NOVEMBER PRESIDENT’S LETTER PAGE 2
NOVEMBER PRESIDENT’S LETTER of us is blessed is some way, but our paths are unique and interesting. Sharing each other’s life stories now and again perhaps is the very way we become more attached. Sharing our workplace stories and successes bonds us to the Focus tradition. In November, we will introduce the Board Members for 2015. We also will host the Women’s Showcase, an opportunity for FOCUS members to share their goods and talents with us. We will introduce our current MATC student, Dana Peterson, a young mother and excellent student. Don’t miss the November meeting!!! Dear Women “with Focus”, November is here … smells like Turkey, don’t you think?? The beginning of the Holidays is always fun, but can be, shall we say, work! However, the gorgeous leaves and mild weather of autumn this year has lifted my heart, and I hope yours. As my tenure as President of Focus winds down, I hope to wrap it up with a fairly well established program. The Board Members and others worked hard to investigate new ways of keeping FOCUS current. Our Monthly Board meetings provided creative ideas for enhanced change. Social opportunities attracted friendships. Friendships attracted new members. The recent members are welcomed as our newest friends. After 40 or more years, Women’s FOCUS remains a real standout for women in our community with our variety of gifts. We are involved in our current group of all ages and learn from each other. As in a family, some younger members will show us the way! The rest will listen as you inspire us.…creating a better Focus for all. In December, the HOLIDAY PARTY really will be fun! With a unique dining environment and hilarious entertainment, we will enjoy the fun. Please bring lots of guests for our Holiday event. All your friends and relatives! This is an open door event to celebrate a good FOCUS year and to anticipate a great 2015 year. Along with that, watch for the Gift Giving element for small children who need food and clothing. Our goal is to add Holiday Joy for the children in our community who have less, and need more. As we come together for the last hurrah in 2014, we can make smiles on the faces of youngsters who some day will emerge as great people. PAGE 7 Thank you all for continuing your commitment to FOCUS. As indicated by the amount of members that attended, it is a very important and timely issue. Carole Blaney, of C-Management Solutions, provided advice, education and solutions to help us protect ourselves both online and in “brick & mortar” businesses. Carole is a great resource. Sinek discovered the secret: it all starts with WHY. Any organization can explain what is does; some can explain how they do it; but very few can clearly articulate WHY. After watching the video, the tables were asked to discuss the following questions. 1. What is your AHA moment regarding your own business? 2. How does this information change how you think about your business? 3. How does this information relate to FOCUS? 4. How can thinking about the WHY of FOCUS impact the lives of others? Our speaker for the meeting was actually a video. We listened to a TED Talk of Simon Sinek discussing the concept of the Golden Circle. We learned that some people and organizations are more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others. Some enjoy I received very positive feedback regarding the discussions and an interest in pursuing the topic.
