Specifically designed to be attached to numerous
types of electric motors (servo, brushless and stepper), Mijno Precision Planetary Gearheads are marketed and employed worldwide in markets that
include the aircraft and aerospace industry, factory
automation, special machinery and robotics.
Why choose Precision Planetary Gearheads ?
- Planetary gears offer the advantage of very high
power transmission capabilities per unit volume of
space and weight.
- Gearheads perform the important function of reducing speed and multiplying torque.
- Inertial loads can be “matched” to enable servomotors to do their job.
- Low backlash facilitates the need for precise positioning in automation applications.
- Low backlash also reduces shock loads in dynamic
reversing applications.

MIJNO planetary gearheads are designed and
manufactured to perform the above tasks efficiently,
quietly and reliably.
Because servomotors vary widely in their mounting
dimensions, MIJNO custom machines the gearhead
input flanges to match the customer’s motor. Our
customers are also able to choose the precision level
of backlash for most of the gearhead families.

As a flexible manufacturer, the MIJNO R&D department welcomes inquiries for modified or special gearheads. Due to a recent significant increase in this
field, MIJNO has created a specific section dedicated
to the development of special purpose gearheads.
Each MIJNO low-backlash gearhead family is AllPlanetary, offers 2 to 7 diameters, and up to four
stages of gearing. The families have different design
strategies for different applications and markets.
RACKS & PINIONS
- Racks dedicated for translation of loads: standard
application. Precision level suitable for quiet and
high speed translation.
- Racks designed for precision measurement and
translation of loads. Precision level suitable for
measuring or positioning applications requiring
high accuracy and quietness.
Owing to more than 80 years of experience in the
design and manufacture of power transmission components, Mijno offers precision and quality racks &
pinions. The use of selected alloy steels, and rigorous
processing controls, enable our company to supply
racks & pinions to technologically advanced sectors.

the best size of teeth, hardness and precision level.

INTEGRATED POWER TRANSLATION
PACKAGES
MIJNO offers a complete “package” of gearheadspinions-racks. We can securely fasten the rack pinion
on the gearhead shaft upon request. Holes in the
rack for mounting in your machine can be supplied.
The particularly quiet and precise running of these
sets is ensured by :
- The use of precision ground teeth in our gearheads
according to ISO class 4 to 5 accuracy.
- Rack pinions with ground teeth having a proprietary modification of the tooth profile called
“Rotaxe”. This improves smoothness and reduces
wear.
- Manufacturing of racks with straight or helical
teeth, ground or not, according to specification
Mij-12024. This modern tooth profile was especially developed for high speed applications.

• Economical range dedicated to servo-applications
requiring precision and robustness with economy.
• Backlash from 8 to 15 arc-mins. Backlash specification holds for rated gearhead life. Precisely cut satellite gears are case hardened, then precision ground
for smooth power transmission and quietness.
• The satellite gears rotate on needle bearings and are
cantilever supported on hardened and ground shafts.
• Assembly to your motor is quickly accomplished by
the integrated, self centering input pinion. A twoscrew clamping design secures it to the motor.
• Can be mounted to any motor appropriate for its
torque ratings. The price includes most adapter
flanges when needed.
• The output shaft is supported by two by two ball bearings. Output shafts are relatively large in diameter,
providing for stiffness and high radial load carrying
capacity. A keyway is standard.
• Maintenance free, grease lubrication.
• Output end mounting face features 8 threaded holes.
• Choose from 5 sizes. Standard ratios are 3 through
100/1 in one and two stages. 15,000 hours rated
life.

construction features that enable your machine to
perform with excellence.
• Backlash of 10 or 5 arc-mins. One (1) arc-min max
available on many sizes. Backlash spec. holds for
rated life.
• Deep case hardened input pinion and satellite gears
are finish ground to AGMA 12-14 quality levels.
Provide endurance and smooth, quiet, power
transfer. Permit highest motor input speeds.
• Oil lubrication (except for smallest size) for best heat
transfer and mechanical efficiency.
• Precise and easy assembly to your motor. The input
pinion is mounted in a “captured” ball-bearing to
self locate on the motor shaft and assist low sound
level. A two-screw balanced coupling grips the motor
shaft.
• Except for the gearhead input housing and shaft
seals, all parts are steel. Therefore thermal expansion of all components is uniform to ensure quiet
performance and reliability.
• Torsionally stiff design with large diameter output
shafts including “unibloc” (single piece of steel)
planet gear carrier. Smooth output shaft is standard.
Metric keyway supplied no charge when requested.
• Output shaft rotates in large, precisely preloaded,
angular contact bearings. These contribute to rigidity and provide high radial and axial load capability.
• Planet gears are supported on each side (not
cantilevered) and rotate on needle bearings.
• Integral ring gear is accurately cut in the steel
gearhead housing, contributing to quietness and
reliability.
• Emergency stop capability - conservative load
ratings and the robust construction allow for
infrequent “emergency stop” loads.
• Gearheads available for “low temperature” or “wash
down” environments.
• Life rating of 15,000 hours at rated load & operating
conditions.

• Heavy-duty servo grade right-angle series. An
output stage with a relatively large bevel gear set is
integrated to our unsurpassed MNT all-planetary
family.
• Output backlash of 15, 10 or 5 arc-mins max. One
(1) arc-min max available.
• Planetary input stages are hardened and ground,
slower speed right-angle has cut and hardened
gears.
• All gearhead housings are steel - important for
rigidity and uniform thermal expansion.
• Planetary in-line stages are oil lubricated. Bevel gear
output stage cavity is filled with metal adhering
grease.
• The distance from the face-mounting surface to the
motor centerline is short regardless of gear ratio.
This allows the motor-gearhead assembly to hug
the machine frame.
• Large, well-spaced angular contact bearings on
the large diameter output shaft provide torsional stiffness and high axial and radial load
capability. Smooth shaft is standard – keyway
available upon request.
• Double output shafts or hollow shaft versions
available on special order.
• Readily mountable to customer specified
motors with metric face or NEMA 23, 34 or 42
face dimensions.

BDB LINE
• Unique gearhead family dedicated to servo
applications requiring compactness and high torque up to 10,000 Nm (88,495 Lb-in.) continuous.
• Hyper Torque version available in the largest six of
seven sizes
• Rotating flange (shaft-less) design – eliminates
torsional deflection of relatively long and thin output
shafts. Allows omission of conventional couplings.
Possible to create versions with fixed output face and
rotating outer case.
• Backlash of 5, 3 arc-mins. One (1) arc-min available
on larger sizes.
• Excellent for applications requiring very high
torsional stiffness. Mount to servo motors, hydraulic
motors, or other devices.
• Precision ground, oil lubricated, all planetary
gearing assures quiet and smooth power transmission
with long (30,000 hours) gear life.
• Standard ratios from 4 to 220/1
• Flange dimensions are to DIN norms. Internal and
external pilots provide for centering at the output.
An unthreaded hole in the flange provides for
indexing. Multiple other thread holes offer
flexibility for attachment of driven components.

INTEGRATED POWER TRANSLATION PACKAGES
MIJNO offers a complete “package” of gearheadspinions-racks. We can securely fasten the rack pinion
on the gearhead shaft upon request. Customized holes
in the rack for mounting in your machine can be
supplied.
The particularly quiet and precise running of these sets
is ensured by:
• The use of precision ground teeth in our gearheads
according to ISO class 4 to 5 accuracy.
• Rack pinions with ground teeth including a proprietary modification of the tooth profile called
“ROTAXE™”. This improves smoothness and reduces
wear.
• Manufacturing of matching racks with straight or
helical teeth, ground or not, according to specification MIJ-12024. This modern tooth profile was especially developed for high speed applications.

SPECIAL PURPOSE GEARHEADS
Mijno stocks, or offers in short lead-time, several
families of gearheads that are interchangeable with
competitive gearheads. These gearhead families have
been designed to mount to a large variety of servo
motor brands and sizes. Most Motion Control Engineers
consider them as “standard components” that
accommodate a large variety of applications.
However, there are many applications where a “special
purpose gearhead”, specifically optimized for a single
application, is desired. Mijno Precision Gearing offers
special purpose gearheads according to customer
needs. We can design and manufacture gearheads
from a bare statement of specifications, or according to
customer drawings. Large quantities are not required
– we invite small and moderate annual quantity
applications.

manufacture planetary, bevel or conical, worm, and
parallel-shaft gearheads. The constant objective of our
Design Engineers is cost competitiveness and technical

The above gearheads are delivered ready to mount
onto your motor, lubricated with a KLÜBER (brand)
Type GH6 - 80 - 100 -150 or - 220 oil, depending
upon gearhead size. Gearheads are oil lubricated for
horizontal mounting position unless otherwise
specified. Also on request, we can lubricate your
gearhead for multi-position mounting.
This synthetic oil has been selected to optimally
lubricate the gears, bearings and shaft seals. The oil
contemplates a lifetime of 15000 hours. VITON™
seals are employed to resist heat and provide long
life while preventing leakage.
General lubrication vs. life information :
The nominal lifetime of our gearheads generally
depends on the duty cycles of the application. For an
operating temperature above 120°C, a special
lubrification is recommended.
