PASTOR’S COLUMN:
Dear Friends In Christ,
It is hard to believe that we are just 3 weeks away
from the start of the Advent Season. I bring this to
your attention now, so that we can all be prepared to
begin this new liturgical year in prayer. There are
three specific ways that I am going to suggest that
we all pray. One is to pray the prayer for the World
Meeting of Families. The second is a prayer asking
God's blessing on our parish as we continue the
process of becoming one in Christ. The third
is prayer from a booklet of prayerful reflections that
we will be distributing to all members of our parish
at Mass on the first weekend of Advent.
Regarding the prayer for the World Meeting of
Families-This papal event will take place
from September 22 to 27, 2015. The Archdiocese
of Philadelphia will host this great event. It has not
been officially confirmed yet, but there is great
hope that Pope Francis will attend and celebrate a
Mass open to the public on Sunday, September 27th
on the Parkway in Philadelphia. With all of this in
mind, the Archdiocese has come up with a prayer
that we will be praying right before the start of each
mass beginning on the first Sunday of Advent,
November 30th.
As far as the prayer for our parish, this is a prayer
that we will offer at the conclusion of the prayers of
intercession at Mass each Sunday. Finally, the
booklet of prayerful reflections is from a website
called "Sacred Space" which is run by the Irish
Jesuits. They give a teaching on how to pray in the
way of Saint Ignatius Loyola and then they offer a
daily, one page reflection for every day during
Advent to help us all prepare for Christmas and to
grow together in holiness as a parish.
I ask you to take note of the Transition Team
updates in this bulletin. You will see that we have
come up with a schedule of Masses for Christmas,
some of which will take place at Queen of Peace
Church and some of which will take place at Saint
John of the Cross, our worship site. You will also
notice that the team has had a chance to review the
financial reports of both Saint John of the Cross and
Queen of Peace as of June 30, 2014, which was the
end of the fiscal year for each parish right before the
merger. I will be writing a letter to you about this
report within the next two weeks so that you can
be updated on this information as well. Have a
blessed week.
Your In Christ,
Father John Nordeman
A PRAYER FOR
THE WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES
PHILADELPHIA 2015
God and Father of us all,
In Jesus, your Son and our Savior,
You have made us Your sons and daughters
in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love
Help our families
In every part of the world
Be united to one another
In fidelity to the gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family,
With the aid of your Holy Spirit,
Guide all families,
Especially those most troubled,
To be homes of communion and prayer
And to always seek your truth and live in
your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Pray for us!

I BUILDING A NEW PARISH COMMUNITY
TRANSITION PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Your wisdom is beyond our understanding;
surround us with your love, so that we may not be
overwhelmed by our loss. Let us find comfort in our
sadness, certainty in our doubt, courage to live
through this difficult time and strength to meet the
days to come.
We hope these months of preparation will find us
open to new possibilities that will unite us as one
faith community, so that we may pray, worship and
serve one another in your Name.
May the richness, diversity and gifts of our people
be treasured and used as we become one in the
Body of Christ.
Let us view this moment of change and renewal, not
as a threat to what has been, but as an invitation to
build up the foundation which has been given to us:
a vibrant, new community of faith, united in mission
and dedicated ever more to the fruitful building up
of your Kingdom.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

SAINT CHARLES BORROMEO
2014-2015 SEMINARY APPEAL
Deepening the Faith ~ Together in Service
The weekend of Nov. 15 & 16,
Father Taglianetti, faculty member at St. Charles
will speak at each of the Masses about
Seminary Life and the Annual Seminary Appeal.
*********************************
Dear Friends,
Each, May, I have the honor of ordaining men to the
priesthood for the Church of Philadelphia. For these
men, this achievement is the culmination of a long
process of formation and education at our magnificent
St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. Ordinations inspire
and renew me as I strive to lead this great
Archdiocese each day.
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary is advancing a vital
mission – to deepen the faith and character of each
seminarian, diaconate candidate, religious, and lay
person. Our seminarians are becoming the heroic
leaders, humble servants, and holy priests we need for
our future Church. The deacons, religious, and lay
people, who will partner with our seminarians, are
seeking advanced degrees to deepen their faith for a
greater service.
Pope Francis has said: “Keep always before your
eyes the example of the Good Shepherd who came not
to be served, but to serve, and who came to seek out
and save what was lost.”
Our Seminary’s purpose is not only to deepen the
student’s faith but also to serve as a center for
enriching the wider Catholic community: it is for the
benefit of all of us.
Saint Charles stands as a beacon of inspiration for all.
I encourage you to support our Seminary, to visit it,
and to sustain the critical work being done,
“deepening the faith, together in service.”
May God bless you all.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.
Archbishop of Philadelphia

Beginning with the 1st Sunday of Advent, as a
parish, at the beginning of each Mass, we will be
praying the prayer forwarded to us by the
Archdiocese for the World Meeting of Families
which will take place in Philadelphia in September
2015. We will also conclude our Prayers of
Intercession with a prayer for God's blessing on our
parish as we continue become one in Christ.
The condition of the kneelers was discussed.
Estimates received for upgrading the kneelers are
extremely costly. The team will investigate other
options for upgrading the kneelers without incurring
additional debt for our parish.
A consensus to the Christmas Mass schedule was
reached. The Team believes it is in the best interest
of all parishioners and their families and guests to
make use of all the facilities available to our parish.
Therefore, the following mass schedule will be used:
¾ Christmas Eve Mass at Queen of Peace
Church: 4:00, 6:00, and 8:00 p.m.
¾ Christmas Eve Mass at our worship site, St.
John of the Cross Church: 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
¾ Christmas Day Mass at Queen of Peace
Church: 7:30, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.
The Transition Team reviewed the financial reports
from both Saint John of the Cross and Queen of
Peace for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2014. A
letter will be mailed out soon to all parishioners with
a summary of our financial situation.

Good Shepherd Catholic School
Experience GSC – Testimonials from Members of our School
Volunteer Leadership Groups
(Principal’s Advisory Board & Home a& School Association)
We are blessed with many valuable assets at GSC; wonderful
families, deep-rooted community commitment, an excellent
faculty, exemplary leadership, & wonderful students . . . In
addition to all of these gifts, our greatest assets are our dedicated &
loyal volunteers. I am honored to share with you testimonials from
members of our School Volunteer Leadership Groups. These gifts
add to our most valued treasures, we hope you agree.
Member - Principal’s Advisory Board
I am product of catholic grade school. It was, therefore, important
to me to ensure my children were given the same educational &
spiritual foundation afforded to me. Good Shepherd Catholic
School far exceeds my expectations in both regards. GSC truly is
the place to be. Beyond a focused, in-depth curriculum that
integrates strong Catholic & moral teachings, GSC is a real
community. It is a learning community where teachers are
committed to advancing each student on an individual level &
helping them to earn their highest potential. It is a spiritual
community, where the tenets of our Catholic faith are applied &
practiced on a daily basis. It is a cultural community, where
students are encouraged to participate in the arts during & after
school & open the doors to new discovery within themselves. It is
an athletic community, where students can participate in sports
regardless of skill level & learn important concepts like teamwork
& self-confidence. I would definitely encourage parents of young
children to consider GSC as an educational option. I know they
will be impressed, as I am every day, with the school’s leadership,
the dedication of its educators, & above all else, the students
themselves who comprise the GSC community.
Member - Home & School Association
I support Good Shepherd Catholic School because I truly believe
in it with all my heart. The children, faculty & staff are very
spiritual, caring & helpful so I want to try & give back as much as
I can. I would truly recommend GSC to anyone because I know
how inviting & supportive our school family is. It is easy to talk
about the school & sell its exceptional qualities to others. The
teachers are very dedicated to the students, parents & community.
It is a gem of a school that I would love more families to become a
part of & take advantage of all we have to offer. I would
encourage others in our community to support Good Shepherd
because the education & values that are received are important to
students. Supporting GSC will not only help the school grow in the
future but it will give those in the community a sense of
satisfaction knowing that they were a part of the school’s great
success. As a parent I like to say that I would sell my soul to keep
my children in Catholic school! Good Shepherd especially has
enhanced my children's grades, strengths & molded them into the
fine boys that they are today.
Member - Principal’s Advisory Board
We chose GSC because the school is local & we wanted our
children to have a private-school-like education. The greatest
strength of GSC is the students' respect for faculty, staff, &
volunteers, & their caring attitudes towards one another & others.
These things produce an environment that is conducive to learning
& thriving for students. I would recommend GSC to another
family because the environment & feel of the school is inviting,
friendly, & close-knit. I would recommend that others support
GSC because it is a school that instills in the students values,
morals, & great education that will last a lifetime for them & help
them grow to be responsible, caring individuals.
Thank you for continuing to share the great news from the halls of
Good Shepherd Catholic School with your community of family &
friends.
