The Swiss Embassy in Colombia is responsible for issuing short stay visas for its consular circumscription and
additionally for Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago
REQUIREMENTS for FAMILY RE-UNIFICATION VISAS (spouse and children)
- National visa DAll visa applications will be processed PERSONALLY at the Swiss Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia.
Exception: the residents of the islands, Guyana and Suriname can send their documents by courier ( FEDEX, DHL or
similar) and in advance by fax or e-mail to check them before sending.
FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS have to be submitted in order to apply for a visa:
Three (3) forms of “Application for long stay visa (visa D)” duly filled out and signed, which can be downloaded
and filled out on-line through following link:

4 recent passport-size photographs (size: 35x45mm), white background (according to Schengen criteria)

National passport (valid three months beyond the planned stay)
- According to your family status, please choose the appropriate case and send required documents –original and copyPlease also note that ALL notarised and civil status documents must be legalised with an Apostille and
translated into one of the 3 Swiss national languages (German, French or Italian)
A)
For a foreigner living abroad, MARRIED TO A SWISS NATIONAL

Personal letter signed by the Swiss spouse requesting a family re-unification visa, copy of passport
- if the marriage took place in Switzerland > copy of the Swiss family certificate
- if the marriage took place in one of the Islands, Guyana or Suriname:
- and is already registered in Switzerland > please contact this Embassy
- and is not yet registered in Switzerland: > please see the leaflet “marriage between Swiss nationals and
citizens of the Islands, Guyana and Suriname”
- Certificate of no criminal record (no more than 6 months old), legalized with an Apostille and translated into a
Swiss national language (German, French or Italian)
B)
For a foreigner living abroad, MARRIED TO A FOREIGN NATIONAL who is living legally in Switzerland

Personal letter signed by the foreign national requesting a family re-unification visa, copy of passport and Permit
- if the marriage took place in Switzerland > copy of the Swiss marriage certificate
- if the marriage took place in one of the Islands, Guyana or Suriname > originals of birth and marriage certificates
- Certificate of no criminal record (no more than 6 months old), legalized with an Apostille and translated into a
Swiss national language (German, French or Italian)
C)
For MINORS
- Personal letter requesting a family re-unification visa, copy of passport and –if not Swiss national- copy of Permit
- Original of birth certificate
- Official document showing which of the parents has the parental rights (in case of divorce)
- Authorisation to travel (notarised or judicial document)
- Copy of the Swiss residence/work Permit of mother or father; should the father or mother be married in Switzerland,
the marriage registration or residences permit of the spouse

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- The complete application forms will be transmitted to the responsible Cantonal Migration office for a decision
- An entry visa will only be issued once the application has been approved and the relevant authorization has
arrived from Switzerland
- In any case, it is NOT allowed to enter Switzerland before getting the necessary visa
- This procedure usually takes about 12 weeks
- In case of application finally being rejected or withdrawn the fee is not reimbursed
