Kia ora parents and caregivers,
The seniors can put a big tick of success next to their science expo based around
their studies of volcanoes. It was fantastic to see all of them so engaged in their
learning and sharing it with other students and their families. I have never seen so
many volcanoes erupting at one time. The prize for the eruption that went highest
goes to AJ and Ryan. They managed to spray red food colouring right up under the
eaves in the quad. It was fantastic!
The juniors can put the big tick next to their athletics rotations. It was great to see all
these kids really enjoying the athletic events. Our interschool team of 8 year olds +
are off to Waipu to represent OTP today. We wish them luck. We run a really active
school here with plenty of sporting and outdoor opportunities. We do it because most
children really love it, it is great from a health and socialisation point of view and it will
leave wonderful memories that will impact on them and their choices in the future.
A reminder that the Year 4 and 5/6 camps are only a week and bit away. Please work
with your children on the organisation required of them for this event. Children should
be starting to assemble the gear they need, checking it off against the gear list
provided by the school. As parents/caregivers it is important you know when to have
children at school by and when they need picking up. Every year we have one or two
families who arrive late at school to pick up children from the Ruapehu trip. We will
ring school with an ETA on the Friday so if you need to know what’s going on ring or
text Val in the office.
In the next week we will be formulating draft class lists for 2015. We are all involved in
this process to ensure that your children’s placement is based on all the information
available. We put a lot of effort into placing every child in the room and with the
teacher we think they will be most successful with. If you have had a change of
circumstance and know that your children will not be attending OTP School next year
and we are not aware of it, please let us know.
Back to School time is fast approaching once again and this year we will be doing
things a little differently. Processing and packing stationery orders has always been a
time consuming and labour intensive task for the school. To free up some of our time
and resources at the beginning of the year our stationery can be purchased through
OfficeMax and will no longer be available at our school. This will benefit our school in
both freeing up our resources and earning our school Rewards when families
purchase their stationery supplies through OfficeMax. We believe being able to
acquire all your children’s stationery needs in this manner will also be an easy and
time saving task for you at a busy time of year. All class stationery lists will be
available to view, download and order from on the myschool.co.nz website from 1st
January 2015. See the letter coming home with the newsletter today.

Whole school assembly this Friday 1.30pm. Peer mediators, Tech support,
librarians and road patrol monitors will be getting their certificates for services to the
school.

receive their badges and certificates at Friday’s Assembly, starting at 1.30pm.
All Library books need to be returned to school now for the end of year stocktake. The library has closed early this year as it is being spruced up ready for next
year as Mrs Robson’s class has moved into one of the new rooms.
Can you help? - The Ruakaka Christmas Parade is on Saturday 20 December
and we need someone to provide a truck or vehicle with a long trailer for our school
float. Please see Miss Reynolds, Room 4 or Mrs Robson, Room 5 if you can help.
Head Lice are very common.
Brushing your child’s hair well after school each day may help to prevent eggs being
laid. Check all the people in your house as well. Wet comb their hair once a week.
Tell your children not to use anyone else’s brush or comb and only wear their own
hat.

Christmas Toy Donation Appeal 2014
Christmas is a time for relaxing with family, enjoying
life and for some, receiving presents on Christmas
Day. However, for many in our community, this time of year can highlight and add
to the financial pressure they find themselves under.
Orrs Unichem Pharmacy Ruakaka, alongside Life Point Church, Bream Bay
Community Trust, Plunket, Ruakaka Food Bank (Des Olney) are asking the
families of One Tree Point School to reach out to others and donate toys, books
etc that they no longer use so that they can be gifted to families who will greatly
appreciate them.
Donated toys can be dropped into Orrs Unichem Pharmacy Ruakaka at the
Ruakaka Town Centre. All we ask is that they are clean and in working condition.
Unfortunately we are unable to take soft toys.
Skids Holiday Care - end of the year care available for 18th & 19th December
8am-6pm please contact Esther. We are looking at running a January Holiday
Programme if you are interested either contact Esther txt/call on 021609156 or
visit our website www.skids.coz.nz. This will be confirmed once we know how
many parents are interested in using this service. Oscar subsidies are available.
This service is available to any child needing care for the ages 5-13 years old.

Sushi day is again on Tuesday next week. Order forms will be with the newsletter
today. Please return them on Monday morning. Final sushi day for the year will be
on Tuesday 8th December.
MEETING - PTA are meeting tonight at 7.30, at school in the staffroom. All
welcome.
THANKS & DONATIONS - Thanks again to everyone behind the scenes who
made our Guy Fawkes night such a great success. Final profits and updates on our
donations from our fundraising this year will the finalised soon.
Abandoned Clothes - we have an extraordinary large amount of clothing in the
foyer which has been left around the grounds over the last few weeks. Come in
and have a sort through before we hand it on to a local charity. If all items of
clothing waere named it would cut down on this problem.
New Lifejackets for Old
With summer on our doorstep Coastguard is so excited to bring their latest boating
safety initiative the ‘Old4New Lifejacket Upgrade’ Campaign to your community.
You’ll see the Coastguard lifejacket upgrade van laden with brand new lifejackets
visiting your local boat ramp this weekend at Marsden Marina Saturday Nov
22 from 6.30am – 9.30am and then from 3.00pm – 5.30pm!
Anyone who owns a lifejacket is able to upgrade their current one for a brand new,
‘fit for purpose’ lifejacket, with a competitive trade in discount. You can find more

Free to a family who would use it. A quarter size child’s violin, with case, in good
