We are His eyes, ears, hands and voice on Earth. By giving of our “first fruits” of our time, talent and treasure we help fulfill God’s call. Are you doing all you can to help? Do you spend time in prayer every day? Do you participate in one of the many parish ministries? Do you give generously in the offertory collection each week? Did you know? The offertory trend at Sacred Heart has declined by 11% in the past 5 years whereas our expenses have increased by 5%. In the same time frame the inflation on average in the US has risen by 8.2%. The November, Msgr. Condon Council #3805 Knights of Columbus newsletter is available in the back of Church for members and potential members. Individuals who wish to learn about becoming a Knights of Columbus member may contact Membership Director Paul Quigley at 608-393-1623. If you have any questions, call Deacon Ron at 524-4187. St. Vincent de Paul says, “What do you think is the meaning of adoring God? It is to render Him the homage that belongs to Him alone, and to acknowledge that He is your Creator and Sovereign Lord.” The next meeting is December 2nd at 7:30 p.m. at the Parish Office. PASTORAL MINISTRY – Deacon Tom Hale Reflection: "We do not come to church to attend the service as a spectator, but in order, along with the priest, to serve God. Everything we do—our entering, being present, our kneeling and sitting and standing, our reception of the sacred nourishment—should be divine service. This is so only when all we do overflows from the awareness of a collected heart and the mind’s attentiveness."— Fr. Romano Guardini Something else to ponder "Often, actually very often, God allows his greatest servants, those who are far advanced in grace, to make the most humiliating mistakes. This humbles them in their own eyes and in the eyes of their fellow men."— St. Louis de Montfort "Never say, 'What great things the saints do,' but,' What great things God does in His saints.'"— St. Philip Neri SACRED HEART SCHOOL -Mike Rocha LITURGY - Mary Williams / Angela Miller Why a Catholic Education is Important for Middle School Students Who brings up the gifts at Mass? The gift bearers are usually the families of the person named in the Mass intention. If you look at the weekly parish bulletin, you will see the Mass intention next to the Mass schedule on the far left side of the inside page. When it says "any parish family," then anyone may bring up the gifts. On those days, you can ask the head usher (listed on the ministry schedule with an “H”) if your family can bring up the gifts. You can also tell the head usher that your family would be willing to take up the gifts if the family scheduled does not show. A Catholic education uses the greatest resources, namely God Himself, to create a foundation strong enough for each student to succeed in school and in life. We believe that Sacred Heart School offers a greater challenge for students because we set our goals high. With tall standards, a strong foundation in faith, and support from family and faculty, our students thrive beyond their education and develop an unmatched work ethic. At Sacred Heart School we not only develop to be academically strong, but we foster leaders of the future by establishing service projects, having a family-orientated school community, and providing the individualized needs of each one of our students through smaller classroom settings. An education at Sacred Heart School instills a deep love for the Lord that encourages each young learner’s growth in esteem, respect for others, and the ability to achieve. FAITH FORMATION - Brittany Schoeder Please pray for all of our students in sacramental preparation this year, especially our Confirmation students as they will be on retreat November 15th. All middle school students are invited to a Progressive Dinner on Sunday, November 23 from 5-8:30 pm. We will first meet at Sacred Heart and end the night at St. John’s. Do you love coffee and Jesus? JUSTICE & PEACE [A JOINT EFFORT OF OUR CLUSTER PARISHES] The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops works “to apply Catholic social teaching to the promotion and development of public policy that strengthens and builds resilient families and communities. This includes advocacy on behalf of the poor and vulnerable on a range of matters related to human dignity, family life, the dignity of work and workers, poverty elimination, access to adequate nutrition and health care, and the integrity of creation.” (USCCB web site) This advocacy is also our work.
