Families celebrate local Adoption Day
Eight Adams County children
woke up Saturday morning in a place
they weren't sure they would ever
see: a permanent home with a loving
family.
At a ceremony Satuday at the
Adams County Justice Center, County
Human Services celebrated National
Adoption Day by officially connecting
these children with their new families. In the past nine years, nearly 200
Adams County adoptions have been
finalized on National Adoption Day.
“As a child of the foster system that
was later adopted into a loving family, this celebration is close to my
heart,” Board of County
Commissioners Chairman Charles
“Chaz” Tedesco said. "So many children in Adams County are desperately looking for a forever home."

In 2014, more than 100 children
have found forever adoptive homes
in Adams County. Close to 100,000
children in the U.S. are waiting in foster care for an adoptive family.
“The best part of National
Adoption Day for us is seeing the
smiles on the children’s faces
throughout the celebration ceremony,”said Chris Kline, director of the
Adams County Human Services.
“This is such an important event, not
only for these eight families, but also
to bring awareness to many others
that are considering adoption.”
Adams County has participated in
the National Adoption Month campaign since 2005, annually on the
Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Funeral Notices
Betty L. Eatherton, 89, died Nov. 21 in Brighton. She
was born in Glenwood Springs to Faye and Ethel Smith.
Survivors include her daughters Barbara Ann (Bill)
Kennedy and Georgia Lorraine (Jeffrey) Chigro; daughterin-law LaVonne Eatherton, five grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Norval V.
Eatherton Sr., her son, Norval V. Eatherton Jr., and grandson Scott Kennedy. A celebration of her life, 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Olinger Highland Chapel in Thornton.
Betty Jane Miller (Gish), 84 died Nov. 19. Betty is survived by her sons, Terry (Claudette) Wham of Hudson and
Jerry (Norma) Walker of Bakersfield, Calif.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by brothers Edward T. Gish and Glenn R. Gish; and
twin sister Bonnie Jean. Full obit Tabor-Rice
Clara Lee Martin died Nov. 19. She was born in Fort
Lupton to Rollie Jacob Vincent and Florence Elizabeth
(Knous) Vincent. She will be remembered for her hospitality at the Branding Iron Restaurant. Clara Lee was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Martin, daughter
Shelley Elizabeth Martin, brother Raleigh J. Vincent and
sisters Lucille Grothe and Mary Jolley. Survivors include
sisters Virginia Ruggiero of Arvada and Beverly Willard of
Brighton; sons Rev. Dr. John T. Martin Jr. of Charles
Town, W.Va., Dana Vincent Martin of Arlington, Virginia,
and Mitchell Lee Martin of Fort Lupton; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren with two on the way.

Jerry T. Miyamoto, 75, of Aurora, died Nov. 17. Jerry
graduated from Brighton High School. Survivors include
sons Michael (Cynthia) Miyamoto of Elizabeth, Scott
Miyamoto of Aurora; daughter Jill (Pete) Miyamoto-Ditmon
of Frederick; and two grandchildren. Graveside service,
11 a.m., Tuesday, Elmwood Cemetery. Obit Tabor-Rice
