Dec. 5 TADS Tuition Assistance DEADLINE Special Announcements Tuition Assistance for the 2015-2016 School Year The Archdiocese of Washington and Mary of Nazareth School will once again be using TADS for evaluating applications for tuition assistance. The deadline for applications to be considered by the Archdiocese is December 5, 2014. This is a firm deadline. Please see the link to the online application HERE. All families who feel they may have a need for tuition assistance next year should begin this process as soon as possible to allow adequate time for all supporting documentation to be submitted and reviewed. This application will also be used for awards made from the Mary of Nazareth tuition assistance fund. In order to be considered for tuition assistance from Mary of Nazareth, you must complete a TADS application. Saint John's Catholic Prep Fall Open House You are invited to attend an open house at Saint John’s Catholic Prep at their new campus located in historic Buckeystown, MD on Sunday, November 2nd from 1–3 pm. The open house is a wonderful way for prospective students and their families to experience the school’s community, meet students, faculty, and staff and learn more about a faith-based, college prep education. There will be tours of the new campus and an area in the gym where you can meet with faculty and co-curricular representatives. Admissions and financial assistance information will be available. Saint John’s is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory high school now located at 3989 Buckeystown Pike in Buckeystown, Maryland. This year’s Gala is going to be a Dy-no-mite! evening as we “Get Down” and support MoN. Our Chairs are planning a “Far Out” event with lots of fun and surprises in store. “Can You Dig It?” Cotillion Reminder Our Cotillion series concludes on Saturday, November 1st with a formal evening of dinner and dancing. NOTE TIME CHANGE: COTILLION WILL BEGIN AT 7:00 P.M. Students are to arrive at 6:45 pm and can be dropped off in the circle. Memorial Program The Mary of Nazareth School Memorial Program offers families a unique opportunity of prayer for the souls of their departed loved ones. Inscribed upon a brass plate, your loved one’s name is posted on the school’s entry wall. All individual’s names will be included in the prayers of our faculty, staff, and students. This opportunity is available for a contribution to the school of $250.00. All contributions are taxdeductible. Please see the brochure HERE and in the Wednesday packet. HSA News Next HSA Meeting, Wednesday, November 5 Please join the HSA Executive Board on Wednesday Night, November 5th at 6pm for our November General Meeting. Mr. Friel will be speaking about the ADW Personal Safety Program. Plus, Mrs. Elizabeth Rorick will be speaking on behalf of the By-Laws Review Committee to give the parent community an update on the by-law revision process and she will be able to answer any questions or concerns parents may have on this subject. Grandparents Day Info Calling All Grandparents’ Day Volunteers!!! Grandparents’ Day is November 24, 2014. We need many volunteers to make the event a success. There are a number of dates and tasks from which to choose, including: MPR/Art room/classroom set up (Friday 11/21, 6-8 pm); baked goods/breakfast food drop off (Sunday 11/23, 4-6 pm), greeting grandparents, serving food and beverages, coat checking, shuttle driving and clean up (Monday 11/24, various times until noon). It's that time of year again when we need to collect grocery store loyalty card numbers from parents. These programs at Giant, Safeway, and Harris Teeter are a great way for our school to earn free $$! All you need to do is sign-up and shop. Please help us raise some easy money for the HSA! Next Due Date is Friday, November 14th With A Gobble, Gobble Here, and a Gobble, Gobble There!! Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so get your SCRIP cards ordered now for the holiday festivities. This is also a great time to start preparing for the Christmas season as well. So get your orders in and be ready to go! All orders and payments must be received by Friday, November 14th. Mary of Nazareth School THANKS YOU for helping out by participating in this great SCRIP program! SCRIP is prepaid cards from national and local retailers, used just like cash, and are the same cards that you would buy at the store. Except when you buy them from MoN you are helping raise funds that go towards the school! No additional out-of-pocket expense outside of what you would normally spend on groceries, clothing, school and household supplies, pet supplies, dining out, and even travel and vacation! Use them for yourself and family, your household, or gift them for birthdays and special occasions. Volunteer Round-Up Santa Shop Items Needed Planning for the Santa Shop at our annual Breakfast with St. Nick has begun! We are in need of wrapping supplies (wrapping paper rolls, red and green tissue paper, and/or gift tags). We are also accepting NEW/UNUSED items that can be made available for purchase in the Santa Shop. All items will be priced $5 or less. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Book Fair Volunteers Needed Please come and volunteer to work our Scholastic Book Fair. It is the week of November 3rd - 7th. A Wider Circle We need volunteers to help unload donations out of cars and place them into the KFC on Fri. & Sat., Nov. 21 & 22. Hot Topics Spirit Shop News The Spirit Shop will be open this fall on Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm!! It's getting cold outside and it is time to think about chilly weather and winter uniforms. We have warm blankets, hats, and sweatshirts, as well as chairs and umbrellas for those days when you are sitting outside at your child’s sporting event. We are also fully stocked with the newly approved ¼ zip sweatshirt, heart crew sweatshirt, and the new ribbon belts. Please stop by and check out the new merchandise as well as the clearance items. If you cannot make it to the Spirit Shop next week, we are always happy to set up a time to open the Spirit Shop for you and we can always fill an order through backpack mail. Social Concerns Serving Christ by Serving Others We will be having our annual community drive for A Wider Circle. The mission of A Wider Circle is to help children and adults lift themselves out of poverty. They provide basic need items to families transitioning out of shelters or simply living without life’s necessities. Please donate items that you would be proud to give your family or friends. A ‘Wish List’ is available HERE and in the Wednesday packet. They are especially in need of pillows, blankets, bedding (full, queen & twin) and mattresses. On Friday, November 21st and Saturday, November 22nd, we will be collecting items at the KFC. Your items are tax deductible and we will be providing forms when you drop off your items. Contact: [email protected]. St. Martin’s Annual Coat Drive Please support our annual St. Martin's Coat Drive. We will be collecting gently used coats. They are especially in need of children's coats this year. We will be collecting them November 3rd - 5th in the KFC before and after drop off. If you have any questions, please contact Karrie Cerone at [email protected]. After The Bell Soccer Banquets Attention all soccer players, our end of year banquets are quickly approaching! The Cadet and Rookie Banquet (grades 2-4) will take place Monday, Nov. 3 at 7 pm in the cafeteria. The JV and Varsity Banquet (grades 5-8) will take place on Monday, Nov. 17 at 7 pm in the cafeteria. Ski Club Discounted Night Club Cards The entire MoN Community can purchase discounted Night Club Cards through our Ski Club that allows you to ski any night from January 2 through Mid-March at either White Tail, Ski Liberty or Round Top. Rookie Basketball Assessments Rookie GIRLS – Wed. 11/5 from 6-7:30p at Roberto Clemente MS. Rookie BOYS – Thurs. 11/6 from 12:45 – 1:45 pm at the KFC (noon dismissal day) All students attending should bring lunch and a drink and a change of clothes (including tennis shoes) for the assessment. Players must be registered online to be considered for a team & during assessments. Players may attend both the initial & makeup sessions with their higher scores used during team formation. There will be no makeups for the Rookie Division. Late registrations will be accepted for Rookie basketball as space permits. Please add a $10 late fee to the registration cost. K-1 Basketball Program The K-1 Basketball Program is a MoN in-house program played at two Upper Montgomery County gyms. Practice/games take place on Friday nights beginning on Jan. 16 through Mar. 13th. The first part of each hour long session includes instruction & drills. The second part will include games against other K/1st grade teams. It is a great introductory program for this age group and a great way to get to know fellow classmates & parents! ALL players must be registered and paid to play by December 5th to guarantee your child will be assigned to a team. Visit the K-1 basketball program page HERE for more information. Please create an account if you haven't done so yet to get started and select the K-1 Program. Make checks payable to MoN for $60. Each player will receive a T-shirt with their team color & trophy at the end of the season. K1 does NOT need to send a uniform deposit for their player.
