The Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is an entity of the City of Johannesburg that stimulates and
operates Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein), Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre in order
provide the integrated management of world class African theatre venues and a high quality
entertaining, innovative and inclusive programme which serves the diverse communities of the
City of Joburg in support of Joburg 2040.
A position is therefore now available for a
ACCOUNTANT: JOBURG THEATRE (Ref: ACC/14)
The successful applicant will report directly to a centralized finance department for Joburg City
Theatres, located at Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein.
Purpose of the position: This position is responsible for the effective and efficient functioning of the
finance department. Reports to the Finance Manager and ensures the accuracy and integrity of
financial information. The successful candidate is expected to support the department by providing
financial information, maintaining and reconciling the GL and preparing various analyses.
Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
 Collection, processing, recording, reconciliation and reporting of financial data, verifying the
validity, completeness and accuracy of source documentation
 Maintains complete and proper records of revenue, expenditure
 Maintain general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable and payable detail and
control accounts
 Assist in the preparation of the Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements and supporting
working papers
 Perform General Ledger reconciliations (including bank, debtors, creditors, suspense and
interdepartmental accounts)
 Provide accounting and financial information and responses to risk, audit and other
assurance providers
 Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
 Assist in the compilation of shareholder reports in accordance with MFMA and other
relevant legislation.

Education and experience required:
• A recognised accounting degree or diploma
• 5 years’ experience in a financial management environment
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of organisational and government structures (applicable legislative and
regulatory framework; Municipal Finance and Management Act (MFMA); Treasury
Regulations and guidelines; Government accounting standards (GRAP); Principles and
practice of financial accounting; Tools and techniques for accounting and reporting
Skills and Attributes:
• Excellent command of the English language – verbal and written
• Attention to detail is essential
• Ability to use own initiative
• Ability to perform under stress
• Ability to work without supervision
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate at all levels with tact and diplomacy
• High level of work ethic and integrity.
