California/Nevada Amphibian Populations Task Force 2015 Meeting
Announcing the California/Nevada Amphibian Populations Task Force 2015 Meeting -To be held at- Pendleton Learning Center, Room 125 Pepperdine University 24255 Pacific Coast Highway Malibu, California 90263 January 8 - 9, 2015 With Field Trip on Saturday, January 10 Special Session: Amphibian (and Amphibious Reptile) Road Ecology Because many amphibians move slowly and utilize both water sources and adjacent lands for their life cycle, they are one of the most vulnerable taxonomic groups to road mortality. Results of existing studies and new studies are being used to create a Best Management Practices manual for locating, designing, constructing, and maintaining wildlife passages for sensitive amphibian species on highway projects in California. This session will include guest speakers and contributed papers. Guest Speakers: Tony Clevenger, with nearly 20 years of experience in the field of road ecology, Tony has led or co-authored several major Federal Highway Administration publications and BMPs on mitigating wildlife transportation conflicts in addition to publishing over 50 scientific works on the topic. Tom Langton, a world-renowned expert in researching innovative and cost-effective crossing designs for amphibians and reptiles on four continents. He has been involved in over 80 road mitigation projects involving amphibians and reptiles since 1984. Meeting Sponsors We thank Pepperdine University for providing the venue and donating most of the on-campus costs of the meeting. We thank the Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy for facilitating registration.
