Major physical works to improve storm water drainage in selected catchments in Dhaka city remain on schedule. Civil works, pump installation and other mechanical and electrical installations have been completed at Rampura storm water pumping station – thus increasing the storm water pumping capacity by 25m3/s. Full commissioning of Rampura station is expected by December 31, 2014. Kamlapur storm water pumping station is also on schedule to be fully completed and commissioned by June 30, 2015. Rehabilitation works for the originally targeted eight drainage canals are progressing well, and are on schedule to be completed by the project closing date. Total capacity of rehabilitated drainage canals has increased by 150m3/s, which is about 60% of the targeted increase of 250m3/s. Total length of rehabilitated canals now stands at 18,500m, as compared to the targeted length of 20,885m. Further, key technical assistance activities to improve DWASA’s investment planning capacity remain on schedule to be completed by credit closing date. The sewerage master plan has been completed and approved by DWASA Board. The draft final report on the drainage master plan has been submitted, and is currently being reviewed by DWASA and other stakeholders. DWASA has also recently launched the process of preparing an investment plan to improve services for the low-income customer groups. Finally, significant progress has been achieved implementing DWASA’s institutional capacity development action plan.
