The Candidates for Associate Pastor
An Update From the Call Committee:
The call committee has invited three candidates to spend part of a weekend in
Kansas City getting to know Trinity's staff, touring the campuses, and meeting
members of the congregation. The candidates will each be worshiping at both
campuses during their visits, and we encourage you to take a minute to meet
them.
The three candidates, and the dates they will be worshiping with us are; Pastor
John Merrill (November 9), Pastor Phillip Cook (November 23), and Pastor
Luke Timm (December 7).
Please continue to keep the work of the call committee in your prayers.

Benjamin Vineyard and Seminary Enrollment
Back in August I shared with you that Ben Vineyard would be entering the Specific Ministry
Pastor Program (SMP) of our Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). I asked Ben to
share with you more about this wonderful opportunity. Please see his letter below.

Dear Trinity,
I’m going to be a seminary student this winter and the greatest joy about it is that I get to
stay with you as I study.
The program is called the Specific Ministry Pastor program (SMP). It started in 2007 when
the LCMS announced an alternative route for pastoral education. I will be studying through
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. The process begins February 2014 (yes, the same month
Jenny and I are expecting our new baby boy, but I assure you she is excited about this too).
The SMP process is a distance education experience with a few week-long intensives at the
seminary in St. Louis. The program is strong in on-the-ground pastoral training mixed with
book and class study. These are done through internet dialog, writing, and on-campus
intensives.
Pastor Mark will be my on-site supervisor and will help shape this experience at Trinity. I
consider myself blessed to work through this with him. I’m also blessed to have many other
pastors who serve or have served at Trinity as possible helpers in this journey.
It was conversation in previous call processes that led to this decision. People graciously said,
“Ben seems wired for more of a pastoral role at Trinity.” We talked and considered what this
could mean for Trinity and my family. We’ve discerned it means good things. This can be a
blessing to Trinity in training another person to participate in the pastoral roles at Trinity,
lending a hand to Pastor Mark, Pastor Ron, and the associate pastor we are currently praying
for, hoping to call. It will also be a blessing to me for I too have felt this nudge since I was a
high schooler, even when I took Greek and Hebrew in Concordia Seward’s Pre-Seminary
program. I am wired for this. I believe that. And I look forward to the formation and
experience.
So, beginning February 2015, I’ll be “Vicar Ben.” And I’ll be a vicar for two years. After two
years of study, I become eligible for ordination. From then, I’ll be “Pastor Ben.” Two more
years will finish the first part of this program, making it a four-year process. But there’s an
additional two year option which leads to a Masters of Divinity (M.Div.), which is what your
traditional LCMS pastor leaves the seminary with.

Trinity Book and Gift Shop Bringing Christmas Gift Items to Shawnee
November 9th, 8:30 - 12:30 - Trinity Book and Gift Shop will be going on the road and
bringing some Christmas and gift items out to the Shawnee campus for your shopping
pleasure. Please join us for refreshments, fellowship, and some early Christmas shopping.
Trinity Book and Gift Shop Christmas Open House (Mission Campus)
November 16th, 8:30 - 12:30 - Trinity Book and Gift Shop will be hosting a Christmas Open
House at the Mission campus. Please stop by the library for refreshments and check out our
new Christmas and gift items.
Usher groups, a time-honored service organization, are in need of more members at the
Mission campus. All of the Sunday services (8:30, 9:45 and 11am) could use more team
members. The usher teams for each service are divided into two groups, A and B. Each group
is assigned in a pattern of two weeks “on” and two weeks “off” throughout the year. Both
men and women can be valued members of an usher team. If interested, please see or call

Coffee and Tea Sale
Lutheran World Relief coffee and tea sale will be held at the
Mission Campus between worship services on Sunday,
November 9. Be sure to stop by the table and select from the
wide variety of flavors available for all of your holiday
entertaining and gift-giving needs. Selected varieties are also
available for purchase in the gift shop between regularly
scheduled sale dates.
The large purple and white mite box will be available on the coffee table to deposit your loose
change. One of the mission projects being supported by your donations is Voice of Care
Ministry to the Developmentally Challenged. Learn more about this project from the poster
behind the mite box. Thank you for your support .

Candy Sale to Benefit the MLM Christmas Store
Do you love the candy sold at the MLM Spring Fling every year? You don't have to
wait until next March! This famous candy will be sold at Colonial Church 7039
Mission Road in Prairie Village on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 10:00 am3:00 pm and on Sunday, November 16, 11:00 am-1 pm. All proceeds from this
candy sale benefit MLM Christmas Store and Thrivent is providing matching
funds! Let your chocolate addiction help others during this Christmas season!!
The young adult ministry FellowShipmates will meet on Thursday, November 13 at 6:30
pm in the Adult Lounge on the Mission campus for a Thanksgiving potluck! A sign-up sheet
for dishes to bring will be available by email or on our Facebook group page. Please join us
as this is our last event until we reconvene in mid-January after the holidays!
The Audio Visual team at the Mission campus is in need of volunteers to assist with running
the equipment for services. Training will be provided.

Bethany Lutheran Gym, just east of Metcalf, one of the
main commercial avenues in Overland Park. Come play
the "Prize Walk" game plus much more! Concessions are
available and sponsored by the 7th grade classes of
Bethany and Christ Lutheran Schools . Booth rental and
concession profits support the 7th and 8th grade service
and education class trips.

Christmas in the City
LUMA Christmas Store is scheduled for Dec 9-12
with set up Dec 6-8. This is an annual event held at
the LUMA Ministry Center, 3007 Mercier in
KCMO. During the Store about 300 families (1300
individuals) are served. You're invited to help
make Christmas in the City a reality as we share the
love of Jesus and help others celebrate the birth of

Advice & Aid Pregnancy Centers, Inc. is in need of volunteers and will be offering a

Learning to Earning Plans
Ribbon Cutting for KCK Opening
Metro Lutheran Ministry will formally
open a new branch of its Learning to
Earning program at 750 Armstrong
Avenue in downtown Kansas City, Ks.,
with a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Monday,
Nov. 17.
The Learning to Earning program has
been very successful serving the
community from MLM’s Central offices
at 3031 Holmes, Kansas City. The new
location will allow access for more
residents in need and expanded
services.
Learning to Earning is designed to help participants manage their lives and solve the problems that
many homeless and low-income residents face. The program includes personalized coaching,
assistance with work placements, help in completing the GED and other types of support. By utilizing
the resources available through Metro Lutheran Ministry's other community care and emergency
assistance programs, Learning to Earning is able to deliver high-quality bundled services in an
effective, efficient manner from a competent, compassionate staff who are sensitive to our citizens'
needs, desires, and struggles.
Homeless, Poor To Benefit from Christmas Shopping
Want to help poor and hungry people while finishing your Christmas shopping? Two of Overland
Park’s favorite stores can help on Dec. 14.
On Sunday Dec. 14 from 1-5 p.m., Ten Thousand Villages at 7947 Santa Fe Drive, and from 1-4 p.m.,
the Tasteful Olive, 7945 Santa Fe Drive, will both donate 15 percent of their net sales to MLM.
Ten Thousand Villages sells fair trade handicrafts, home decor, jewelry, coffees, teas and chocolates.
The Tasteful Olive sells olive oils, gourmet oils, balsamic vinegars, pastas, olives, pestos, sea salts,
spice blends, recipe books and more!

Stewardship Corner
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus!
Your contributions are but one method of expressing your joy for what Christ has done. Your
giving statement for January through September 2014 is now available at both campuses.
You may also access your personal giving records via the Trinity Cloud.
The Lord does love us! He loved us enough to send His Son to deliver us from sin, death and
the power of the devil--not with cheap gold or silver but with His precious, innocent suffering
and death. He continues to "richly and daily provide all that we need" to live a fruitful and
healthy life. What the Lord provides is enough to meet our needs and to respond to the needs
of others. He has promised us, "You have been made rich in every way so that you can be
generous in every way" (2 Corinthians 9:11).
Demonstrate your thankfulness this season.
Each holiday our generosity is our response to the many promises of God, including the
promise that our sins are forgiven, made certain by the suffering and death of Jesus Christ,
and the promise that the Lord is always with us, made certain by the gift of the Holy Spirit
whom we have received through Baptism. These promises remain valid and true, regardless
of what we have done or failed to do. We thank God for His faithfulness! With this thought in
mind, we do not look back at the troubles of the past but look forward to the joy set before us.
Quarterly Giving Statement
Your contributions are but one method of expressing your joy for what Christ has
done. Enclosed is your giving statement for January through September 2014 as well as
instructions to log on to Trinity Cloud so you may access your personal giving records.
In the future, the mid-year quarterly giving statements will not be printed. We are taking this
step to be good stewards and save the church some administrative costs. Of course, we will
remind you that giving statements are available. For anyone who is unable to access Trinity
Cloud just call the office and we will happily print a giving statement at any time.
Multiple Methods of Giving
If you need a convenient way to make recurring contributions or plan to make an additional
gift before the end of the year, we encourage you to check out our electronic giving options.
As the pace of life speeds up around the holidays, you may find electronic giving a most
welcome way to make contributions.
Remember, Trinity offers multiple paths for contribution giving: Sunday offering plate
(envelopes), your bank bill-pay service, or online giving--visit www.tlcms.org and click
"Online Giving." Contact Gretchen Hollman or me in the church office if you have questions.

Our financial results of the first 3 months of our 2014/2015 fiscal year show that
contribution giving of $235,702 is on-target to budget projections. We are thankful for your
generosity and financial support to Trinity’s ministries.
September also marks the end of the first fiscal year quarter. This year, we are committed to
making our Missions payouts on a quarterly basis. We are setting aside 4.1% of contribution
giving for Missions. For the quarter this amounts to over $10,000 including directed
Missions giving. These expenses will be reported on the October financial statement. The
Missions Team will evaluate and make recommendations to Pastor Mark on the
organizations that should receive funding.
As always, should you have questions or desire more detailed information feel free to connect
with me (or any member of the Executive Committee) and we will certainly answer your
questions.
