CONCEPT PAPER
"JRC SUPPORT TO THE ENLARGEMENT"
9 December 2014 (University of Novi Sad, Serbia)
Context
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is playing an important role in providing scientific and technological
support for the European Union enlargement and integration process. The JRC is a member of the
Inter-Service Group Enlargement and cooperates with DG ELARG in the framework of the accession
negotiations as well as in the preparation of the annual enlargement package.
The seminar "JRC Support to Enlargement" is co-organised by the JRC and the Serbian Ministry of
Education, Science and Technological Development within the Travel Accommodation and
Conference facility (TAC) for Western Balkans and Turkey established by DG ELARG to finance logistic
and venue costs of conferences organised by the Commission in the EU or the beneficiary country in
connection with the enlargement process and the pre-accession strategy.
The aim of the event is to present to key stakeholders from the scientific community, industry and
policy making of the Enlargement area, the activities carried out by JRC to support the Enlargement
process and in particular to provide specific examples of activities related to the Enlargement
countries' priorities identified during the Networking activity with the Members of the Board of
Governors and the National Contact Point from the Enlargement countries.
