WALSH: Walsh (3-6) returns to action with a
non-conference home game against Glenville
State College (4-5) at 11am at Fawcett
Stadium.
Walsh a first down at the NMU 43-yard line. A
huge pass interference call on NMU followed
on the next play giving Walsh first and ten at
the NMU 42.
1-0 IN DOME: Walsh scored 21 fourth quarter
points to register a 27-24 come-from-behind
win at Northern Michigan’s Superior Dome last
Saturday. It was Walsh’s first Dome game.
Luke Lloyd then rushed for 15 yards on two
runs to the Wildcat 27 yard-line, and Fracassa
then found Anthony Schrock for an 18-yard
gain to the NMU nine. After Fracassa gained
three yards on first down, Aaron Male scored
on a six-yard run with 56 seconds to play.
Dudics point after gave Walsh a 27-24 lead.
FIELD GOALS: Two Michael Dudics field
goals (22, 43 yards) were all the Cavs could
muster as they trailed 17-6 heading into the
fourth quarter.

ROLLER COASTER: The fourth quarter was
a roller coaster ride for the Cavs. Trailing 17-6,
Walsh put together back-to-back scoring
drives to take a 20-17 lead with 5:43 to play.
Kalvin Gordon scored on a one-yard run at
9:13 to pull the Cavs to within five points at 17
-12. Walsh’s two-point try failed.
CJ Chatman then intercepted a Wildcat pass
at the NMU 26-yard line to set-up the Cavs
next score. The Cavs drove 23 yards in three
plays and took the lead with Jason Fracassa
connected with Jerald Robinson for a six-yard
TD. The two then hooked up again for the twopoint conversion to give the Cavs a 20-17 lead
with 5:43 to play.
14 SECONDS: That’s how long Walsh’s 20-17
lasted as the Wildcats’ Keshawn Walker
returned the ensuing kick-off 100 yards for a
score to give NMU a 24-20 lead with 5:29 left.
NO SWEAT: Walsh then put together their
most clutch drive of the season going 68 yards
in nine plays to regain the lead.
After a one-yard run, Fracassa hit three
straight passes, the last a five-yard pass to
Blake Williams on fourth and four to give
MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH: Northern
Michigan came up short by two inches on the
last drive of the game on the Walsh 38-yard
line on a fourth down play. Their drive started
on their own 38-yard line.
BALL CONTROL: Walsh did a good job of
managing the clock as they held the football
for 32:43.
CLEAN: Walsh had just one penalty for 15
yards, while the Wildcats were penalized
seven times for 59 yards.
BALANCE: Walsh rushed for 140 yards and
passed for 159 yards. The Cavs picked-up
seven first downs on the ground and nine
through the air.
SETTLING IN: Justin Fracassa played well for
the second straight week completing 17-31
passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. He
was four for five on Walsh’s game-winning
drive.
SCHROCK, ROBINSON BIG: Anthony
Schrock had his best game of the year with
six catches for 69 yards. Jerald Robinson
caught four passes for 52 yards and Aaron
Male had four catches. Male caught two
passes on Walsh’s winning drive and Schrock
had an 18-yard reception. Robinson caught
his team-leading eighth touchdown pass.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Walsh’s special teams
played a big role in the road win. Tim Carter
punted six times for a 41.3 average with three
punts inside the 20-yard line. Jamaris Brown
returned a kick-off 70 yards.
TRUDELL ON THE BALL: Linebacker
Cameron Trudell led Walsh with ten tackles,
three for a loss, last week and has averaged
10.8 per game the last five games. He leads
the team with 72 tackles.
TIMES
TWO:
Walsh registered two
interceptions in a single game for the first time
this season. C.J. Chatman and Justin Turner
each picked-off Wildcat passes.
TONN STILL OUT: Quarterback Brody Tonn
will be sidelined for the fifth straight game with
turf-toe, suffered at Findlay on October 11.
WEARSCH, BAILEY, GARY DONE FOR
YEAR: Starting offensive lineman Pete
Wearsch, defensive lineman Dylan Bailey and
wide receiver Darryl Gary are all lost for the
season. Wearsch is suffering from a neck
injury and Bailey and Gary both from knee
injuries.
GLIAC LEADERS: Jamaris Brown is first in
kick return average (30.2). Jerald Robinson is
tied for second with eight touchdown
receptions. Tim Carter is third in punting
(39.5). Aaron Male is ninth in rushing yards
per carry (5.8). Cameron Trudell is tied for
tenth in tackles (62).
STOP THE BLEEDING: The Cavs snapped a
seven game road losing streak with their win
at Northern Michigan.
MORNING TIME: This is Walsh’s only 11am
game of the season, and first since they faced
Trinity in 2010. Walsh is 16-4 all-time in 11am
games.
LET’S STREAK: Walsh looks for its first twogame win streak since the 2011 season.
Walsh’s last back-to-back wins were against
Concordia and Quincy, when they closed the
season on a three-game winning streak.
GLENVILLE STATE: Glenville (4-5) had their
three-game winning streak snapped 37-14 at
Shepherd University last Saturday.
The Pioneers
possession
would
take
the
opening
possession and drive it 87 yards on nine plays
as Sean Steele hit tight-end Jake Harper from
19 yards out for the touchdown as Glenville
State went up 7-0.
With Glenville trailing 10-7, they would suffer a
big loss as quarterback Sean Steele would
leave, not to return to the game, due to an
ankle injury.
Shepherd would add another score right
before halftime as the Rams took a 17-7 lead
over the Pioneers into the locker room.
In the second half, it would be all Shepherd as
they would add a touchdown in the third
quarter and score two more touchdowns in the
fourth as the Rams held a 37-7 lead. The
Pioneers however would add a late score as
backup quarterback Dante Roberts hit Ralph
Gordon on a 50 yard touchdown pass as the
Pioneers would fall, 37-14.
Glenville State racked up 324 yards of total
offense on 70 plays while Shepherd ran 53
plays for 345 total yards. The Pioneers won
the time of possession as they held it for 32:38
while the Rams time of possession was 27:22.
GSC’s Rahmann Lee led the Pioneers rushing
attack with 65 yards on 16 carries.
Quarterback Sean Steele went 9 for 15 for 91
yards a touchdown and an interception before
leaving the game due to the ankle injury.
Backup quarterback Dante Roberts went 17
for 27 for 183 yards a touchdown and an
interception.
Dante Absher was the teams leading receiver
as he caught nine passes for 78 yards while
Ralph Gordon caught six balls for 85 yards
and a touchdown.
Gary Henderson led the Pioneers defense
with nine tackles on the day while James
Johnson chipped in with six tackles.
SERIES: This is the second meeting between
the two teams. Glenville defeated Walsh 3321 in West Virginia last year. Glenville scored
14 second quarter points to take a 26-10
halftime lead which the Cavs could not
overcome.
Matt Matuska returned a kick-off 92 yards for
a TD after Glenville took a 6-0 lead. Jason
Fracassa passed for 191 yards to for Walsh.

DID YOU KNOW: Ted Karras’ father, Ted
Karras Sr., was a member of the 1963 NFL
champion Chicago Bears and played pro
football from 1958-1966. He played with the
Steelers (1958-59), Bears (1960-64), Lions
(1965) and Rams (1966). Ted’s uncle’s, Alex
Karras, played his entire career with the Lions
(1958-70), and Lou Karras played with the
Redskins (1950-52). Ted, Jr., played one year
in the NFL, with the Redskins (1987).
20th YEAR: This is the 20th season of Walsh
University Football. The Cavs put together 12
straight winning seasons to start the program.
Their first losing season was in 2007.
Overall the Cavs have posted 14 winning
seasons and have an all-time record of 12591.
HOME WINS: The Cavs have an all-time
home mark of 65-45, with 15 winning seasons
at home. The Cavs are 60-37 at Fawcett
Stadium, where they started play in 1997. The

WINNING
The 2012 season was Karras’ fifth winning season
in six years, as his Knights earned the program's first NAIA
National Championship. Marian won its second consecutive MidStates Football Association Mideast League championship and
finished the regular season 8-1 and 12-1 overall. Marian defeated
Morningside College 30-27 in overtime in the title game. His 2012
team placed 26 players on the All-MSFA Team, with eight earning
first team accolades. Karras earned AFCA NAIA Region ll Coach
of the Year honors for the second straight season. The Knights
spent five weeks as the top ranked team in the NAIA, and were
ranked in the top ten the entire season. In the final poll released
December 18, the Knights were No. 1.
In 2011, Karras directed Marian to its first MSFA Mideast
League championship after its first perfect 10-0 regular season
and was named MSFA Mideast Coach of the Year. Marian started
the season ranked sixth and spent five weeks, until the national
semifinals, as the nation's No. 1-ranked team. The team finished
the season 12-1 and closed the year as the third-ranked team in
the NAIA.
At Marian, 51 Knights earned All-MSFA Mideast League
honors, a school record, with 22 of those players earning first
team honors. He also earned American Football Monthly NAIA
National Coach of the Year honors. Assistant Coach Martin
Mathis was named MSFA Mideast League Assistant Coach of the
Year as well. He also coached the 2011 MSFA MEL Player of the
Year in Dustin Craig, who also was named the program's second
AFCA-NAIA First Team All-American.
In 2010, Marian produced the program's third straight winning season, earned their first-ever 10-win season, and garnered their first-ever top 10 ranking in the NAIA Football Coaches' Poll. The culmination of the greatest season in the program's
history came on November 14, 2010 when Marian University
was selected to play in the NAIA Football Championship Series
for the first time in school history. The Knights, ranked 11th at
the time, defeated eighth-ranked Ottawa University by a 35-20
score to earn their first-ever postseason victory. MU fell to eventual national champion Carroll College after a trip to the mountains in Helena, Montana. They finished the 2010-11 year as the
sixth-ranked team in the nation.
The 2009 season was the program's second straight winning
season as it earned a 6-5 record. Marian defeated the University
of St. Francis (Ill.) on a last-second field goal to earn its first-ever
season-opening win. The Knights also opened a new stadium,
St. Vincent Health Field, with a 34-16 win over Grand View,
which finished the season ranked in the top
25. The season culminated with the program's first-ever AFCANAIA All-America selection in the graduated

Karras guided the Knights to their first-ever winning season at 7-4 in just
the second season of the programs existence. The Knights also earned
votes in the NAIA Top 25 for the first time and defeated 25th-ranked
McKendree, 28-21, on the road for their first-ever road win and their firstever win over a ranked opponent.
STARTING BLOCKS
The inaugural season yielded the team's firstever victory, an MSFA All-Mideast second team selection, an MSFA AllAcademic team selection, and four MSFA All-Mideast honorable mentions.
The Knights finished 1-9 in their first-ever season.
INDIANA
A northwest Indiana native, Karras came to Marian University
after three seasons at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Under his
tutelage, the Fighting Engineer program was revitalized with shocking
victories over DePauw University, Washington University and the program's
first victory at Rhodes College in Memphis since 1971. He posted a pair
of .500 (5-5) records in two of his first three seasons, the first since 1995.
During his time at RHIT, his players excelled in both football and
academics. He had two Academic All-Americans, 13 All-Conference performers, and the first All-American defensive lineman in
school history. He also coached the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2004. Karras went 14-16 with RHIT, the best three-year
record of any coach, and was named one of the "10 Hottest Coaches in Division III" by American Football Monthly.
For four years prior to RHIT, Karras was the offensive coordinator at MSFA foe St. Xavier University, and was part of an MSFA
Midwest League championship and NAIA playoff-qualifier in 2002.
REBUILDING
Prior to SXU, Karras served as the head coach at Andrean High School in Gary, Ind., from 1996-98. Karras rebuilt
a program that had never won a regional championship. During his tenure, Andrean won three sectional and two regional
championships and earned a berth in the state championship game. Karras amassed a 30-10 overall record and was named the
Indiana Football Coaches' Association Regional Coach of the Year in 1997 and 1998.
He also served as defensive line coach at St. Francis College from 1995-96 and defensive coordinator at Lake Forest College from
1993-95. Karras served as a defensive line graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University in 1992-93 and as a graduate assistant at
the University of Minnesota from 1991-92. His coaching experience began as a defensive line coach for Kankakee Valley High School
in 1989.
NORTHWESTERN
Karras was a four-year starter at Northwestern University
from 1983-87 and earned his bachelor of science from Northwestern in 1987. His
playing career continued as he signed with the Washington Redskins as a free agent
and spent one season with the Redskins.
RICH BLOODLINE
Coach Karras' bloodline is football-rich; his father, Ted Sr.,
played for the George Halas-led Chicago Bears from 1960-64. His uncle, the late
Alex Karras, played 13 seasons with the Detroit Lions (1958-71) and earned All-Big
Ten honors at the University of Iowa.
FAMILY
Karras and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Taylor, a senior honors
student at Indianapolis Cathedral, and Teddy, who is a junior offensive lineman at the
University of Illinois. Teddy is the seventh member of the Karras family to play
football in the Big Ten Conference.
