School News
Suddenly we are in the last half of the term and busily engaged in end of year activities. Next
week we start with our end of year celebrations with our very first Music Spectacular. This is a
celebration of a year’s work in our exciting music program. All of our music students from Year 3
to 7 will be performing at the Spectacular with a grand finale of all students. It promises to be a
wonderful night. Please check out the diary dates to see what end of year events you or your child
may be involved in.
Fundraising
The Woodville community has a long history of
giving generously. In previous years we have
given to World Vision through the 40 Hour
Famine and to St Vincent DePaul through the
CEO Sleep-out. This year we participated in
Jump Rope for Heart for the Heart Foundation.
$2747.20 was raised. Seven children were
awarded Mystery Prizes for their fantastic individual efforts. Charlise Culf raised $550 and Clare
Shimeld $200. We also participated in Canteen Bandanna Day. We sold 210 raising $840 for
CanTeen – The Australian Organisation for Young People Living with Cancer.
Quiz Night
Our school quiz night was held last Friday. 70 enthusiastic competitors battled it out over six
rounds of questions and several novelty rounds. When all the counting was done, the Mad
Hatters (pictured) had won and they took home wine and
chocolates as their first prize.
The final fundraising total was $1300, which was made up
of ticket sales, raffles and games, and auction sales. The
money will go towards buying tablet computers for next
year.
The Governing Council wishes to thank all of the local businesses and school community members
who generously donated prizes for the evening. It would also like to thank Andy Constantinides
who put together the questions and games and sought out many of the donations.
Staffing
We have nearly completed our staffing for 2015. Leaving us are Zina Kenny, who is retiring,
Urszula Kudra, who is transferring to Nailsworth Primary and Alex Lovegrove who has won a
position at Mawson Lakes School.
We welcome Olivia O’Halloran who joins us in the Early Years from Streaky Bay Area School.
We are also delighted to announce that Irene Lynch has won the position of Student Counsellor
for a further twelve months.
We expect to retain all other staff members, both teaching and support staff. We will be making a
further appointment in the Early Years at the end of the year.
Many of you will also be interested to learn that our longest serving staff member, Carol Day, has
been on the sick list. Carol is resting at home after a serious operation. She is expected to make a
full recovery but we don’t expect her back until next year. We have sent Carol our best wishes and
look forward to her returning to us in 2015.
Graeme Charlton – Principal
Zina Kenny
Zina is retiring from teaching at the end of the year. She has been an Early Years teacher for 37
years. Many hundreds of children have had the benefit of Zina’s care and professionalism in
that time, including about 200 at Woodville. There are many, many children who can thank Zina
for teaching them skills they have used for their whole lives!
Zina has seen many changes in education over that time. She began her career in an openplanned Early Year school in the eastern region, where there were no walls between classes.
She soon learnt to adapt her teaching skills in co-operative team teaching situations.
During her career she has worked at Paralowie School, Para Hills Junior Primary, Redwood Park
Primary and Ridgehaven Primary. For the last seven years she has been at Woodville.
Zina has always had an interest in multi-culturalism and loves working with children from a
variety of cultures. Her professional interests include Literacy, Science and the Arts.
When Zina retires she will renew her love of gardens, crafts and travel. And she would like to
take up new hobbies of photography and Drawing.

The Challenge is successful because we have many children who love reading and love books. This is

encouraging the readers, managing the awards and everything else!
From Miss Irene - Student Counsellor News
From the Student Action Team
Message from The Senior Student Action Team……………….
This year the Student Action Team have been working hard to raise money for several charities. We chose to support the CANTEEN
charity-young children living with cancer. We sold Bandannas at school and raised a total of $840. We then chose to support World
Vision by sponsoring an eight year old girl from Africa, Senegal called Aminata Sane. We hope to follow the progress that she makes
with our yearly donations. To fundraise for World Vision we held an ice cream and ice block day. All the students enjoyed buying
these items to sponsor the young girl. To add to our fundraising Mr Nicholls’ class held a cup cake day which was very successful.
The end of term 3 saw all the representatives of the Student Action Teams participate in various
roles in the very successful “Woodville’s Got Talent”. This term we had two representatives attend
a staff meeting where they put forward some very strong ideas to hold a trial for three weeks
where junior classes work together with senior classes as buddies. We are hoping for some very
positive feedback so that it can be a regular whole school activity in 2015.
A future project that we are also trialling for the next three weeks will be to give younger students
another option besides staff members to seek support for small issues such as, being lost, having a
fight with a friend, needing a friend to talk to or just having someone they can chat to in the yard.
These SAT members will be identified in the yard by the badges that they will be wearing.
