Driving In Lubbock

Last week in Lubbock, I received a lesson in empathy, suppositions, and temper. I was driving in Lubbock and as usual I was irritable
because of the “crazy” drivers and all the construction. At one light
two lanes are allowed to turn left. I was in the right left turn lane and
was thus supposed to proceed to the right lane as we made the turn.
Well the little tiny car to my left turned into “my” lane nearly taking my
front bumper off. I instantly knew that the driver was an impatient college girl. I growled a little and wished that a police officer had seen
her bad turn and ticketed her.
OUR ILL—Lee Martin underwent major heart surgery Wednesday in the Heart
Hospital to replace two heart valves. Bobbie Day underwent surgery on her
carotid arteries Wednesday in UMC. Cindy Holt is scheduled to undergo knee
replacement surgery on Wednesday in Covenant Medical Center. Liz Anderson
is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery on Thursday at Covenant Surgicenter.
Please continue to pray for Geoff Bissett as he is not doing well. Please continue to pray for Red & Kendaleen Moore, Geoff Bissett, Leroy & Betty
Jeter, Lee & Paula Martin, Dan & Bobbie Day, Henry Norman, Jimmy &

Book of Bible Maps & Charts” in which Bo has been referencing in this class, the books are in. The books are $16.00 &
can be picked up & paid for in the church office. If you didn’t sign up to order one, but would like to buy one, extras
were ordered.
Just past the left turn we entered a construction zone and approached a four way stop. The little college girl was just in front of me
and apparently had no idea how to handle a four way stop. She started to go when is it was not her turn. This made everyone stop. I
growled again and thought that she needed to repeat driver’s education. She didn’t go when it was her turn. This made me wait longer
and growl more.
PRAYER REQUEST—Please be in prayer for Jeremy & Charla Nicholson (son &
daughter-in-law of Eddie & Donna Nicholson) as they were scheduled to leave
this past Wednesday for the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Jeremy &
Charla are expecting to deliver their baby boy around Thanksgiving than two
days following, their newborn son will undergo major open-heart surgery. Eddie
is the Industrial Technology teacher at Brownfield High School. He & Donna
have been visiting our church for quite some time now.
The first four way stop was followed by a second and a third. At
the third, she put her car in park. I knew it was in park because I saw
the backup lights flash on as the gear shift passed through reverse. I
growled again. Then she took off her seatbelt and started fooling with
something in the console. Cars began to back up behind me. I was
too close to easily pull around her car. I growled louder. Then she
opened her door and got out of her car in the middle of traffic, in a
construction zone. As her door began to open, I began the loudest
growl yet. But that growl was quickly turned to repentance because as
she exited her car I saw that she was a little old lady. She approached
my window and told me she was lost and seeking the Heart Hospital. I
told her to take a left turn from where we were and it would be on her
right just up the street. Then I told God how sorry I was for my growling.
Please continue to pray for Van & PJ Webb as they care for PJ’s parents & former members, Jackie & Jean Moon.
I’m really glad this lesson came to me. I hope I remember this the
next time a Lubbock driver cuts me off. I hope I remember that I really don’t know what is going on in the life of that driver. Maybe I should
give everyone in my life the benefit of the doubt.

We really appreciate Dan & Susie Bray for serving us pizza this past
Wednesday night! It was delicious!
As of today (Friday), we are in need of someone to sign up & host a
meal for next Wednesday. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board

SYMPATHY—We are in sympathy with the family of former member, Shanie
Dill (daughter of Jeanne Bell), over her passing Sunday. The funeral service
was conducted Wednesday in Levelland with Bob officiating.

made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”

God promised to Abraham he would bless the world through
his descendants--ultimately through Jesus and the message
of Jesus. He said, "Yes!" to us through Christ.
Now a nation is saying "Yes" to receive this same message
of God's love by asking for Bibles. Ukraine is asking us to
give them God's Word. They are asking us to provide Bibles
for their children--in their public schools, and universities, so
they can learn about God's love and His will for them.
Three regions in Ukraine, Kherson, Ternopil, and Zaporizhzhya have formally invited Eastern European Mission
(EEM) to place Bibles in 2,071 of their public schools, and 27
universities, so 341,000 students can read and study God's
Word on a regular basis.
We are also in sympathy with former member Troy Wilkie over the passing of
his sweet wife, Reudell (Rudy), Tuesday. The funeral service was scheduled to
be at 2:00 PM today (Friday) at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland, TX followed by the burial in Shepherd, TX. Rudy was also the sister of former member Delbert Bradley. Please keep Troy & their family in your prayers.
We are also in sympathy with Sammy & Dean Cox over the passing of Dean’s
brother, L.W. Hohenberger, of Honey Grove TX, Wednesday. A memorial service is pending at this time.
GIRLS CONFERENCE—Several of our Jr. High & High School girls along with
Camie Weems, Kathryn Woodard, Joann Silva, & Lana Powell will be attending
the West Texas Teen Girl Conference this weekend (Saturday & Sunday) at Abilene Christian University. They will meet at the FLC parking lot at 7:00 AM tomorrow & will return Sunday afternoon. Please keep this group in your prayers.
MEN & LADIES VISITATION—Beginning Monday, the meeting for men &
women’s visitation will be at the church building at 2:00 PM down the south
hallway in the Jr. High classroom.
On Sunday, the 30th, we will have an opportunity to say
"Yes!" Please plan on giving so Ukraine's youth can have
God's Word available to them.
LADIES WEDNESDAY AM BIBLE CLASS—Please note a change in the Ladies
Wednesday morning Bible class schedule. Nancy Faught will be teaching “Be
Zealous for the Right Thing” next Wednesday.
Ukraine has said "Yes" to God. Let's say "Yes" to them!
WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEALS—We are in need for someone to sign up & host a
meal for next Wednesday. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board by the
Teacher Center. If you can take care of this or have any questions, please contact Cindy Holt ASAP.
COLLECTING—We continue to collect deodorant for the Arms of Hope.
80TH BIRTHDAY PARTY—You are invited to help celebrate Mildred Cabe’s
“80th” birthday on Saturday, the 22nd, from 3:00—5:00 PM at the FLC.

I want to share an article with you written by David
McCasland entitled “Tear Down The Wall.”
The years following World War II were labeled the Cold War
as nations exchanged threats and jockeyed for power. The Berlin
Wall, built in August 1961, stood for almost 3 decades as one of
the most powerful symbols of the smoldering animosity. Then, on
November 9, 1989, it was announced that citizens could cross
freely from East to West Berlin. The entire wall was demolished
the following year.
The familiar Old Testament story of Joseph follows a favorite
son whose brothers hated him (Gen. 37-50). Yet Joseph refused
to build a wall of hatred between himself and his brothers who
sold him into slavery. When a famine brought them face to face
after many years, Joseph treated his brothers with kindness, saying, “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good…And
he comforted them and spoke kindly to them” (50:20-21), helping
to restore the relationship between them.
Twenty-five years ago [last Sunday], an oppressive manmade
barrier was opened, offering freedom and reuniting families and
friends.
If we’ve built walls of anger and separation between ourselves
and others, the Lord is willing and able to help us begin tearing
them down today.

When the ambulance took Charlene to the Heart Hospital the
last time she was so ill I thought we might lose her! After we got
home it took several days before she began to get her strength
back and I thought she might not get it back. Later Charlene told
me that she was thinking the same way about both things. We
just praise God that He blessed us in both events! She is doing
much better now! She really enjoyed being able to attend both
services Sunday!
