ISIB 2 -2015: Closing the research and innovation divide:
the crucial role of innovation support services and
knowledge exchange“
• 5 networks on specific themes to be proposed bottom-up:
Synthesising, sharing and presenting best practices and research
results focusing on themes and issues that are near to be put into
practice, but not known or tested by practitioners
• Networks in the range of 2 mio Euro on specific themes to be
proposed bottom-up
Thematic networks in Horizon 2020
Work programme 2014-2015
Main aim:
•Synthesise, share and present best practices and research
results focusing on themes and issues that are near to be
put into practice
•Produce material for practitioners
Thematic networks in Horizon 2020
Work programme 2014-2015
• Projects must develop end-user material:
• for broad dissemination to practice (such as info sheets
in a common format and audio-visual material)
• that is long-term available and easily understandable,
• to be shared through the EIP network (impact on
"skills": input for education and a research web-database for
end-users)
• Using the Common format for "practice abstracts" :
http://ec.europa.eu/eip/agriculture/sites/agri-eip/files/eipguidelines-july-2014_en.pdf (see the annex)
Thematic networks in Horizon 2020
Work programme 2014-2015
• Thematic networks follow the multi-actor approach
• Projects involving a wide range of actors as relevant for
the specific themes:
• researchers,
• advisors, innovation support services,
• farmers/farmers' groups,
• EIP project groups (interactive innovation groups incl also e.g.
enterprises, education, NGOs, administration, regulatory
bodies, )
• NO pure research networks, include tacit "non-formalised"
knowledge from practitioners, user groups, farmers etc
Thematic networks in Horizon 2020
Work programme 2014-2015
• Themes can be linked to:
• products or sectors (e.g. arable crops, fruits, vegetables,
pig,…etc)
• or a broad range of cross-cutting subjects (e.g. crop
rotation, certain farming practices, energy, implementation
approaches of a directive, eco-system services, social services,
bio-based products, short supply chains,…etc)
• For the purpose of organisation, possible sub-networks may have
a more limited focus, e.g. the local/regional/national level or for a
specific crop/product/farming
Thematic networks in Horizon 2020
Work programme 2014-2015
• As they bring together possible actors, thematic
networks help the connecting and building of EIP
interactive innovation groups & multi-actor
projects (footnote m-a)
• Thematic networks are not: research or
demonstration projects, networks preparing the research
agenda, awareness raising groups (they are best
practice & knowledge for practitioners!)
ISIB-2-2015 - Expected impacts
• Successful deployment of vast reservoir of knowledge
• Focused collection of innovative knowledge on specific
themes, greater user acceptance, intense dissemination
of solutions
• Accesible and long-term available end-user material
• Improved skills and education material
• Support EIP-AGRI implementation
Updates on EIP developments
• EIP interactive platform: a place for projects to share
knowledge and results
• Live since september 2014
• Will keep developing
• Database of project results
• EIP Operational groups:
• Do not exist yet, but interactive innovation groups feeding
into the EIP-AGRI already do and are also welcome
• Operational groups will be created in the coming
months in the framework of Rural Development
programmes
• Reporting based on a common format
What is an Operational Group (or interactive
innovation group feeding into the EIP)?
Farmers
NGOs
Agribusiness
Advisors
Operational
Group
Researchers
"Operational Groups" are no stakeholder networks, no stakeholder
boards, no thematic coordination groups, nor discussion groups
An OG = actors working together in a project targeted at innovation
and producing concrete results
