PROGRAM & SPACES
NON-TRADITIONAL TRADE FAIR STAND OPTIONS
EXHIBITOR-DESIGNED SPACES:
DESIGN COMPETITIONS:
(BOOTH SPACE ALTERNATIVE)
(MARKETING OPPORTUNITY OR BOOTH ALTERNATIVE)
CONCEPT:
–– Exhibitors may opt to work with other non-competitive
exhibitors and a leading hospitality design firm to
create unique spaces as a booth alternative.
Manufacturers have the option of participating in a
sponsored design competition (i.e. best lobby, guestroom,
etc.) to be judged by leading hospitality owners and
developers. Winning concepts will be built-out on the trade
fair floor and the designers are required to use sponsors’/
exhibitors’ products in the design concept and installation.
Options for participation include:
–– Co-sponsors and the design team will collaborate
on the design concept, and share the display area
and costs for the construction of the space.
–– Sponsors will have control over the quantity and
quality of products to be installed, within the design
scope. These spaces will serve as “hubs” for learning,
networking and customer engagement on the trade
fair floor and possibilities include: bars/lounges,
café/lounge, and juice/yogurt bar (or alternative
types of display areas).
–– All Designed Spaces will offer food and beverage
for sale, and the number of spaces to be constructed
is limited.
–– Cost is approximately equivalent to a 10x20
premium booth space ($11,400). Minimum of
5 non-competing exhibitors.
BENEFIT:
Designed Spaces provide a prime opportunity to share
a larger area for displaying products in a hospitality
setting (think bar, lounge, theater, coffee shop). This
turn-key booth alternative positions your company as
a thought leader and innovator, as well as achieving all
the “visual benefits” of working in this non-traditional
space. Further, participation as a sponsor affords you
the unique opportunity to collaborate with a leading
hospitality design firm and leverage the relationships of
other sponsors for business advancement.
Contact your sales representative for more details.
Limited Availability
–– A marketing opportunity with several co-sponsors
participating in the display area at a cost of $4,000
(per sponsor)
–– As a booth alternative with fewer sponsors participating
($11,400 plus*) and the opportunity to work within the
space. This option provides ownership of the space,
and high design competition visibility.
* based on net square feet and number of sponsors
HOW THE DESIGN COMPETITIONS WORK:
–– Manufacturers commit to a design competition
space, and the interior designer/architect is required
to use sponsors’ products in the conceptual design
of the space.
–– Design concept objectives are determined by the
BD team with sponsor input to ensure products are
applicable and displayed in a favorable way.
–– Hospitality owner judging panel is selected, and a
“call for submissions” with sponsor mention will be
marketed to the hospitality community.
–– Winners selected by May 15, 2014.
–– The winner of the competition(s) will receive
complimentary travel to BDNY (airfare + hotel)
for up to (3) design team members, build-out of
the space, marketing support and recognition in
the pages of Boutique Design.
–– BD project managers and ops team will work with
sponsors and interior design team on the development
of the spaces.
–– Design Competitions are limited.

THE VENUE
If fabulous spaces make for unforgettable experiences, it’s
hard to imagine a more idyllic setting for BDwest than the
San Diego Convention Center’s glass-enclosed Sails Pavilion.
Natural light bathes this 90,000sf space, with fiberglass “sails”
overhead—a nod to the city’s maritime history—and an
adjacent outdoor terrace overlooking the bay.
BDwest will infuse this unique venue with engaging exhibits,
competition build-outs and collaborative Designed Spaces for
education and networking.
Surrounded by San Diego’s natural beauty, and situated within
walking distance of its finest dining, entertainment, shopping
and cultural attractions, the Sails Pavilion is a relaxed, hasslefree environment for doing business.

UNIQUE EXHIBIT OPPORTUNITIES
EXHIBITOR-DESIGNED SPACES:
DESIGN COMPETITIONS:
(BOOTH SPACE ALTERNATIVE, LIMITED AVAILABILITY)
(MARKETING OPPORTUNITY OR BOOTH ALTERNATIVE)
BASED ON SPONSOR PARTICIPATION
CONCEPT:
–– Exhibitors may opt to work with other non-competitive
exhibitors and a leading hospitality design firm to
create unique spaces as a booth alternative.
–– Co-sponsors and the design team will collaborate
on the design concept, and share the display area
and costs for the construction of the space.
–– Sponsors will have control over the quantity and
quality of products to be installed, within the design
scope. These spaces will serve as “hubs” for learning,
networking and customer engagement on the trade
fair floor and possibilities include: bars/lounges,
outside terrace café/lounge, and juice/yogurt bar
(or alternative types of display areas).
–– Most Designed Spaces will offer food and beverage
for sale, and the number of spaces to be constructed
is limited.
–– Cost is approximately equivalent to a 10x20 premium
booth space ($11,400). Minimum of 5 non-competing
exhibitors.

–– A marketing opportunity with several co-sponsors
participating in the display area at a cost of $4,000
(per sponsor)
–– As a booth alternative with fewer sponsors participating
($11,400 plus*) and the opportunity to work within the
space. This option provides ownership of the space, and
high design competition visibility.
* based on net square feet and number of sponsors
HOW THE DESIGN COMPETITIONS WORK:
–– Manufacturers commit to a design competition
space, and the interior designer/architect is required to
use sponsors’ products in the conceptual design
of the space.
–– Design concept objectives are determined by the
BD team with sponsor input to ensure products are
applicable and displayed in a favorable way.
–– Hospitality owner judging panel is selected, and a “call
for submissions” with sponsor mention will be marketed
to the hospitality community.
–– Winners selected by October 1st, 2014.
–– The winner of the competition(s) will receive
complimentary travel to BDwest (airfare + hotel)
for up to (3) design team members, build-out of
the space, marketing support and recognition in
the pages of Boutique Design
–– BD project managers and ops team will work with
sponsors and interior design team on the development
of the spaces.
–– Design Competitions are limited.
