"The Man Code" KEYS TO UNLOCKING A BALANCED LIFE
KEYS TO UNLOCKING A BALANCED LIFE COME HEAR DENNIS SWANBERG as he shares from "The Man Code" November 23, 2014 9 & 10:30 a.m. Worship Center The mission of "The Man Code" is providing men with keys to unlocking a balanced life to strengthen their relationship with God, their advisors, their friends, their church, their community... ...and ultimately their world. BONHAM SCHOOL CHRISTMAS OFFERING ... kicked off last Sunday with generous giving of $2712. Since 2004, your kindness has resulted in gifts totaling $46,233. The Primetimers and the Bonham Bulldogs have a very unique and special relationship. Bonham opened their door in 1953 while Pioneer Drive followed in 1954. Bonham is the local, across the street, elementary school. Many of their students attend Pioneer Drive or were students in our Child Development Center. Many of the teachers and staff are members of our church. We have been living life together for 60 years! The 11th Annual Bonham Christmas Offering will meet countless needs. Doctor’s visits, prescriptions, food, clothing and a trip to the Paramount Theater to “The Polar Express” movie will bring a smile to students, faculty and parents. Will we exceed the $50,000 amount this year? Every Primetimer Class (60+) will have the joy of giving through November 30. The Christmas gift will be presented to the Bulldogs at Primetime Live on December 4. SAY CHEESE ... MEET YOUR MINISTERS We want to make sure you know who your ministers are here at Pioneer Drive. Each week we will introduce a minister and give you a small glimpse into their ministry. DANNY BAREFIELD Minister of Music When were you first interested in pursuing music? As a kid I would pretend to play the piano on our living room coffee table. During my second grade year I had a friend that played piano and she taught me some simple things. I would also pick out television show themes by ear. My parents eventually bought an old upright piano and let me start taking lessons. They told me that if I would do something with it they would buy me a new one. One year later, they bought me a new piano and I still have that piano in my home today. How did you get Tina to go on that first date? Tina was in my first class on the first day at HSU. I sat right behind her in English with Dr. Fink. She says she doesn’t remember me from that class, but I know better! Our sophomore year we were attending the same church. There was a party after church one evening and I asked Tina to go. She did. Apparently she could not resist my charming good looks and personality. Actually, the truth is…I married way above! Tina is crucial to my ministry. She takes care of all the food for our High School Choir Tour, she is my assistant for pageant helping me with all the details of the script, communicating with the technical sound and lighting people, she helps coordinating the serving at the Thanksgiving Banquet with the High School Students, she takes care of organizing the housewares section of the High School Choir fund rasier, “The World’s Largest Garage Sale”. Pioneer got a two-for one with Tina! Name one lesson you learned from a fellow staff member? When I came in November of 2000 I had been in ministry for 14 years. I was able to work under Fred McNab for 2 years before he left Pioneer Drive. I learned many things about ministry from Fred. He was a great mentor to me. One of the greatest things he taught me was to think big for the Kingdom. We have many resources…so use them. He encouraged creativity, various styles of leadership and worship and to broaden my vision for the music ministry for our church. Fred will always be appreciated for the many things he taught me about ministry and the people who are a part of it. ALAMEDA COMMUNITY GARDEN Bring your shovels, wheelbarrows and gloves to the Center at 650 Corsicana at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 22. Help this project get started! Lunch will be provided.
