Andrew Postell was a member of the Tallahassee Community College Forensics team for 2 years, serving as Captain his Sophomore year. Drew took 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking at his very first tournament that led to a competitive career of over 55 awards in Forensics. He won a National Silver Award in Impromptu Speaking and National Bronze Awards in Parliamentary Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Informative Speaking, and Impromptu Speaking. He was also the Regional Champion in both Parliamentary Debate and Duo Interpretation. Drew was the State Champion in Communication Analysis, 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking and 2nd overall in Pentathlon at the FCCAA State Tournament. He took 2nd in Communication Analysis for the Phi Rho Pi Regional Tournament. At the Emerald Coast Invitational Drew was the champion in Communication Analysis and finished 2nd in Informative Speaking at the Star Invitational as well as the champion in Communication Analysis at the VSA Blazer Classic Dbteam. Drew met his wife while at Tallahassee Community College as she was also a competitor on the TCC team. Both Drew and his wife Teresa have returned to judge at TCC tournaments as well as judge at several state tournaments prior to moving to Dallas. Drew continues to give back establishing a Forensics Scholarship through the Tallahassee Community College Foundation to assist with the academic needs of the TCC Forensics Other Awards and Recognitions: Florida Regional Champion for Creative Speaking for Phi Theta Kappa 2003 Senator Claude Pepper Foundation – ranked 6th best speaker in the state Dana Peck Dana Peck has been involved in Education, Politics and Journalism her entire professional career. She began her career in education teaching on the secondary level then made a 14 year stop as a political journalist before ending her career teaching journalism to college students. Dana received a BA in French from University of Kentucky and her MS from Ohio University in Journalism. Dana is a staunch supporter of the First Amendment. After her early teaching career Dana begin working in politics. From there she spent 14 years as a reporter on Florida Government and served as the president of the Florida Press Corps. She begin the final years of her career teaching journalism at Tallahassee Community College in 1997 and served as the Adviser to the student newspaper, The Talon. Dana retired in 2013 after 17 years at the College. During her term as Talon adviser she took students in her Newspaper Production class with no experience and helped them become journalists. She gave students a realistic comprehension of the responsibilities and rewards of careers in communication. Dana was involved in the Publications Division of FCSAA and used the conventions as learning experiences for her students. Leading by example, Dana was involved in the leadership of the division serving in many capacities such as workshop facilitator, conference coordinator and president of the division. She served on the FCSAA Executive Committee for the Publications Division Marta Magellan has been the adviser to the Miambiance since 2001. In addition to advising the awardwinning literary magazine, Marta has been a mentor to colleagues, helping them start literary magazines at Miami Dade College's Hialeah Campus, InterAmerican Campus, and Homestead Campus as well as serving as a tremendous resource for others in the Florida College System. She is always helpful to new advisers, sharing tips, strategies, and sound advice. Leadership roles within the Florida College System Activities Association include serving as Secretary and President of the Publications division as well as serving on the FCSAA Executive Committee. Marta is always willing to present workshops for students and advisers at conferences. She leads by example. Miami Dade College has been fortunate to have her coordinate many writing and literary contests. She chaired the Arts & Letters Day events at Miami Dade from 1994 to 2011, bringing multiple writers to campus. Marta has published travel articles in The Miami Herald and other newspapers as well as publishing three children’s books on animals and other free-lance magazine articles. Miambiance has won first place in the Community College Humanities Association Literary Magazine Competition Southern Division 9 times which advances the magazine to the National competition where Miambiance has finished in 1st place twice. The magazine has taken 1st place in General Excellence at the annual FCSAA Publication contest 8 times and 2nd place 4 times. In addition to the awards for the magazine, numerous students have won awards over the last 13 years Marta has been Adviser. The list of student awards is too long to even begin to name. Other Awards and Recognitions: Recipient of Women in Communication fellowship, 1975 Fulbright Grant, 1978 National Endowment for the Humanities Grant, 1993 Bonnie McCabe Endowed Chair for the Humanities, 2001 Distinguished Magazine Adviser at a Two-Year College, College Media Association, 2013 Special Congressional Recognition, U. S. Congress, 2013 Dr. Robert Westrick served as the President of Lake Sumter Community College from 1993-2002. He is responsible for the re-emergence of the Athletic program at the college. Westrick earned his Bachelors degree at Bellarmine University, a Masters degree at Xavier University and Doctorate at University of Alabama. Dr. Westrick spent 22 years at 3 of the Great 28 (Florida Community Colleges) prior to becoming the President of Lake Sumter Community College. Service has been important in Dr. Westrick’s career spending time in leadership roles both in the communities he has lived and in the state education system. He served as the chair for the Council for Instructional Affairs, several roles with United Way and SACS visiting team member. During his tenure at Lake Sumter he brought the athletic program back to life after a 10 year hiatus. In 1996 he received a grant for the college through equity funding and hired a “Head of Athletics” to study the feasibility of reviving athletics. The “New Era of Athletics” began in the Fall of 1998 with Women’s Volleyball followed by Softball and Baseball in the Spring of 1999. His foresight and dedication led to a strong program for the last 16 years. Dr. Westrick was involved in every aspect of the rebuilding of the program from facility construction and renovation to fundraising , encouraging community support and development/implementation of Athletic policies and procedures. He placed his “stamp” on the program by being involved in setting academic goals for student-athletes, assisting with establishing of athletic scholarships and implementing the framework for the future direction of the athletic program. The Male and Female Student Athlete Awards have been named the Dr. Robert and Merrell Westrick Student Athlete of the Year awards. Dr. Westrick annually gives to the Lake Sumter Athletic Scholarship fund and participates in the annual golf classic. Dr. Westrick served on the Board of Workforce Central Florida and on the “City of Legends” Board. He also served as the Executive Director of the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities. Dr. Westrick truly cares about student learning and his involvement in Education and Community shows how he is a Servant Leader. He and his wife Merrell are now retired and enjoying traveling and spoiling their 7 grandchildren. Last January they traveled to California and saw the Rose Bowl Parade and game as well as the BCS Bowl game. FCSAA Hall-of-Fame The FCSAA Hall-of-Fame is comprised of Administrators, Coaches, Advisors, Officials, Student/Athletes, and other nominees that have contributed a minimum of ten years to FCSAA or one of its member institutions. They have been selected by their peers on their merits of junior/community college contributions and achievements as well as significant accomplishments. FCSAA Distinguished Service Award The FCSAA Distinguished Service Award is given to deserving individuals who have provided significant leadership and service to the FCSAA Executive Committee and its many activities. These nominees have worked in support of the Association and its goals to promote, coordinate, and regulate intercollegiate activities among Florida’s community colleges.
