God Bless, Monsignor Amey The Psalms: The School of Prayer Bible Study The Psalms are at the heart of the Bible. The Holy Spirit inspired them. Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them. These sacred hymns become our heartfelt response to God’s loving and wondrous deeds for us. Their words captivate the imagination and draw us into a deeply personal encounter with God. St. Mary's will study Psalms: The School of Prayer beginning Thursday, October 9, 7pm, and continuing on Thursday evenings in the Parish Hall. Cost is $20, but scholarships are available. For more information, please contact Lacy Prebula, the Director of Religious Education, at 301-762-8750 or [email protected] hope you can join us! Archdiocese of Washington 75th Anniversary Medal The Archdiocese of Washington’s 75th Anniversary presents a great opportunity to recognize and thank individuals who have given generously of their time, talent and treasure. To commemorate this milestone, a special award has been designed – a bronze anniversary medal measuring three inches in diameter with the anniversary logo in front and the Cardinal’s message of gratitude on the back. This medal will be presented in a box with a wooden stand. A citation from His Eminence noting the individual’s contribution to the mission of the local Church of Washington will accompany the award. Each pastor received one medal for presentation at a time and venue of his choosing. Monsignor Amey will award this special medal to John Durbin on November 23, at the 9 am Mass for helping to manifest the Kingdom of God through his extraordinary contributions over the years to St. Mary’s Parish. Mass Intentions Any one of the regularly scheduled Masses may be offered for a specific intention – in memory of a deceased person; for a sick person’s recovery; a special birthday; anniversary; or other occasion. You may make arrangements in the Rectory Office for a specific date. The customary offering for a Mass card is $15.00. New to the Area? …then pick up and complete a parish registration form. We’d like to welcome you to the community. Sick or Homebound? …Please call the Rectory to let us know if you are not able to come to Mass because you are homebound. FYI The minutes from the Pastoral Council meetings are posted on the St. Mary’s Web site. Feel free to look at them so you can see what is going on in the parish. Social Concerns Corner A BIG THANK YOU to all who donated food items last weekend for the Thanksgiving Food Baskets to benefit the City of Rockville and for the donations to our monthly food drive for Rockville FISH. Your generosity helps to feed many families especially during the holidays. WE NEED YOUR HELP! ADVENT begins the last weekend in November and you can help in the following ways: 1) Tree tag decorating in the Parish Hall today, November 16, after the 12:30 pm Mass (The more the merrier and it’s a great family event.); 2) Decorating the Advent Giving Tree with the tree tags on Sunday, November 23, after the 12:30 pm Mass in the outer Sacristy. Then, starting November 29, take a tree tag from the Advent Giving Tree and help the area organizations that serve the poor, homeless, disabled, and unborn. You may also give a unique Christmas gift by participating in the Alternative Christmas Gift Program by donating money in honor of a loved one and then receiving a beautiful Christmas card reflecting your donation to one of the area organizations.
