intern for Oprah Winfrey on WLS-TV and with WBBM radio as an undergraduate, remembers a time when women of color were a minority in the entertainment industry. Sheryl illustrated the power of encouragement by saying that because someone at UIC said she could make it in media and entertainment, she believed she could do it. ### 4
