PASTOR’S COLUMN
DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA IN ROME
9 November, 2014
As each diocese must celebrate the anniversary of the
dedication day of its cathedral church, so the Church
throughout the world celebrates the dedication of the
cathedral church of the Holy Father. It is yet another
opportunity for us to remember the Church is about living
stones, not just the bricks and mortar that make up a
building. It is a moment for us all to remember that Church
isn’t just about “us.” We are not a community closed in on
itself. To do this is to wither and to die. We are called to
go out on mission to preach the Gospel to the ends of the
earth.
Church becomes the springboard to that
community: nourished by the Word of God and the
Sacraments, sustained by the community of believers, we
are called to build up the community of all God’s people
until God is all in all. Hearing that call to preach the
Gospel to the ends of the earth, Bishop Sullivan has asked
that all parishes observe National Vocations Awareness
week this week, and to pray especially for an increase in
vocations to the priesthood and to the religious life.
Bishop Sullivan emphasizes the need for priestly vocations
in our own Diocese of Camden. Included with the Sunday
Bulletin is a card with a prayer for vocations on it. Please
pray that prayer daily, especially this week, mindful of the
need for good priests to serve the Gospel here in the
Diocese of Camden. If you know someone who is thinking
of the Priesthood, ask them to call one of the parish priests
or Father Michael Romano, Diocesan Vocation Director, at
856-583-2864.
The Fabulous Christmas 50/50 Raffle Tickets have been
mailed out. If you did not receive yours, please let the
Parish Office know (856-691-9077). If you are in need of
more tickets, they are available at the Rectory Monday
through Friday, 9AM– 4PM.
Thanks to everyone who took part in last year’s raffle. The
first prize was almost $12,750.00!!! Remember – the
more tickets sold, the bigger the prize, so let’s work
together once again to make this year’s Raffle even more
successful! The 50/50 drawing will be held in the
Gathering Space on Saturday, December 20 at 6PM.
Please be sure to return your Raffle tickets to the Rectory
office or place them in the collection basket at Mass. All
tickets must be returned by 4PM on December 20.
Remember - the more tickets sold
the bigger the cash prize!

DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA IN ROME
First Reading: Ezekiel 47:1-2, 8-9, 12
This reading from the Prophet Ezekiel tells of the streaming,
healing waters that flow from the temple. These waters restore
life to the river’s inhabitants as well as the fruit bearing trees
along its banks. It is believed that the water signifies blessings,
whereas the lack of signifies trouble, hardship.
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:9c-11, 16-17
Paul compares us to a building whose foundation has been laid
by Jesus. As the people of God, we can only be solid if we are
grounded in Christ.
Gospel: John 2:13-22
Near the time of Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem and saw
the temple had become a marketplace. He became angry and
proceeded to drive out the vendors and livestock. Jesus spoke of
destroying the temple and rebuilding it in three days. The Jews
did not know Jesus was speaking of his body, but when his
resurrection from the dead came to pass, his disciples
remembered what Jesus had said and came to believe the
Scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.

Pre K – 8th Grade
Principal : Dr. Patrice DeMartino
Fifth Grade at Bishop Schad is a year of many
changes. Mrs. Kopp’s fifth graders are leaning
to organize their material in order to switch
classes effectively. In religion class the
students are learning to pray the Rosary. Each
day the students lead the class in praying a
decade of the Rosary. We are also learning
about how we meet Jesus in the Sacraments.
Fifth grade Social Studies class is focused on
the regions of the United States. This year of
change is already becoming more routine for
the students.
