WFSICCM Seoul 2015
Organizing Committee
Dear Colleagues,
It is a great honor to bring your attention to the 12th Congress of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and
Critical Care Medicine in collaboration with the WFCCN and WFPICCS (WFSICCM Seoul 2015), which will be held from
August 29 to September 1, 2015 in Seoul, Korea. This will be the second time the congress is held in Asia where intensive
and critical care medicine has undergone a marked development over the past decades.
With its theme ‘One Step Further,’ the Congress will provide ample learning opportunities for practical knowledge and
skills. It will be a great occasion to deepen mutual understanding between our colleagues working under diverse medicosocial conditions where all medical professionals can advance a ‘Step Further Together’. Over 120 renowned scholars
from every continent have confirmed their participation so far and more speakers will be invited to ensure a Congress
filled with rich and insightful sessions.
The WFSICCM Seoul 2015 Congress Organizing Committee is committed to making this Congress accessible to
professionals from all over the world so that they may fully participate in this event and enjoy the benefits. To this end, we
are offering travel grants to critical care professionals from resource-limited regions and countries. The invited physicians
and nurses will join the Congress to share their knowledge and medical experiences with other professionals, and to
gain new insights from renowned professionals. And this will also help promote the status of the field of intensive care
medicine in the world.
The Committee promises to put its utmost effort to provide the high-quality experience of large-scale exhibitions and
also enjoyable social events where you can establish a new global network. We sincerely hope that you find the new
perspectives of critical care and the scientific programs presented at the congress interesting and valuable.
I look forward to your distinguished presence at the WFSICCM Seoul 2015 Congress.
Thank you.

WELCOME MESSAGES
World Federation of
Societies of Intensive and
Critical Care Medicine
(WFSICCM)
The WFSICCM exists since 1977, developed as an organization
of National Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine
with the aim of promoting the best possible standards of
intensive and critical care medicine around the globe. In those
early days, although a great concept, the World Federation
was relatively limited in terms of achieving its objectives, and
consisted largely of a group of individuals who liked to travel
from one meeting to another!
Progressively, the WFSICCM has become more and more
active and effective – today the world is flat and it is easy to
communicate with almost anyone, almost anywhere around
the globe, at almost any time. Travel is also easier and more
accessible, such that WF meetings are now held every other
year instead of every four years. Two years after our Durban
Congress and two years before Rio de Janeiro hosts the
event, we will meet in Seoul, a fascinating city located along
the Han River of South Korea. Easily reached from many parts
of the world, this beautiful city combines ancient culture and
historical buildings with modern developments and life-style in
a surprisingly harmonious manner.
The theme of the Seoul Congress is “One Step Further:
The Pursuit of Excellence in Critical Care” highlighting the
importance of small steps in the development and progress
of intensive care, as in many other aspects of life. But taking a
step is always easier with support, so let’s help each other - we
all have so many things to share and so much to learn from
one another.
We really hope you will join with us in Seoul to hear about new
developments, learn new skills, share experiences, and meet
colleagues from around the world. Let’s step forward together
into a better “intensive care” world.

President, World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care

World Federation of
Critical Care Nurses
(WFCCN)
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is my distinct pleasure, on behalf of the World Federation
of Critical Care Nurses (WFCCN), to invite you to join in the
activities and international networking opportunities by attending
the 12th Congress of the World Federation of Societies of
Intensive and Critical Care Medicine. The WFCCN is pleased
to pledge our joint support and collaboration for the Critical Care
Congress on August 29 through September 1, 2015, in Seoul
Korea.
The theme of the 2015 Congress “One Step Further: The Pursuit
of Excellence in Critical Care” designates the importance of
coming together to share strategies for achieving excellence
in critical care practice. The Seoul Congress will highlight
advances in critical care medicine practice, research, and
education as well as the contributions of interprofessional
critical care in advancing patient care and promoting best
patient care outcomes.
The WFCCN, with 42 international country members representing
over 500,000 critical care nurses worldwide, is proud to cohost the Congress. We encourage critical care nurses, doctors,
pharmacists, advanced practice providers, allied health
professionals, and industry partners or others interested in
critical care, to join with us to experience what promises to be
a most important meeting for critical care practitioners.
The Congress venue will provide a unique setting for learning,
sharing, and strategizing to further advance critical care
throughout the world. WFCCN is proud to serve as a co-host
for the 12th World Congress of Intensive and Critical Care
Medicine.

World Federation of
Pediatric Intensive and
Critical Care Societies
(WFPICCS)
Dear friends,
On behalf of the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive Care Societies
(WFPICCS), I am delighted to welcome you to the ‘12th Congress
of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care
Medicine (WFSICCM)’, to be held at Seoul from 29th August to 1st
September 2015.
The theme of the Congress is: ‘One Step Further: The Pursuit of
Excellence in Critical Care’. It will bring together a galaxy of world
renowned Faculty, with a vast repertoire of experience and expertise.
Over 3000 delegates are expected to participate, creating a fertile
ground for fruitful scientific and social interactions. As the theme
suggests, the Congress will highlight the latest advances in the field
of critical care, and current research from the bench to the bedside.
I invite all my colleagues, Pediatric critical care physicians, nurses, and
students, working at all levels, and assure them that they will greatly
benefit from the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences not
only with their pediatric critical care colleagues but also the colleagues
in other specialties. The WFSICCM Congress will be the meeting
point for critical care professionals from a diverse array of disciplines
and an extraordinary opportunity to build further collaborations.
The Organizers are working hard to put together an unparalleled
scientific programme which will include excellent presentations on
all aspects of critical care practice. I expect that participants from
different health-care settings will enjoy the plenary sessions, guest
lectures, special symposia, and especially the free paper sessions.
The poster sessions will be a great meeting ground for new ideas,
concepts and outputs. More details will be available on the Congress
website as the dates draw closer.
Seoul is a vibrant city that reflects a culture of traditional values,
balanced with cutting-edge technology. In a sense, this mix of tradition
with technology also reflects the work of health-care professionals
working in critical care units all over the world. Therefore, the Congress
theme and content will naturally appeal to everyone in the field.
I look forward to welcome you at Seoul for a very memorable
Congress.
With Best regards,
SINGHI Sunit, M.D., Ph.D.
President, World Federation of Pediatric Intensive Care Societies (WFPICCS)

The Korean Society of
Critical Care Medicine
(KSCCM)
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Korean Society of Critical Care Medicine
(KSCCM), it is my great pleasure to invite you to the 12th
Congress of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and
Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM Seoul 2015), which will be
held from 29 August to 1 September, 2015 in Seoul, Korea.
The KSCCM was established on 19th December 1980 and
has contributed greatly in promoting the updated knowledge
and integrating key medical disciplines in the field of critical
care medicine. With a view to highlighting the role of KSCCM
as an invaluable source of support in advancing science
and education throughout Korea and beyond, we feel more
than convinced that the WFSICCM Seoul 2015 will become
essential on the account of its coordination function and
responsibility in providing most up-to-date information to meet
the needs of participants from all over the world.
Under the theme of “One Step Further: The Pursuit of
Excellence in Critical Care,” the WFSICCM Seoul 2015
Congress Organizing Committee is preparing for the event in
order to successfully deliver practical support and important
insights required for critical care practice. It will offer a number
of group discussions and workshops tailored to different
levels of intensive and critical care. We sincerely hope that the
upcoming conference serves as ideal venue where you see the
new perspectives in critical care and find scientific programs
that will be presented during the conference interesting and
beneficial.
In addition, the WFSICCM Seoul 2015 will offer an excellent
opportunity for companies that want to showcase their latest

Interactive Sessions
There will be more than 100 sessions in a variety of topics in multiple formats at the Seoul congress. Many of them will
be pleasantly interactive, encouraging discussions between speaker and participants and also between participants.
The speakers and the organizing committee will help create a highly interactive environment where participants can
casually interact with each other and delve into some unexplored areas of the field.
Experience-Oriented
A number of workshops will be organized during the main congress to help participants attend the sessions more
conveniently. These sessions are designed to inspire participants to learn novel knowledge while experiencing new
devices and medical technologies.
Must-Visit ExhibitiOn
The Seoul Congress will hold a must-visit exhibition where participants can have an invaluable opportunity to
experience new technologies and medical devices. It will also be an opportunity for them to obtain new skills and
network with professionals of the industry. The exhibition will open on the same day the Congress opens.
Usable Knowledge
Supported physicians and nurses from resource-limited countries will obtain practically usable knowledge throughout the
sessions. During the sessions such as ‘Meet the Experts,’ ‘Panel Discussions and Workshops,’ they can share with other
participants and field experts medical case studies or difficulties they have faced in their countries. The shared knowledge
will be beneficial to not only the supported physicians and nurses, but all the other participants attending the Congress.
BeLoved Congress
The organizing committee believes that the scientific program will help reduce the gap between countries in the critical
care medicine field. Through this process, we believe the congress will establish itself as a meaningful event in critical
