PITTSBURGH NOW (NIGHT OF WORSHIP): is an
event aimed at drawing you closer to Christ and helping
you kick off the Advent season in the right frame of mind
and heart. An inspirational message and powerful praise
and worship music will help lead you to an intimate
encounter with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.
The night will conclude with time for fellowship.
Refreshments will be served. Pittsburgh NOW will take
place in the Cardinals' great hall at St. Paul's Seminary
from 7:00-9:00 PM on December 6.

Thanks to all that attended the Fall
Family Festival. The winner of the chili
cookoff was Doug Rishel and the
runner- up was Rob Powers. The pie contest was won
by Denise Stroup for her "Aunt Mille's Apple Pie" and
the runner-up was Carol Fiano for a spicy pumpkin pie.
The Parish has great cooks!!!
Virginia Belavic won the Autumn gourmet snack
basket. The estimation station winners were Lianna

APOSTOLATE COMMITTEE:

CHRISTIAN FAMILY MOVEMENT (CFM):

FREE STORY TIME SESSIONS AT EAST
CATHOLIC SCHOOL LIBRARY:
Wednesday, November 12, is the next “Perfect for
Preschoolers Story Time.” This is a free story, rhyme,
song and craft program designed to entertain and engage
young children. The program is for children 2-1/2 to
5 years old and is designed to give them a positive
introduction to books and the habit of reading. Each
program features appealing books, favorite stories, and
lively activities. The theme of this Story Time is
“Thanksgiving.” There will be one session from
12:30 to 1:30 PM. We invite all children, along with
their parent or guardian, to come and visit Story Time at
East Catholic School Library. Registration is required
by calling East Catholic School Office (412-351-5403)
during school hours (8:30 AM-2:00 PM). Final date for
registration is Monday, November 10. Join us for some
“Thanksgiving” fun! East Catholic follows the
Woodland Hills School District weather cancellation
policy.

2 annual Fall Boutique Vendor Sale on Sunday,
November 23, from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM, in Keane Hall.
We are looking for vendors to host a table. It’s a great
event to get people excited about Christmas shopping!!
We are opening it up to East Catholic parents first.
Your deadline to reserve a space is Wednesday,
November 12. After that we will open the table
reservations to the people outside of our school
community. Table cost is $30 and a merchandise
donation for the raffle basket is required. If you are

MR. ROGERS SWEATER DRIVE: is
once again being sponsored by the Christian
Family Movement. The Big Red Box will
be in the narthex of the Church for your
donations starting next Saturday, November 15. Please
bring your clean, gently worn sweaters of any size and
deposit them in the box, which will remain there
through November 24. Those in need of warm
sweaters this winter in the Pittsburgh Area will
appreciate your donations.
ST. MAURICE
THE TEMPLE AND WORSHIP: In all of today’s r eadings, the temple is pr ominently mentioned.
Ezekiel speaks of streams of living water flowing out from the temple, watering the desert, bringing life
to all living things, offering fresh healing to God’s people.
Paul reminds the Corinthians that their faith rests upon the firmest of foundations, Christ himself.
More than that, Paul reveals that those who follow Christ are themselves temples, temples of the Holy Spirit; that is,
God dwells not only with them, but in them.
For the Jews of Jesus’ time, the temple had come to be identified with the presence of God and the only place
where authentic worship of God took place. Jesus had a different perception. Jesus identified himself not with the
temple, but as the temple. In so doing, Jesus indicated a dramatic shift in what it means to worship God, to be in God’s
presence. No longer was a place to be the focus of prayer. Instead, a person, the person of Jesus Christ, becomes the
center of our worship.
ST. MAURICE PASTORAL COUNCIL: meets this coming Monday, November 10, at 7:45 PM
(after the 7:00 PM Mass) in the Lawrence Room. As you may recall, our Parish Pastoral Council
envisions the mission of the Parish and seeks to identify ways to live that mission throughout Parish life.
They have worked to complete a new mission statement and are currently working on a new vision statement for the
Parish that will lead to a new Parish Pastoral Plan.
THE BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN FAMILIES MISSION: would like to expr ess humble
appreciation for allowing us to visit your Church on the weekend of October 25 & 26. With your
kindness and through the generosity of your parishioners, the sales of the olive wood carvings received
a total amount of $2,307. It was really a great excitement for us to observe so many kind people at your
Parish who were interested in our religious articles, and some expressed their intention to visit the Holy Land when
the peace prevails. Please remember that the members of your Parish are included in our prayers. May you enjoy
God’s many glorious blessings.

DANCE AND SOCIAL FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES: is Thursday, November 13, from
7:00-9:00 PM in Keane Hall. Any parishioner with special needs who would like to attend should call the
Parish Center Office at 412-271-0809. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $5 per person. Each guest
must be accompanied by a caregiver. The cost is the same for the caregiver. You may pay at the door.
MORNING OF REFLECTION/DISCUSSION: meets this Tuesday, November 11, at 9:30 AM in the
Lawrence Room of the Parish Center. This year we are reflecting on Catholic social teaching by
discussing the seven themes presented by the United States Catholic Bishops Conference. This month we
will look at the second theme: “Call to Family, Community and Participation” and a couple saints that exemplify
these themes. Join us. Refreshments are served.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS: The Inquiry Period continues and this week we will be
discussing the basic textbook of the process: the Bible.

ST. MAURICE'S YOUNG ADULT GROUP, 21+: will meet on Monday, November 10, at 7:45 PM.

2015 MASS INTENTION REQUESTS:
To make the process of requesting Mass Intentions much easier and more accurate, the procedure will be the same
as last year. On the day that the 2015 Mass Book is opened, we ask that you have the form, which is available in
the back of Church and the Parish Center Office, filled out completely and bring it to the Lawrence Room in the
Parish Center, from 9:30 AM until Noon, on Saturday, November 15, 2014. The stipend for the Masses should
accompany your request form. As you wait in line the Masses will be entered into the book enabling you to
obtain the dates you request, or give you a chance to pick an alternate date, if necessary. If you would like to
carry the gifts for Masses for your loved ones, during the 5:00 PM Saturday or Sunday Masses, please indicate
that when the Mass is scheduled in the book. Each family can request a total of 5 Masses, 4 Masses will be placed
in the book, (only 1 weekend day will be permitted); the additional 1 Mass will be placed in our alternate book.
Those Masses will be used as fill-ins during the year; or as Diocesan rules state, since Masses must be said within
one year, they may be sent to Missions or other Churches that are in need of Mass requests. Any Mass Intentions
which have already been received or will be received in the mail or in person will be placed in the book on a
first-come, first-served basis, after all Masses have been entered on the opening day. Hopefully, this will be a
much better way to fulfill our Mass Intentions.
THE ST. MAURICE MUSIC MINISTRY: will host its annual Cabaret Night on Saturday,
November 22. Cocktail hour will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM with entertainment to follow.
Tickets are available after all Masses and are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Admission price
includes hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine. Please join us for a night of fun and frivolity!
FOCUS GROUP OF THE WEEK: ST. MAURICE PARISH LADIES OF CHARITY: Ladies of
Charity (LOC) is a national organization whose motto is “To serve rather than be served in humility,
simplicity, and charity.” Our local St. Maurice Parish Ladies of Charity began in 1982 with six members
invested. Today this number has increased to 30 members (28 active and 2 inactive). Our group meets in
the Parish Center eight months of the year, on the second Monday of the month at 7:35 PM following 7:00 PM
Mass. We do not meet in January, June, July, or August. Our purpose here at St. Maurice, in compliance with the
national organization motto, is to provide charitable, corporal, and spiritual works of mercy for the ill, the poor, and
the disadvantaged in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. In order
to carry out this mission in our Parish and in the surrounding community, we are involved in many activities
throughout the year. This involvement includes Funeral Home and Cemetery Visits; Resurrection Choir and Grief
Ministry; Greeting Cards to shut-ins and senior citizens; Prayer Shawl Ministry; Communion, Rosary and
Visitations at Juniper Village and Sarah’s Place; Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank; Special Needs Mass
and Dance; Monthly Tea at Centurion Commons; First Friday Eucharistic Adoration; Financial Assistance to
community organizations and/or groups whose mission is to help those less fortunate; Cookies for Prisoners at the
Allegheny Co. Jail; Literacy Program at East Catholic School; Homebound Eucharistic Ministers, and assistance
with various Parish activities as needed. We are always looking to increase our membership and invite you to join
