Shameful to hurl accusations at ‘waqf’ sector: Al-Sane
Kuwait committed to monitor ‘organizations’ finances
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: Kuwait is
committed to monitor the finances of
charitable organizations to guard
against funds getting into the hands of
extremists, Al-Rai daily quoting
Yaqoub Al-Sane, the Minister of
Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Justice.
In a statement at the 60th anniversary of Algeria’s revolution, Al-Sane
said “it is shameful to hurl accusations
‘’waqf’’ (endowment) sector before
seeking clarity”. He added solutions
are in place to counter social violence
and alleged violations detected in the
activities of the Ministries of Justice
and Awqaf.
Meanwhile, sources close to the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied
recent news published by a US newspaper about Kuwait’s involvement in
the military coalition with Egypt,
Saudi Arabia and UAE against
extremist groups in the Middle East,
and the country intervening in some
conflict-hit areas in the region.
The sources said the current coalition which involves several countries
was announced—as published by AlRai newspaper about Kuwait acting as
headquarters of the military coalition
established to fight the Islamist group
known DAESH.
As regards the nature of the headquarters, sources said it’ll become the
coordination center of operation where
control and supervision of the field
plans will be done.

stopped the work and breached the contract after the company started the project and spent a huge amount on it.

Kuwaiti figure honored with maritime award in Dubai
Sheikh Dr Sabah Al-Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah
was honored with the Maritime Standard
Hall of Fame Award at the Seatrade Middle
East and Indian Subcontinent Awards’
event which was held in Dubai.
After the honoring ceremony, Sheikh Dr
Sabah Al-Jaber, Director General of the
Arab Sea Ports Federation, told KUNA
Saturday that he dedicated this win to the
Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA), adding that
he was honored to have received the
award which highlights Kuwait’s efforts
within the maritime domain.
The Kuwaiti official also stressed the
importance of maritime activities in bolstering ties among nations, noting that working
at the sea provided many opportunities for
the people of the world to extend their
hands in cooperation and friendship.
The Seatrade Middle East and Indian
Subcontinent Awards is an annual event
held in Dubai where individuals and companies working within the maritime field are

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8:
Talks on the privatization
of the educational system
in Kuwait have resurfaced
as decision-makers deemed
it necessary for the country
to develop the educational
sector and get rid of financial and management blunders at the Ministry of
Education.
According to sources, the proposed privatization of the educational system was presented in the
past, but it has been swept under
the rug due to political pressure
from those who opposed it.
Sources said the proposal will be
presented again to the Council of
Ministers soon.
Sources affirmed a preliminary
decree will most likely be issued to
implement the proposal in some
schools on an experimental basis. If
the experiment is successful, the government will refer the proposal to the
Parliament for approval within the current legislative term, sources added.
Clarified
Sources clarified the privatization
of Kuwait’s educational system does
not mean those studying in public
schools will be required to pay their
tuition fees, which will remain the
responsibility of the government; but
the teachers must abide by the current
working terms and regulations in the
private sector.
Furthermore, State Minister for
Housing Affairs Yasser Abul confirmed
the ministry will soon receive land in
South Sabah Al-Ahmed from the Kuwait
Municipality to be added to the plots
which will be distributed to citizens.
Commenting on the issue, Head of
the Family and Children Committee
MP Saleh Ashour asserted the current
scheme for the distribution of houses
excludes women, so he urged the government to include them for they are
part of the Kuwaiti public.
He pointed out that although the government, headed by the ministry, is doing
a great job in solving the housing issue,
the Parliament will not tolerate any form
of negligence in addressing problems of
citizens. He stressed the committee will
soon take action to ensure that women
are included in the distribution.
The MP further clarified that the
Kuwaiti woman, whether divorced or
widowed from a Kuwaiti or a nonKuwaiti husband, has yet to benefit
from the Housing Law passed in the
previous term; asserting any layer of
the Kuwaiti society should not be
excluded from the law.
In another development, MP
Khaleel Al-Saleh criticized the recent
recruitment at Kuwait Airways
Corporation, claiming the board of
directors did not prioritize Kuwaitis as
it employed expatriates instead.
The honorary treasurer of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Saud Al-Humaidhi received in his
office the Deputy Chairperson of Korean International Trade Association (KITA) Hyun-ho Ahn and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, which was also attended by the South Korean Ambassador to Kuwait Shin
Boonam, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which reflects the keenness of the Kuwait’s
private sector to cement and enhance economic relations with South Korea especially since KITA is currently
involved in several major projects in the country.
He argued the Constitution clearly
stipulates that Kuwaitis must be prioritized in the employment process, but
the management renewed contracts of
non-Kuwaiti pilots and signed con-
tracts with a number of new pilots
although a large number of Kuwaiti
pilots have applied.
This has prompted the MP to submit
a number of queries, asking about rea-
sons behind this action. He also
requested for details about nonKuwaiti employees hired recently and
the exact number of Kuwaitis who
applied but were rejected.
